Anything i can do with an xbox controller on pc to fix this? Like changing settings and shit?

Nope, it has to be fixed via patch - same as Resident evil 8 on the xbox which had similar kind of problems (i.e : couldn't aim properly/aiming was restrained to a square-like aiming box until it got fixed)

Another remake......im NOT mad at. Love Resi games and the demo was fire, brought back some pleasant memories man, they did a good job with touching up the graphics.

Ran through the demo probably 10+ times on PS5 now. In terms of additions and revisions, I really like it. The one thing I'm consistently having issues with is the way Leon moves. I've put about 70 hours into RE2 Remake and I'm surprised that a way more Action-focused game feels like a less responsive version of that. I've absolutely tinkered with the aim sensitivity and all that but I think it's more in the extreme lethargy Leon seems to suffer from when not in full sprint. When I do sprint, I feel like I'm controlling a swaying unwieldy sack of potatoes rather than a dude who does lighting-fast roundhouse kicks and suplexes a minute later.

That being said, I've obviously still played the demo a ton so I'm not shitting on the game, it's still a lot of fun. Just with Leon not feeling like a geriatric smoker wearing two left shoes, this'd be close to some 10/10 shit for me

I agree, the walking feels much less responsive due to Leon's steps and his swaying. It feels like each sway is momentarily causing a delay in control.

Resident evil 2 remake is the absolute king, control wise and fov wise.

Dam, I played the demo and I just started fucking shit up and then the town bells starting ringing after a minute and the game ended... How do I avoid the demo from ending so I have more time?

Man, glad that code was discovered. Had only got it 3 times so was finally able to beat it (had only killed Salvador on my 3rd attempt) last night before I went to bed. To my surprise got it first try.

Also don't do what I did, there is little point to even going for the 15 kills to end the village sequence early on this difficulty. Not only do enemies have more health, but they're also much more likely to transform on "death" too. After killing Super Salvador, just save your remaining ammo for survival, or else you'll probably just run around pega aiming with a pistol for 5 minutes.

Well played dude! Seeing you pull this off was very thrilling. I remember being totally overwhelmed by this section on PS2, I gave up after attempting to kill all enemies. But after seeing a yt video, i was able to stay alive till the bell.

Agree, old Re4 feels better in general (specially about what u said), only great thing here is the graphics...I don't care much about this, so i'll wait for a sale...

use a third party program to add a negative deadzone to your stick.

I know DS4windows can do that, but that's a program for Dualshock 4/Dualsense and Switch Pro controllers.

I am not sure, but maybe Steam's controller settings allow negative deadzones.
I never looked into it.

try adding a 20% negative deadzone or something, and that should be ok.
depending on your controller adjust it +/- 4% from that if it feels off.

a negative deadzone basically changes your stick input in a way where even a small movement will instantly send a higher input than normal.
so if you have a 20% negative deadzone your controller will instantly at least send a 20% input as soon as you move the stick.

one thing you'll not be able to change as easily is the deadzone shape, because the game has a weird, square deadzone.
and the reaction curve is also more or less set in stone.

ALTERNATIVELY, you could emulate a mouse. but that only works if the game allows simultaneous Mouse and controller inputs. some games don't allow that and will give you control issues if they detect both at once.

you could use a default controller layout, and simply change the input of the right stick to a mouse in the Steam controller settings.
this will give you 100% control over what your deadzone is, what your reaction curve looks like, and how fast it is.

The weighty feel took a bit to get used to but after a while it was a breeze. I don't really get the complaints, it's just an adjustment coming from OG RE4 where everything feels weightless and even more arcade like. This isn't RDR2 levels of slow, it's just more grounded than the original RE4.

In fact, upon returning to the OG RE4 I found the controls to be far more awkward with the tank feeling turning compared to RE4R. I honestly love the weighty feel of the remake because it gives everything way more impact.

My only real issue is the doors not being able to be shot through like in the original game. It was always a fun little element. Luckily the game makes up for that in a variety of ways - like limbs being blown off, environment destruction, and the excellent parry system that I now wish was in the OG game.

Can't wait for the full release.

Will this make DualSense work on older games? When I try my DualSense on some games that shit just flickers between controller and keyboard constantly.

that sounds like the game detects a mouse movement or something, not sure if DS4Windows would help there.

but yes it will help for old games

DS4windows is imo an essential program for people using Dualshock 4 or Dualsense controllers on PC.

because you can set different modes, you can change it so it works like an Xbox controller for example.

it does have presets for that as well so it's not hard to set up.
but if you go more in depth you can do what I did and use your Dualsense as 3 different inputs, a PS controller, an Xbox controller, and a mouse, by cycling through different modes.

be aware tho, that if you want to use your Dualsense as a Dualsense you have to turn the program off as it will get detected as a Dualshock 4 or Xbox controller and Dualsense features will not work while it's active

I liked the demo. But it just doesn't feel like Resi 4 to me. It feels great, do not get me wrong.
But imo, the Resi 2/3 Remake style doesn't fit 4's tone or gameplay.

I actually admit that RDR2 popped into my head immediately. Not that I'm saying this plays like RDR2 but there's a certain awkward gap between the ultra-slow and robotic default walk and the sprint. It's hard to explain but the best I can come up with is that the default walk feels too slow and oddly robotic in every situation and then the sprint feels too fast and imprecise indoors, yet weirdly slow outside. That's at least where my issues come from, the feeling of the movement just never feeling quite right nor comfortable. Even after 10+ runs, I feel like I worry about wrangling Leon more than the actual enemies. Leon feels unintuitive to me.

And to be clear, in no way did I expect, nor want, this to control or be OG RE4 exactly. It's 2023 that wasn't gonna happen and if I want that, I'll go play OG. In retrospect, Dead Space Remake nailed the fuck out of weighty-yet-tight-and-smooth character control imo. I've beaten that three times by now and I give it even more props seeing how hard it must be to nail that after playing RE4R. Granted, I think RE2R controlled better as well imo. I'm also not really nitpicky about controls honestly so I'm surprised myself how much RE4R is rubbing me the wrong way.

Also I'm not trying to convince you that it's shit or nothing lol, just my personal impressions and trying to explain in more detail what the issues/complaints may be.

I was excited to try this, but it plays pretty bad on PS4 (pro).
Resolution mode - less than 30 fps.
Performance - blurry as hell.
On top of that, the aiming just feels awful, probably the deadzone thing people talk about. I found myself missing pretty easy shots because I couldn't handle Leon's aiming at all.
I get that they made him not as responsive as typical shooters for the tension effect & some nod to the old tank controls, but yeah it's just not very fun for a modern game.

Gotta say - I just stumbled upon this program the other day and while I won't be using it for Re4, there are various games I've been using it with and what a difference! My old method was to play with a Ps2 controlled hooked through a USB passthrough and use something like Joy2key and rebind things, but with this? A lot of times it "just works" as Todd would say. Highly recommend this program if you're trying to use PS4 (and I guess 5) controller for anything.

ds4w op software u can even bind macros to touchpad and stuff , practically turn ur pc into a console when it comes to multitasking

u can assign macros to touchpad presses, touchpad swipes and so on. i can take steam screen shot, game bar screenshot, game bar recording and replay, turn afterburner overlay on and off and then some with touchpad macros

DS4W is great. I've been using it for years and like you said, most of the time...it just works. In PC gaming world, that's sheer insanity.

Anyone else thinking of not getting this after playing on console? Was really hyped but man, they fucked up the graphics on ps5 and the Xbox feels awful to play and has a worse framerate.

yeah I have mine set up so that I can control my PC with it while I play on my TV.

I have macros to cycle bewteen a PC mode, an Xbox mode and a PlayStation mode.

in PC mode the touchpad is my mouse, the Share button is left click and the mute button is right click.
with Home + Dpad directions/face buttons I bound multiple functions like Alt+F4, Win+P, Windows key, and Alt+Enter.

On the PS5 version, did you try turning off a bunch of the graphical options like chromatic aberration etc.? It looks a lot cleaner with those off imo. Give it a shot if you haven't yet, see if that improves it.

I dunno I played on Xbox and absolutely loved it - didn’t have any issues. Maybe I’m just not hardcore enough of a gamer to notice.

Side note: why are resident evil games so much better than other horror games? I tried playing the new dead space and it never gripped me like this or re 8. I never played them when they first came out

Love the demo BUT, as mentioned here, the controls feel off. Aiming feels needlessly difficult and controlling Leon is a chore. Feels like it's off by a split second but it's fairly poor. This must be what it feels like to play games via the cloud...

this will give you 100% control over what your deadzone is, what your reaction curve looks like, and how fast it is.

so Steam allows for a negative deadzone.

you have to go into the controller layout settings for RE4 (right click the game in your library
> manage > controller layout > Edit Layout > Joysticks > Right Joystick ⚙️ > Dead Zones > Type = Custom > Advanced Settings

in there you can set an Anti Deadzone, I set mine to 2100 and for my controller that's perfect. feels like a ~4% dead zone on my end then.
between 1900 and 2200 should be perfect
1000 seems to equal 10%.
the game from the video I've seen, seems to have a dead zone of ~25%, so a negative deadzone of 2000 would mean 5% is left.
I set mine to 2100 so the remaining deadzone should be 4%, and I like 0 to 4% for shooters.

EDIT: if you want more control over your aiming use the stick as a mouse. the game seems to work fine with mouse + controller inputs simultaniously.

to do that
> manage > controller layout > Edit Layout > Joysticks > Right Joystick Behavior > Joystick Mouse > ⚙️

for the Stick Response Curve I would use Extra Wide, or a custom curve of ~60, but many people prefer a more linear curve.

Dead Zone > Custom > Dead Zone Shaper > Circle
Dead Zone Inner > set it between 400 and 600 depending on your controller
Dead Zone Outer > 31100 to 31900

after that, go back and add a command to the Right stick click, and chose Right Stick Click, so that it functions like a normal R3 input
QuXGNQL.png

(to adjust the speed in-game from that point on you of course have to change the mouse sensitivity not the controller sensitivity ;) )

You’re not the first to mention this. I’ve also heard that Leon controls much smoother in the final game from someone on Series X. Great news if all true.

the PS5 version never had a deadzone issue tho. yes the deadzone on PS5 is still 10% (slightly more ~12%), but 10% isn't terrible, it is bad if you play competitive Apex, but not a SP shooter, and is not rarely the default for many games.

it was specifically the PC, and to an even more extreme extend the Xbox version, that have issues with that.
we are talking 25% and 35% deadzones repectively, which is absolutely mindboggling and a repeat of the deadzone issues of REmake 2... REmake 3 was made by a different team and didn't have the deadzone issue on Xbox. REmake 3 on Xbox had a similar deadzone to the REmake 4 Demo on PS5
