Sharing a piece of fanart from someone in her community as part of an outro to her video is not what defines her opinion on a video game.

Get a grip man.
I think you should probably watch that video again. But if that's what you wanna believe. See you a day or two after the 24th. We'll see how RE4 is then.

Some folks here are really attached to metacritic score.

You gonna miss a lot of good games with that obsession of posting metascore pictures.

Is a behavior of fanboys I quite dislike. They not only keep posting Metacritic screenshots, but also edit the pictures to hide the user score.

That's completely fine my man, if the game turns out to be a shitshow when I play it I'll be honest as always. And as long as your criticisms of the game once you've played it are valid, I'll of course take them into account and give you a fair debate on them.

I hope you enjoy the game and are surprised by it's quality as I'd hate for anyone to spend their hard earned cash on something they'll hate.

Also I'm buying this game day one even if I am shitting on it cuz if I don't you'll get "DID YOU EVEN PLAY THE GAME? XD" Gotta take the L and finish it to get my opinion validated, if it's good it's good if not? Wouldn't be the first time I've paid full price for a not great game.

You being a paladin for this game is kinda weird though also if you wanna take that stance.

I would say him being enthusiastic for the game is not even nearly as weird as the prime motivation for you buying the game is to have you opinion validated when you inevitably shit on it. Not to mention your negative attitude and attempts to troll on this thread.

I think there's better things to spend your $60 on if that's your attitude going into RE4R.

I'd rather be cynical and be proven wrong than hyped and be destroyed. Also trolling? I don't think so, if that's what is considered trolling on the internet these days we're at an all time low.

Gotta play the game to have the knowledge to prop it up or tear it down. Simple as.

So much for better than the original.
Apologies for not buying into the hype of the Malibu Stacey with a new hat version of RE4.

You're gonna miss a lot of good games because you're wasting time playing games that a hundred reviewers told you wasn't very good just because you have to "decide for yourself".

And you know user scores are pointless. They are all 0s or 10s based off agendas that almost have nothing to do with the actual quality of the fame they may or may not have played.

I find it very strange that a few people in this thread are making it their life's mission to go after this remake with everything in their power and use it as their main argument point as to why the game industry is in a bad place.

I mean you're telling me that out of all the terrible shit that goes on in this industry, the biggest problem right now is a very faithful, high effort remake that has been unanimously praised and even longtime fans who were skeptical of a remake like TheSphereHunter have praised the game as an IMPROVEMENT over the original game.

Just seems strange and all you're doing is showing your true colours of the fact that you were always gonna throw dirt on this game regardless of the outcome.
"Paid shills say a game is great! If you diseagree you're a hater!"

:messenger_tears_of_joy:

I love it when they say it's a 'soulless cash-grab' when you absolutely see how much care and love they put in the game and to the little details. Leon's handgun has 'Kendo' written on it. You don't do that when your game has no 'soul'.
Yeah, the fact that something as basic looking like garbage wasn't addressed until fans complained really shows the care and attention the game has had put into it :messenger_tears_of_joy:

I literally don't know why they do it. If RE4 was my favorite game I would be ECSTATIC to see it becoming prettier, more tense, with more options, more everything. I wouldn't be opposed to it at every second, every moment, nor would I insult its existence at every chance I get. Why are you opposed to better graphics? Better animations? Better character design? Better sound? Better gameplay? Better characterization? Why are you content with X/10 when you can have X+5/10? Why?
If RE4 was your favorite you'd know the changes made are for the worse. Generic modern additions like parrying, item durability, stealth, one hit takedowns, etc... A generic shooter is what this is. Better graphics? They're more detailed but for some reason every material is ultra shiny. A throwback to the days of Perfect Dark Zero. Better animation? Yeah, I'll give you that. Better character design? Of course, just look at grandma Salazar. Better sound? Sure, if you like all guns to sound like thumps. Better gameplay? With all that input lag? Better characterization? Leon being stuckup asshole, Luis being an annoying meth-addict looking sidekick that Leon despises, Ada being boring as fuck, etc... Yeah, all better for sure. And of course, removed sections from the original. Wow, so much better.

I can fully accept you saying that the original holds up even today. I can accept it's still playable and enjoyable. Why can't you accept your favorite game in an even better version? Why are you so opposed to it being improved? Why do you NOT want it to be even better?
We love the HD Project.

Even if you think the remake may not look as good as other modern games (which I disagree, but it's your opinion), how can you think it doesn't look better than the original at least? Why this religious denial? Why do you refuse to accept that tank controls were made for a fixed camera gameplay (due to the constant camera angle changes) and they don't work as well in a shoulder-view shooter?
I mean, if I love the game, WHY on Earth wouldn't I want it to be even better? It's literally insane to me.

It looks worse overall for making stupid visual decisions like ultra-shiny clean materials that don't even have SSR applied on them and obnoxiously strong PS2-level bloom. Leon looking like a caveman during gameplay isn't an improvement either.

The controls were great in the original, perfectly matched with the design of the game. Not every game has to be a twitch shooter, after all :messenger_winking:

EDIT:
Accidentally posted before finishing the reply. Whoops.

I love Demon's Souls and Dead Space. So their remakes improved upon the original in every way imaginable and now they're even BETTER games for me.

Honestly, I don't get it. I mean, sure, you do you, but ... I don't get it. At all.
The Demon's Souls remake shits on the original games lore:

The Dead Space remake:

Hey, if you love grannies good for you man...

You're quite clearly a very sad individual to the point where you're making unfairly piling on a game you HAVEN'T PLAYED your entire personality.

Never had to ignore anyone but it's quite clear you're only looking to get bites from people who are innocently excited for a good looking game. All your points have been comically bad and you seem to be more interested in landing comical zingers rather than actually back your arguments with any points of substance.

Have a good day bud and I hope you enjoy letting this remake and it's fans continue to live rent free in your head.

Games media is an enemy of the people.

They stump for big publishers stale games with pretty graphics at the expense of smaller, significantly more interesting titles.

Who wants to organize a protest...say January 6 2024 at IGN offices...and take games criticism back from the elites? I'll be wearing a hat with horns.

Woa, I had a feeling the Blue Point art direction had lost Miyazakian flair but now I can see why some would consider it butchered in the remake.
The Dead Space remake:

Hey, if you love grannies good for you man...

I had to refund the game because of some bug that makes the game think I'm holding aim button all the time(can't run, stomp). May have dodged a bullet thanks to that.

Hope it will be fixed in the future by the time it's 50% discounted. :messenger_winking_tongue:

I’m guessing your idea of “more interesting titles” are GaaS games and battle royals.

If you read up a few posts brother you'll see I'm not saying that in the slightest and I simply mentioned her as an example, I could have named any critic who was a big fan of the original and loved the remake even more.

Cant believe we are back at crying about the changes of Dead Space remake (which is an incredible game). Nevermind that the character in question is meant to be around 40 and looks considerable older in dead space 2, if anything they just brought her more in line to where the original devs took the series after.

To stay in topic, I can barely wait for this game, fans of the genre are eating good lately.

for some reason I thought Lou part 1 was kinda a rush job and not done by like the core naughty dog team fully? That’s why I didn’t consider it to be a real next gen naughty dog game debut
Yeah, it feels like they didn’t take their time to give it more improvements because they wanted it out along the TV series (which may have been the smart choice financially tho).

TLOU is really a month late for Steam. Dropping Feb 28 gives extra show tie in and dodges this juggernaut. Don't know which way I'm gonna go. Never played TLOU, haven't played RE4 since the Cube. Leaning RE4 after the demo.

There's nothing to refute when one's opinion does not follow the basic rules of reason. When you claim that the game looks like garbage, there's no debate to be had. You've already lost due to hyperbolic statements which make you look insincere or flat out ignorant.

It was the same crap with the Demon's Souls remake where people claimed it looked worse than the original.

Might as well posted you believe that pigs can fly.

What can they refute? The reviews are pretty great, but you automatically say they must be paid shills.

They’re not wrong. You just decided the game was trash a long time ago. Definitely welcome to think so. But this essay writing and thinking that all great reviews are paid is beyond embarrassing. The fact that you’re even doubling down on it in here borders on odd behaviour.

I want to get this, but I feel like I might be playing it wrong. Tried the demo and is the game expecting you to fight off so many zombies at once, moving so slow? Got to the end of the demo but only cause I kept running away.

Good question

I didn’t know where to run to, and I couldn’t take em all down. I knew there had to be a specific door to run to, but never found it

So is that it? There’s only one way/one door?

Sprinting is a little weird I agree, but assuming you talk about the village part of the demo, you're meant to go into houses, use barricades, pick up the shotgun, loot around for ammo/stuff you can use for crowd control.

after playing RE2 and 3 again just now... it's crazy just howmuch worse the RE4 demo feels to play.
Leon feels unresponsive, the animations give worse visual feedback, the aiming is worse on controller even on PS5 where it's "the best"... I am confused about what happened here.

imo this, judging by the demo, is the worst playing third person RE

Yeah I don’t blame them at all. I just don’t think we’ve seen what they’re actually capable of delivering this gen at all yet

Man I really can’t wait for this I fucking loved the demo. Hearing it’s better than re8 has just put me through the roof with hype. Honestly very glad I’m not in this negative mindset I’m seeing on here

Any word on ps5 version compared to demo? What was sent out to reviewers?
I've been debating where to get this and dead space. I know this looks good on pc but crashes.
And dead space stuters on pc

You’re still going on about game reviewers being paid shills? I think you’re at the wrong place, /v/ is over there. I gave you examples yesterday of hyped up AAA games that didn’t review well, but you’d rather continue looking like the class clown on here. For what? For a video game which for some reason you have some stake in seeing it fail?

It ain’t gonna fail. It’s critically acclaimed, most people who played the demo are excited, and it’s guaranteed to sell incredibly well. So now you’re trying to rain on people’s excitement, because that’s all you’ve got left. A grown ass man acting like a troll on a video game forum.

You’re so cool dude.

Damn. Game looks legit amazing on PC with RT and all the bells and whistles turned on, and mouse aiming has me ditching my plans to buy the console version.

Very much looking forward to Friday….stranger.

you're playing it just fine. that village sequence? the game is basically expecting you to stay alive for 5 minutes. running away's a great way of dealing with it...

I'm finishing up 3 tomorrow and into next week, so I'll see how I get on with 4 as I've got used to the controls in the demo now. Fingers crossed it's not too bad for the main game.

it just feels so damn sluggish. Leon moves like he's a 60 year old trying to keep up and barely being able to do so -_-
the aiming is also so much worse, even on PS5, compared to 2 and 3. I really wonder what they did to get to that state.

at least on PC you can circumvent that latter part with a mouse.

That was my impression from the demo. Literally had to turn the demo off and fire up the original on my PS5 (PS4 version) to directly compare and see if I was crazy. Did not feel good at all, but sometimes it just takes a while for things to click. When I fired up the original, it was instantly much sharper on movement and aiming. Snappier.

I'll still definitely be picking this up at some point when I have time to play it. You don't get numerous 10/10s for nothing. There's got to be some kind of major success stories throughout the game in terms of how they interpreted it.

But yeah, it was feeling much worse than 4, 5,and 6 when I played the demo. 6 is still light years ahead of most TPS games in terms of the options available to the player.

The levels are a lot more readable and clear in the original version of part 4. It becomes a lot more obvious that your main defense in the village section is environmental interaction points. In the new one, I'm not surprised if new players just can't see most of it in the dark with hyper detail textures and it not being clear what you can interact with. The original is crystal clear.
  • Hop over fences.
  • Hop into or out of windows.
  • Shoot the lamp on the ceiling in the barn.
  • Barricade doors with furniture like a zombie movie.
I'd bet money that new players didn't catch half of it.

it also does a terrible job of communicating that you can parry.
if you're about to get hit with the chainsaw you get a button promt to parry... but you can parry every punch/slash from enemies, even tho they do not give you a button promt.
this simple issue basically communicates to the player "hey look, press this button when it pops up!" and the player would rightfully believe that it is only a thing IF IT POPS UP...

of course over time you would maybe eventually find it out by yourself, but it's just not well handled imo.

another issue I had in the demo is inconsistencies. sometimes if a villager tries to grab you you can crouch and dodge that... but other times they will still just grab you anyway.
this isn't helped by how overly "smoothed" over the animations for attacks are. this was already an issue in RE3 for your dodge timing, and is an issue here as well again.
animations are more "realistic" and therefore less easy to read and react to.

readability is really all over the place... but thank god barrels are marked yellow lol, that was the important thing to make stand out of course!

Yeah, that is true. I played the demo 3x and really only figured out the parry stuff on the 3rd run. I'm still expecting the game to deliver, but I do think there's going to be elements I 100% prefer in the original still.
