Only 1 PSN account per Vita - Cancel your preorders :(

I think you're missing the point. For the millions of potential customers who rarely fly/take the train/take the bus the vita is competing DIRECTLY with my ps3/360/Gaming PC. The fact that it's portable really is only a bonus for the 2/3 times a year I fly, and the 1/2 weekends I'll spend at my girlfriend's parents house and I can't sleep.

If Sony released some impractical ridiculous add on for the ps3 that let you play vita games at 720 P on my ps3 for like 50/60$ without buying a vita? I would be much more likely to buy that and the handful of games I'll ever want to play for it like Uncharted/persona 4 remake. Have zero interest in any of the touch/back touch/gyro features anyways.

Don't be so insular, you're missing a point as well.

I think that this would be a good idea, especially for Persona 4 which could be played for like 10 hours straight and tv/couch/controller would be nice.

It's like everything that made Vita so attractive is now being relentlessly shat upon.

"THE FUTURE OF GAMING IS DIGITAL" --> overpriced, proprietary memory sticks ensuring the sales prospects of non-retail software are forever cut off at the knees

I also don't know how GameCenter (which might be a better comparison point here) works with multiple accounts -- can you set up different players on an iPad and switch between them?

http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4314

I haven't done it but that link seems to imply that you can.

Apple said:
Note: If you have multiple Apple IDs, ensure that you are using the one you intend to use with Game Center. Scores, achievements, and friends are not tracked across multiple Apple IDs. You can verify which Apple ID is in use by tapping the Me icon and viewing which Apple ID is being used for your account.

You can change the account by tapping Account: and then signing out of the current account and into the correct one.

PlayStation®Network

I can see this sucking for plenty of people ... but for me, as long as I can use another account to get content onto my PS3 or PC ... and then transfer it over, I'm okay.

I don't think Apple does this right at all. I have purchases across multiple Apple IDs and I have to log into each one separately to update applications from my iPhone. It's so annoying typing in my passwords. But you can at least log out and log into a new account (from the settings menu) without reformatting your phone.

That's a pretty good solution for downloading content in other regions. If it actually works.

So if I set up an american account on my Vita, will I still be able to boot a JP gamecard or will it lock that one as well?.

The only hoop is to create an account for the other region.
I guess that's a hoop, but a very painless one as it's so fast and easy.
The hoops I was talking about are related to actually paying for the stuff you buy. Which usually means buying a point card code on ebay.

That's essentially what the PS3 does, except once the game's installed you can play it on your main account.

This reformatting stuff is pretty bogus.

I hope this is sarcasm, lol.
No, some cues would be good. They do enough crap that them dominating in video games could be awful AND not just because of touch screen exclusivity, such as needing your app on your device or lose your save files (incidentally, really hope Sony isn't dumb there), but while you can't have multiple accounts properly on an iPod/iPad if the computer it's syncing to IS authorized for more than one account you can put apps from those other accounts on and play them. If the PSVita did something like that but with a PS3 instead of a computer (though Sony's probably lukewarm on the idea and publishers would adamantly block it for more sales) it'd nip this complaining easily.

This isn't TOO surprising, but it's still really annoying. It seems to be the mentality of all tablet makers to only have a single account on a device, and if you switch everything gets wiped and reset. I know on the Kindle Fire anything that isn't an App you bought gets deleted, not simply blocked off. Then again that DID keep wi-fi settings, which is an extra layer of annoyance (presumably) with the Vita.

Well, the PS3 has multi user support. You can log completely out of that "user" into another "user" (with different custom themes, preferences, "contacts"/friends, etc.). The iPhone might be a device intended for use by just one, but the iPad could use a fast user switching menu a la OS X.

Or does it have one?

The Vita is not region locked, however obviously we can't buy PAL or Japan content from our US PSN accounts. However, one would assume imported game cards will still work. I don't think you have to worry about that.

It'll work fine.

That's true.
Though in the early days, I was able to use my American CC on the Hong Kong PSN store.

It doesn't. It works exactly like the iPod Touch or the iPhone.

What about a game from Japan w/ DLC? That won't work.

I'm late to the party...

What's the worst that can happen if I choose to switch accounts > restore defaults w/ the memory stick removed?

If the memory stick can be spared, this sounds only as dumb as the PSP. The one account limitation blows, but we've known about this for a few months now. I guess it wasn't properly discussed though.

Somewhat unrelated question ... but do the game carts no longer support saves? Are you required to get a memory card in order to even save games?

That's a pretty good solution for downloading content in other regions. If it actually works.
Hopefully that's the case.

There is no issue really by the sounds of things. Just use a different memory card for each account. No?

You still need to format your Vita to switch to the account tied to the game you bought from PSN.

Unless Aeana's translation comes up with something else.

And you don't need 2 memory cards. I don't know where people are getting that from.

Vita has no memory though, so if you want to play games from different region you can just use a different memory card for each profile without having to format

Where does it say that you can store a profile on a memory card?

Personally I think we should just wait two weeks or for an official Sony response. No point getting so carried away when the truth is not yet known. Anyway not a big deal.

I think Android is actually the current mobile leader in multiple-account flexibility. IIRC, on iOS you can sync a device to multiple accounts but you can only change which account the on-device App Store is connected to by resyncing; on Android you can enable multiple accounts on the device and access all of them. (I have no idea how this stuff works on Windows 7, it might also be similarly flexible.)

I also don't know how GameCenter (which might be a better comparison point here) works with multiple accounts -- can you set up different players on an iPad and switch between them?

You can freely log in/out of different game center accounts. Android is more open, but that doesn't always translate into better gaming environment. I think Apple does more things right, in general -- Android is kind of a mess right now. I think the ideal is a middleground between the two.

I was more referring to how Apple handles regions though:
What? Last I checked the appstore was completely region locked. (As is the Android marketplace for that matter)
Unless the app developer specifies, all apps are available in all markets whether they're localized or not. My apps are english only, but still get purchases from all sorts of far away lands. Prices are standardized into tiers. I think all digital markets should be like this.

Other areas where I think Sony should learn from Apple:
-Apple TV/AirPlay
-Buying app once, syncing it on all compatible devices
-More open developer model

Vita has no memory though, so if you want to play games from different region you can just use a different memory card for each profile without having to format

This would be great, but it might be wishful thinking. 'Reset to factory settings' makes me think it'll be harder to switch.

Some people seem to be confused between the word queue and cue. A queue is a line or sequence of something. A cue is giving someone a signal to do something. So I think you're looking for cue :p. Sorry to veer off topic and I'm sure I've made a grammatical mistake which negates this part of the post :p.
I thought I might be using the wrong word while I was typing it, but said fuck it. Head cold is wrecking me. Thanks for the clarification :p

Okay, that text has nothing to do with accounts themselves on the Vita. The gist of it is that if a Vita game stores saves on the cart itself, you can use that cartridge on other systems with the save data, but you'll only earn trophies if the PSN account you're signed into while playing matches the one that created the save on the cartridge in the first place. Otherwise you have to reset the cartridge in order to start earning trophies with a new account.

I've canceled my preorder. Not due to this issue, but because of the fact that Sony still doesn't get it. Not saying I won't eventually get one, but now it's a maybe purchase in the future instead of a day one purchase.

Vita has internal memory for your profile and firmware updates.

This couple with high memory card prices? I'm on the verge of saying "I'm out".

See this is what bothers me, I haven't seen a single reason to say "i'm in" with the Vita. Yeah, okay, you got cameras, touch panels, and HD graphics. For a handheld that's pretty amazing but the negatives absolutely outweigh the positives in every instance.

Let's talk money:
>High price
>High memory card price
>Pay for 3G if you want, but it still has capped download speeds
>Send in Vita when your battery dies, because it's built in
>>Speaking of battery life, the Vita has low battery life so you have to spend money constantly to recharge it

Things like that shouldn't be acceptable in today's market. The 3DS tried a $249 and bombed hard. The vita has to be good enough to merit its price, and it seems like the online for the Vita is going to bomb.

Let's talk online:
>Only 1 PSN account per Vita
>To switch psn accounts you must restore to factory defaults
>AT&T
>DL speeds capping even with 3G

Seriously? You're seriously going to ship that Sony?..i'm sorry, but the games are going to have to be fricken masterpieces before I consider buying into this pyramid scheme. That's what it is. A pyramid scheme. Sony promises you good service as long as you promise not to sue them, gets you to talk about the vita so others buy into this crappy system with the promise of good games and service, and then they never come. Sony gets our money, and consumers get screwed. Welcome to next-generation corporate policy: Sony, you can sit next to Ubisoft and Activision right over there. If you don't want to, I advise you pretty much bring the Vita back to the drawing board or start making amends.

OH, by the way, with the 1 account thing; there's something you guys are forgetting. Online passes.

Buy a import game that requires online pass on your account, than you can't play game online unless you format your system. That should be a form of region-locking to me.

What the system in the OP describes makes it so you can't play import games online that require online passes, something that Sony is adopting. Got a new early copy of an imported Uncharted? Cool. Just format your vita and log into your import PSN account if you ever want to play it online. (Just making an example, no idea if Uncharted is using the crappy online pass w/ vita)

There's no such implication. The text is only talking about how Vita cartridges work when being played on another system. You can share carts with other people and their systems but they can't earn trophies unless they reset the data because their system will have a different account. Additionally, if your Vita breaks or something and you buy a new one and deal with the activation issue, you would then be able to use the save data on your Vita carts again once you signed into your account on your new system.
That's all this is saying.

Worth quoting. Panic over...

I understand proprietary memory cards and fixed battery (although I think the piracy issue on the PSP is overblown), but what is the point of this? The system is still region free, so every time I want to switch profiles, I need to reset the system, input my user ID and password, wi-fi settings, theme, etc.? Just seems like a lot of hassle for nothing.
