Why do you think Playstation is Hiding their First party games?

To me this show felt like they were holding on their first party games
But i liked it, neededmore gameplay tho

the games are in the making for a long time now for some studios
Either they are waiting for a bigger install base before releasing more
Or they feel like they have no competition for now

And this was premeditated according to their financial reports earlier

Or maybe this showcase was overhyped as Phase 2

The original rumoured justification for not having a showcase last year was that the content wasn’t ready.

HellDivers had a trailer ready to go months and months ago.
Haven did a CG trailer
Firewalk did a CG trailer
Bungie did a CG trailer

Only Spider-Man had gameplay.

I don’t understand why they bothered this time. Spider-Man should have had a State of Play.

Because they're afraid someone is gonna copy them.

Because they're not ready, obviously
.

After looking at the SpiderMan 2 showcase demo, it looks like it needs a good amount of time in the oven before it's ready, and I can definitely see it being pushed to 2024. That means Wolverine is nowhere near ready to show and shouldn't be expected until late 2025 at the earliest.

Sony Santa Monica just released God of War Ragnarok this past winter so whatever they are working on is just barely starting full production and shouldn't be expected until 2026 at the earliest.

Same deal with Guerrilla Games. They just released their title a few months ago and we shouldn't expect any new game announcement from them for years to come.

It's fine to show a CG trailer as long as studios behind them are high caliber. FireWalk and Haven haven't proven themselves.
You are right. This could have been 40 min showcase or SoP.

I have been saying this for too long. "COVID".

The affect of the lockdown is showing now. Those devs missed out an entire year worth of production, due to that lockdown. Alot of games got affected by that, as they didnt have any home work plan.

The other problem is the length of game production. Games these days take 3-5 years, depending on the lenth and the type of games. With high graphic in play, that means more detailed art which consumes alot of time.

They only showed what they needed to show for now. I know I won't be worrying about games to play on my PS5 and PSVR2 for at least 8 months.

Because Sony is on top of the mountain and ahead of the game and arrogance is taking over as usual. This is the PS3 era all over again and its pissing me off.

Microsoft sadly is not giving good competition. Jimbo will only pull out the big guns when they feel somewhat threatened.

A boring, snoozefest of a generation on both fronts honestly and COVID didn't help either.

This is a stupid generation, because everyone is trying to recoup and regroup everything after COVID. Real generation won't start until PS6/New Xbox launches. Fucking lame.

Those franchises need some rest to not create burnout.
Would love a new Burnout.... 😜🏁🏎️🏎️

But seriously you are right. Also they need new games. I personally am tired of the last of us, horizon. After they killed off uncharted, socom,, Warhawk, Killzone, resistance, infamous, not digging Sony first party lately outside of gow, days gone and ghost of tsushima.

The new wave of games is simply not ready.
That's all. They have Spiderman 2 and Helldivers 2 this year.
The rest is all 2024 stuff and beyond and this puts in perspective why there wasn't a 2022 showcase. You can't force all teams to use CGI to announce their stuff as that would be pointless and it wouldn't have been a good idea to skip a showcase in 2023 as well.

There will be other chances to talk about already announced games (Rise of Ronin, Death Stranding 2, Silent Hill 2, FFVII:R, TLOU Online) and announce a few more. Maybe in late summer, announcements will be made when they feel ready.

Stellar Blade is supposed to come out in 2023 and wasn't there.

Im thinking the generation will go on longer then normal because of covid and how it messed so much shit up. Maybe sony are in no rush and are taking their time. Either that or sony are transitioning all their teams to making service games. Who knows? Maybe there's another show that will happen towards the end of the year that will be shorter and focus on the other first party teams? We'll just have to wait to see

That showcase stunk but I prefer this approach to showing title cards for games that are 5 years away.
A title card for Bloodborne 2 or even TLOU 3 would generate a stupid amount of momentum and marketing hype. While it does suck to wait a long time, there is nothing with doing a title card for at least 1 or 2 massive games.

Because modern AAA games with the production values that people want take 5-6 years to make.
We've gone from devs releasing 3-4 games each gen to 1 or maybe 2.

So unless you have 30 internal studios you'll get some long stretches without new releases.
It's either this or CG trailers for shit that's coming out in 4 years like what Microsoft does.

God of War only released in December, Final Fantasy is out soon and Spider-Man 2 in a few months. Besides you have Geoff’s showcase shortly and we all know how much he loves Sony so there could be something there, a possible Autumn showcase and then there is the VGAs.

You want to try being a Xbox fan like me, constant talk of Activision, the Phil Spencer cultists, the dishonest shills , the lack of big impressive games from them.

PlayStation first party will be alright despite some of the Gaas shite they are involved in.

The most baffling thing to me is why they called it a PlayStation Showcase.
They already have a format for spotlighting their 3rd party offerings & partnerships with State of Play; some of which have clocked in under an hour.

This showcase was so 3rd party heavy, and most of PlayStation Studios was MIA. Even 1st party titles that showed up didn't have much in the way of gameplay.
I understand that games take a considerable amount of time to create, especially good games. However, the marketing for this was way off.

I wouldn't consider it a complete loss, but it just felt lacking. Needed a lot more show-stoppers and captivating titles.

Imo, I prefer the announcement of a game being developed.
It give the consumers something to look forward to, even if the release date is 3+ years.

I'm not a fan of guessing.
We know they have games in development, but the wait for an announcement is a killer.

Well Jim himself said their strategy was to focus on fewer games, with those being "blockbusters".
I still think it's a bad move though, it takes too long to make those expensive games.

During the PS3 gen they managed to keep a good balance between AAA games and medium-budget games.
They should have kept Japan Studio alive to work on those non-AAA games like Gravity Rush, Siren and so on.

I cry about Xbox and hate PlayStation.
1. games not ready to show
2. PS5 keep selling
3. Playstation revenue keeps going up

Sony is doing a business, they are not going to show everything just because people from Neogaf or any social media demands it.

Agree! They should’ve just announced a Spider-Man 2 State of Play and everyone would be happy.

The reason I don’t play Xbox is because they focus on competitive fps with this “cool-wannabe” style, and I feel like the games feel same-y.

This is the feeling that I got with this showcase. All same-y games, many FPS, and live service games.

Spider-Man 2 will be Insomniac’s 4th game since the PS5 launched.
