Stupid Things You Thought Were True As A Kid

Nobody_Important

“Aww, it’s so...average,” she said to him in a cold brick of passion
I did not know that having my overhead light on in my car was not illegal until I was 28yrs old and was pulled over in Arkansas. When the hick officer asked me if I knew why he had pulled me over I told him it was because I had my overhead light on and he laughed and said "That is an old momma's tale son. You were doing 85 in a 70." For fucking YEARS my mom and my grandparents told me that having the overhead light on while driving was illegal. It wasn't until I was pulled over and mentioned it that I knew better.

Luckily I was respectful enough and made him laugh so I was able to get off with a warning once I told him I was just trying to get back to Texas after a trip.

I thought that everyone in church was aware that those were only stories with a moral, not real history.

Still, unironically, have lots of trouble processing that some people really believe that shit.
For me it was the opposite; as a child I thought the stories of the Bible were made up.

In high school I got really deep into history, eventually becoming a history teacher/professor. It was through my love of history and archeology that I realized that a good portion of the Bible, especially the New Testament, can be proven to be historically accurate.

I'm not talking about then, I'm talking about now.
Why are you swallowing gum as (presumably) an adult?
im actually not doing it now as a adult because i didnt like the felling and the amount of gum i eat all the time to keep my mouth fresh
i instead have taken my mothers advice and spit instead of swallowing

I thought that if you didn't wait 30 min after eating before going swimming there was a chance you'd actually get really sick and need to go to the ER.

In my mind the combination of being submerged in water + your stomach working would somehow give you something similar to a heart attack

omg i was terrified to eat when going swimming. my dad would always say i'd cramp up so i imagined myself jumping in the pool and curling up into a ball and dropping to the bottom of the pool and dying :messenger_tears_of_joy:

That “prehistoric” was just a fancy name, but it means “before people told each other the history of their people, therefore we don’t know that much about them”.

Oh and that people that love each other stay together forever.

Korean fan death myth.

I lived over in Korea for a while, and I want to tell you how strange it was to hear intelligent, kind, thoughtful people I knew say that they believed this myth is true.

Maybe they mention this in the video, but it's likely that this myth was started as a way for families to avoid publicizing the true cause of someone's death: alcohol poisoning. Pretty believable origin, if you ask me.
