Xbox has paid over $4 billion for 3,000 id@xbox games since over the last 10 years.

What they aren't telling you is that I MA3D A GAM3 W1TH Z0MB1ES 1N IT!!!1 is responsible for $3.8 billion of that.
XBLIG is part of it going by that huge number.

That game was awesome fun for $1. So were the many other games I bought, including twin stick shooters, zombie estate and ZP2kx. Lots of excellent $1-5 games better than $10-15 XBLA games..... but also lots of junk to sift through.

Have a look at the pages and pages of Indie titles in my link above, they far outnumber the PR hitlist of bigger titles coming across/delayed etc.
Oh for sure, I just never realized those big name titles were part of the program, including games that were once PlayStation exclusives. Really my own ignorance on what the ID@Xbox program is.

You're going too far back tot he 360 on that one.

They should stop making 3 or 6 months exclusivity deal with indie devs, that's pretty pathetic to me. Just put it in Gamepass and that's it.

They did, they paid $600,000 to big cheese to put Cooking Simulator on gamepass.

XBLIG is part of it going by that huge number.

ID@Xbox was a major expense by Phil I doubt that's included.

So much hate for indie games, and yet the clamour for said indie games on PlayStation just to say "hey look our platform is better" doesn't appear to be ironic but genuine. Indies are great, and much needed for plumping up the console offerings. We don't need AAA games every single month just to validate a console purchase, because that just won't happen in this day and age for starters.

Plus some of the indie games of past have been better then the AAA games they challenge in the genre. But I guess a label of indie automatically curates to "shit game" in some minds.

Funny. Weeks of threads about there is no innovation in gaming and then people shitting in a company investing heavily en helping indies bring their games forward.

It helps the whole ecosystem, they are not even locking them on the platform. What's not to like? You can't even argue that they are favoring indies and leaving high budget productions in the dust but it is not even like that.

What if Microsoft knows that the dev cycle for a high buget game is several years and they know they need content for their platform so they ALSO invest in games with shorter dev cycles? Many of the games in that list have competed (and I'm guessing even won) awards against high budget games.

Good for Microsoft, this is a great example of how positive their participation in the industry is.

In 10 years they haven't selected an indie game that pushes the XB platform forward. In that respect, the 4 Billion is a waste.
That is a really shitty take. This is them handing out over 1 million per game for indies to publish thousands of small games that enhance the platform. It also gives new devs experience and the chance to have some success. It is basically an investment in the broader industry that has the benefit of adding games to the platform. If they continue to do this and put all of these games on gamepass, this will be great for gamers and new/indie devs.

The fact that they went for their next gen launch with The Medium, Call of the Sea, Falconeer and Bright Memory without breaking a sweat was almost impressive in a way.
How is it pathetic to give the developers a choice? If it goes on Gamepass doesn't that also mean it has to be on Gamepass on PC? If a dev thinks they can make more selling the game on Xbox and PC then on PS 3 to 6 months later instead of putting it on Gamepass and selling it on PC on other platforms day 1 then on PS 3 to 6 months later then shouldn't they be the ones making that call?

Make more money you mean, yeah sure the small devs are probably happy to get those huge deals, but those are deals not a selling strategy don't fool yourself.

But obviously i was talking about it from Microsoft perspective. It's obviously meant to be strategic but that shows a little too much how little ambition and focus they can have.
