Chiming in after reading the last days threads, Romans title reign should have ended at Clash at the Castle. Drew has everything you need in a main event guy and still deserves that title win in front of crowds.

I'm no fan of Cody, but they kind of booked themselves into an corner with this stupid Roman title reign. Sami is not a win the title in the main event of WM guy, at least not to end this reign. Cody has at least 10 more years to go in an upper midcard/title scene and can do all the stupid promo work that being the champ apparently requires. I don't think Cody will be a knock off Roman and be champ for a year champion, he'll defend and likely lose one of the belts in a few months and likely drop the other title before next RR.

Had so many dudes not had to be booked to lose to Roman like Drew, KO and so many others before we'd have an epic main event scene, but Vince wanting that fucking Dwayne/Roman match that never needed a belt kept us in title hell, that and booking Roman/Brock as title/title for no reason.

Cody left a company where any logical booker wouldn't have considered him a top 10 main event guy to a company where he shouldn't be a top 10 guy but will be treated like one, so I guess good for him? He'll always be "midcard Cody, king of the B wrestling match" to me.

Oh I forgot about Drew at Clash. Damn shame he didn’t win. That crowd was rocking and I for one was on edge of seat. And now Vince is back in there somewhere. So yeah. Fun times.

Yeah, Drew should have been it at Clash at the Castle. Anyway if it wasn't him they should have been building up somebody to be the next Cena/Rock level guy but they haven't been doing that have they? (I may like Cody but he's definitely not that guy and you don't do that for a guy in his mid thirties.)

Don't care about Cody at all. Good for him if they give him the belt.

For whatever odd reason, I like LA Knight a lot, love his promos. And I hope whatever crap programme he was involved in with Wyatt is over.
Also happy to see Boogz back.

Is there anyone who is excited for Roman v. Cody at WM?

If you read this thread you can tell I am not excited at all. But maybe I'm the outlier on this. Genuinely curious.
Medium excited. So, my intro to Cody was Wrestlemania. I had never seen him or Seth Rollins. I thought the intro material with Rollins going to McMahon looking for a Wrestlemania slot was mildy amusing. I thought Cody's entrance had a lot of excitement to it and people seemed to be marking out. It took me a few minutes to figure out it was Cody Rhodes. I assumed I was looking at the child of Dustin Rhodes... and pieced together that he was in fact the brother, and learned a bit about AEW after the fact. It was probably the standout match from WM for me. I initially only watched to see what the hell Pat McAfee was doing in a wrestling ring.

I really enjoyed his stuff with Seth Rollins, though I rapidly became more of a Rollins than Cody fan. But I still liked Cody, and thought the Hell in a Cell thing with the torn pec was great. Not really an indictment of Rhodes at all. I'm always attracted to the heels. The fact that Cody is as corny as he is and I somehow still like him should be considered a win.

I think the Royal Rumble was weirdly booked. We knew Cody was coming back, yet he was in at 30, so there was no surprise. The way the match went once Cody was in was just okay for me. I actually enjoyed the Rumble more before Cody came in. It's weird, it's entirely possible that the only Rumble I'd ever seen previously was the original. The latest one I would have seen would have been 1992.

IMHO Logan Paul should have won, and then win at Wrestlemania clean. Though I'm totally on board with Drew winning at Clash of the Castle. Even though I don't like Drew at all. But the atmosphere was just there. It should have happened.

In recent times I've seen a couple of AEW Battle Royals... there was one that was during a show buy-in which was fairly entertaining. I don't recall if it was on the early AEW timeline or from the time where I started watching live. Probably early just because there were a bunch of weirdos in it that I haven't seen a lot of. But it was fun. The one where MJF in a mask won with his crew of jobber goons clearing the field for him... and uhh.. did he have to climb a ladder or something? To get a poker chip? Whatever the hell that one is was pretty lame TBH.

And I also somewhat recently watched World War 3 1995... as I'm pretty sure I documented a few months ago in this very thread. So like... I get that people might be underwhelmed by Royal Rumble 2023 given a history of watching all the Royal Rumbles... maybe it's not exciting. But compared to WW3 1995, it's fucking amazing.

Women's Royal Rumble I just couldn't pay attention. Like, I knew it would end with Rhea eliminating Liv before it started

Don't care about Cody at all. Good for him if they give him the belt.

For whatever odd reason, I like LA Knight a lot, love his promos. And I hope whatever crap programme he was involved in with Wyatt is over.

LA Knight is great. The Max DuPREE thing was idiotic. There's not much to the LA Knight gimmick, he just acts like an LA asshole, and struts out to some 90s hip hop shit and it just works. I'm a little confused why the rest of the DuPREE thing still seems to exist.

Anyway so long as I am managing to write another wall of text, I'll just throw in that when you factor in the Sami stuff and everything else, overall WWE has been solid.

AEW this week was kind of floundering but the main even with Darby Allin and Samoa Joe (again) was the best thing either promotion has done.

Fuck Roman and the Rock, Samoa Joe should be Tribal Chief :messenger_tears_of_joy:

Heck yeah that dude can cut a promo. I'd like to see him moved way up the mid card to see how he does in big spots.

Wow, I didn't know MLW has a new show starting this week on Reelz. Apparently it's on Tuesday so I guess I'll watch it on Wednesday when I watch Championship Wrestling.(So that will give me 2 hours of wrestling on Wednesday instead of 1) Actually I also didn't know they've had a show on PWTV which is a streaming service that I think I get on my LG TV. (It's apparently on Roku as well.)

Just saw lacy von Eric in some interview. Still looks great. I wonder why WWE never picked up on her. They were still pushing talentless models at the time so she would have fit right in.

Given everything that happened in the Von Erich with so many of them I wouldn't blame any promoter from staying away from everybody in the family. (Because you'd just wonder if there'd be yet another Von Erich tragedy.)

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?
Interesting choice to have Roman come out first, champions usually come out second.

They're doing a good job capitalizing on the Samy hype with the local crowd.

This is the best WWE has been in fucking years..

The in ring stuff is so fucking good, and the story telling has been TOP NOTCH.

There have been a few duds along the way..(AJ/Gallows/Anderson have been miss managed just as an example)
But HHH laid the foundation to a very healthy "Federation" for years to come. There are so many "credible" stars in the roster right now along with multiple factions scattered around WWE. Feels like a setup to some really fun stuff in the future.

If you ask me..

2024 is the year of IMPERIUM!!!! Gunther is the heel of the future :)

AJs injury killed ANY momentum they could have built. But changing Mias name to Michim didn't help, and as much as I don't hate the Good Brothers...I just really don't care about them as a team. I think there is a world where Karl Anderson could be a credible midcard heel if AJ gets elevated back into the title scene when he comes back instead of just being a group to put over Judgement Day.

Gunther is great, I worry about where he goes after Mania as I expect Sheamus to finally get the IC title in some sort of multiman match at Mania and we see how Gunther evolves after losing the belt.

Sucks cause Anderson is so crisp with his moves in the ring.. Arguably one of the best looking spinebusters since Double AA.

With HHH at the helm I am not worried about Gunther. He is high as fuck on him, the character and Imperium as a whole.

Tangentially related. The turnout for the xfl seems pretty dire. A few games looks like they maybe had a few thousand at most. Do they expect this work? Third time's the charm?

They think they can make money. But who knows. The arena league was really the only interesting alternative I ever saw. People get excited for 20 weeks of football. I think it is hard to get them ready for a new league almost immediately after one league ends.

Entertaining show for the most part. Hoping this isn't Zayn's last real shot.

HHH should have called an audible and dropped the Cody v. Roman WM main event plans. For everyone who disagrees with me that he is a boring mid card talent from AEW now, I present to you Exhibit A. And Exhibit A is this 140 page thread getting no updates in over 6 days despite being in the final run up to WrestleMania. That's how boring Cody and his stupid tattoo is.

Also, after a couple more weeks of giving him a chance, I'm all in on LA Knight. Yeah!

And Kevin Owen's ability to remember the past couple days / weeks / months is one of the best angles in wrestling.

And Bobby Lashley needs MVP and the Hurt Business back. Like right away, yesterday even. He's a great wrestler, but the mic skills haven't gotten great and aren't gonna get better. Give this man a manager and he could easily be the monster heel that everyone chases.

Finally, Tony Khan needs to fire himself and hire Bischoff or Vince Russo. Bad spectacle booking would be much better than bad indie wrestling booking. Said it and not sorry.

The guy that beats Roman should have been setup to be the next Cena/Rock/Austin. But like you say Cody isn't it and it's sad the way the WWE has been run the past 5 years that they mostly tried to prevent that from happening. (And I like Cody and think he should have gotten a title run years ago. He's at the Dolph Ziggler level.)

But haven't you heard? He's booker of the year. (Just go on 411 mania. They love AEW no matter how bad the show is.)

I guess nobody has much to say about the AEW ppv. I didn't watch because I was at a social even t with friends. I did see the results and they aligned with what I would have predicted. I would like to check out a recap or something but I am not looking hard for it.

Didn't even think to watch because of the price in relation to AEW's overall product. As much as I like MJF and a couple other acts, they are not worth $50 PPV's when Peacock is $5 a month.

That said, the results / reports have me more interested in Dynamite this week than usual.

Edit - the second reason I won't be buying AEW PPV's is that they immediately stripped the top belt and trios belts after each were won in a PPV.

I've just finished watching it. I thought it was one of the best PPV's from AEW ever. Mox vs Hangman was absolutely savage I loved it. Main event had me on the edge of my seat extremely sports entertained. Trios match delivered with both sides looking incredible. Brody especially came out of it looking like a boss fight character.

I wasn't expecting to love the main event as much as I did since I wasn't too invested in the build. AEW weekly TV has bored me for a while and been a tad inconsistent, but this PPV was definitely worth my time.

I wasn't exactly excited by the prospect of the 60 minute ironman match but it was so good. Danielson is incredible.

I downloaded after the fact and half-paid attention. Thought the main event was great, the rest was pretty okay. I'm even starting to like the Ass Boys a little bit. But yeah the pricing is wack.

He is definitely doing a roided Andy Kaufman crossed with CM Punk arrogance. But he wasn't shitting on the company can't fault the guy. He is talking about how good he is and sharing pickles
I really hope he sticks with not doing that for at least a while. I'm a huge MJF fan, and I know his job is to make everyone boo him even including people like me. But those promos make me want to change the channel instead of boo. The company itself just isn't there yet. You need a longer / better history before I'm better than this company draws heat instead of reminding people why the company isn't that great yet.

Cena performed live murder on TV.
He was brutal wasn't he? Admittedly if they really wanted Theory to take him down a few pegs he could have pointed out how big of a phony he is and bring up that he grovels and apologizes in Mandarin Chinese. (But then again the WWE probably wants to make in roads into China and pissing off Beijing is a no no.) You know, the all American boy except when he kowtows to another country in their own language. Theory could have said he was surprised Cena didn't offer to lick their shoes clean.

What's everyone's guesses on Rey and Dominic?

A) Rey wins
B) Dom cheats to win
C) Dom wins clean.

I'm torn on this one. Dom cheating to win would extend the feud. But we are talking a father vs son match at Wrestlemania. I'm going on a limb and saying Dom wins clean somehow, at Rey's urging behind the scenes.

I'm not following it closely but I assume Dominick wins. I figure Rey wants to put his son over in a major way and the Wrestlemania match is going to mean more than a rematch at Backlash or whatever.
