Resident Evil 4 Review thread

There is a completely different energy surrounding this game than the Last Of Us Part 1.

One is a complete remake of the entire game, changing mechincs, story, level design etc. The other is a visual upgrade to a game that already got a visual upgrade. It is not even remotely close to similar.

Does anyone know if the steelbook edition comes with a cardboard sleeve keeping it all together and cool or is the usual ugly throw in case not part of a bundle? Thanks

lol yep. Some people just act obtuse to stir shit. Ignore and move on.

One of the things I really wanted from TLOU Part 1 was the addition of game mechanics from TLOU2. Stuff like dodge, new melee mehcanics, prone and enemy designs. I LOVE the enemy designs in TLOU2. Those big brutes that charge you head-on, the dogs that can sniff you out, the ranged rifle weilding bitches who can one shot you on the higher difficulties, and those bloaters who go through walls are what made that game feel like a true sequel to TLOU. I was convinced that the bloater fight in the high school gymnasium would have the bloater break through walls and have him chase you around the high school going from classroom to classroom. But nope, they couldnt be bothered to bring over that tech from TLOU2 even though the entire game is built on the TLOU2 engine.

I dont even like RE4 remake that much, but I appreciate that they tried to do something different.

Any reviews from people who didn't play the original? I need a take from someone without bias going in.

You're trying too hard.
So let me get this straight...

It's OK to make fun of Skyrim for being re-released.

It's OK to make fun of Last Of Us for being re-released.

But mentioning RE4 being re-released 11+ times, is trying to hard.

Got it.

Youtube recommended me a comparison video of RE4 and TLOU Part 1. Mostly focused on minutia details but what stood out immediately was just how much better RE4 looked in comparison. Not a generational difference, but just a better looking game overall when put side by side like this.

I remember TLOU2 looking way better than RE2 and RE3 but its obvious that Capcom has continued to improve their graphics since 2020 with Village looking better than RE3 and now RE4 looking even better.

Both are last gen games but its clear that TLOU Part 1 is basically a game from 2020. Great looking but still, lagging behind the more recent games this gen.

I don't believe for a second that re4 remake has better microdetails and animations than tlou remake.

Graphic? sure, tlou remake looks like tlou2 in 4k.

I'm gonna watch the video later.

It's okay to make fun of all of them. The conclusion you're trying to make doesn't actually hold any water. So, yes, you're still trying too hard.

The whole "different energy" conclusion. There's a different energy for extremely obvious reasons.
There is 100% a different energy for this. Even through it LITERALLY gets re-released for EVERY GENERATION since it was made. The only game that has been re-released more is Skyrim.

The funny thing is I'm buying it, mainly for the VR version and I dont have a problem with remakes, but I also don't move goalposts whenever it's convenient like this place seems to.

In that gif, Joel's face looks twice as detailed as Leon's. Leon's face in gameplay looks so bad.

If you want to equate this remake with 11 iterations of the original game, then I can't help you here. If Capcom releases this remake 11 times and we see it again on the PS12 and Xbox Series Infinite, then you can come back and tell me I was wrong.

The final game must be completely different from the clunky demo to earn so much 10/10's

Or Capcom really invested in the game's "marketing", lol

Are people seriously getting angry about why this got good score? Regardless what it score it got if you personally think its not worth it then dont buy it? I dont get the anger here.

More importantly original RE4 exist EVERYWHERE, it hasn't disappeared, just go play that.

Standards in 2023 are not the same as standards in 2005. These scores shouldn't be downplayed, I personally expected high 80s at most so I'd actually say its exceeding many people's expectations.

Almost done with Dead Space on Series X.

Was going to wait to play this because I wasn’t sure I’d want to do horror remakes back to back, but nah, I’m in day one now.

Can’t wait!

You really don’t see the difference between the last of us remake and this? On a basic level?

Maybe it’s cus I’m watching on phone but it seems like they’re just different styles? Lou part 1 looks better in some ways to me - while re4 looks better in others

Really wish they put this much effort in RE3.
I played (and adored) RE1 and 2 in the PS1 days but for whatever reason skipped RE3. Probably due to being a poor uni student. Played RE3 remake last year and loved it, but then I can’t compare it to the original. It was quite short though, but what was there was great I thought.

RE3 Remake is not a bad game but they cut A LOT of stuff that made original RE3 interesting in the first place.
