Only 1 PSN account per Vita - Cancel your preorders :(

The Vita is not region locked, however obviously we can't buy PAL or Japan content from our US PSN accounts. However, one would assume imported game cards will still work. I don't think you have to worry about that.

If you import a game physically, it will work regardless of your account. However, if that game requires an online pass to play online, it effectively means its impossible to play that game online unless your PSN account matches the region of where you purchased the game from, so you may have to constantly format your vita to play different games online.

Since Sony is adopting online passes with open arms, almost all games on the vita will eventually do this.

The OP translation is accurate.

Q: PSNアカウントは、PSVita本体1つに対して何個まで設定できますか?

'regarding PSN accounts, on one PSVita machine, up to how many can I register?'

A: 1つです。別のPSNアカウントで使用したい場合は、本体の初期化を行ってください。

'One. In the event that you wish to use another PSN account, please reset the hardware to its original state.'

Do you think Sony is the only one who publishes games on Vita?

Also your example of Uncharted is pretty flawed, given the game doesn't even have an online mode, lol. Then again, your last post was the definition of hyperbole.

It depends on the game, some support this some don't
So just to be clear ...

... while some games support this, some do not? And similarly, the Vita has no internal storage, nor does it come with a memory card?

In other words, some games effectively cannot be played 'out of the box'? While if I get a Vita obviously I was planning on getting a memory card anyway ... but holy crap, that's pretty bad Sony :p

So the OP's text says:

Q: PSN account. Can you set up your PSN account on the PSVita?

A: Yes, one. If you want to use a different PSN account, please format the unit.

I guess that in this case it's easier just to import carts. Will play on my normal psn account I guess. Though will test this when my unit gets here.

Yes, yes it was, lol. For good reason. Sometimes if you don't make enough noise companies ignore you. It will be ignored anyway until the system launches and people all of a sudden realize what's really going on.

And you're right, Sony isn't the only one. I just hate online passes. This is another reason i'm against them as they actively work against consumer interests.

Yeah that's right. You basically need a memory card.

This is all correct, yes.

Isn't this the same as most portable devices though? You can't have more than one account on an iPad for instance... (I wish there was at least a guest mode for iPad... grrr)

This issue alone has made me go from mega hyped for the Vita to "maybe I should wait and see what happens". With the Aus/NZ PS Stores continually fucked over by publishers (hey XSEED, thanks for the complete lack of Ys), having another account is basically a necessity.

I don't understand what the fuck the point is of being region free if you're going to restrict people from using DLC from other regions. What idiot thought this was a good idea? What a half-assed implementation and I'm getting madder the more I think about it. FFS Sony, I don't give a crap about the memory prices, just let me buy the games I want to play without making me jump through hoops.

DLC, as in DLC to correspond with the base games region, actually makes A LOT of sense. There can be slight variations that break the DLC in other versions of a game, IE content is cut or new features are put in, or it had been rebalanced. DLC not designed with that in mind (and a game that isn't coded friendly about those issues) could easily lock up or have other weird issues arise; hell, we even seem to have a lot of those issues when region ISN'T a factor (Bethesda DLC especially).

Seriously though, with how much devices like these and tablets cost they REALLY need to stop being assholes and enable multiple accounts. Keeping an item that costs $100 AT MOST limited to an account... well, that kind of sucks too, but at least it's easier to rationalize buying multiple for a family than a $600 tablet that costs just as much as a lower end computer that CAN be shared.

Yeah Sony gets hammered for something every portable device in existence does.

Well, I've got 4 accounts (two US, one Euro and one Japanese) with various PS1 and PSP games on them, so I'd like to be able to use those on my Vita. I also have UMDs from various regions that I'd like to transfer as digital downloads (using that program Sony is offering).

DLC from a different region seems to work fine on the Xbox 360. Not saying your point isn't valid, just that it can be worked around.

If they hadn't set a precedent with the PS3, people wouldn't be bothered with this at all.

The problem here is that they did, and now many have different accounts with different PSP games, for example.

Luckily they didnt buy those PSP games for the Vita, so it shouldnt be a big problem at least. It could be a bit pity of course, but not a big problem.

They may have.

You guys have to understand that while for some this may not matter at all, for some others it may be a little annoyance, and to a few - like me - it may be a huge problem.

I don't understand what's the motivation behind someone coming into a thread like this and telling other people that they're "overreacting".

The PS3 is/was an anomaly. We'll never have this kind of openness in a console.

Then they must blame themself. It was no guarantee that the Vita would have multiply account usage like the PS3 has.

I have understanding for this, but i wouldnt blame Sony for it in that way (not sure that you do this though).

Really? Would you mind informing me of all the other portable devices that let you import physical copies of games but then do a complete 180 when it comes to digital copies? The PSP and DSi I guess? This handheld gen Nintendo picked a side (the wrong side IMO but at least it was defined in the sand), whereas Sony seemed to go "durr, think? Why do dat?" and are repeating the same crap that made the PSN on the PSP so annoying except somehow even worse.

The fact that you're blindly dismissing everything I said in your attempt to defend Sony really shows your ignorance. Again, Australia and New Zealand missed out on full game releases because of the way the PSN is structured. So why the fuck should I care about the Vita when Sony have set that example and made sure I can't import the games I don't have access to?

You missed my point. I don't want the DLC to be region free, I want the system to be region free. Let me log into my US account, buy DLC for the game I imported from the US and then play it on my NZ account. Just like I can do on my PS3 (and what you were saying in your second paragraph).

Or in an alternate reality where SCE are competent, let me only have one account and access to everything. Let my US account gift it to me or whatever.

Are the profiles stored on the memcard or on the system?

If on the memcard: get ready to buy two $119 memory cards! Oh yeah!
On the system.

You can create or log into existing PSN accounts without a memory card inserted.
I've done this with the Vita units at the mall.

I couldn't find an option to switch accounts, which explains the whole formatting thing.

So yeah, If I want to play purchased items from other Regions, I just need to format the system settings, not the memory card.
Minor annoyance.

Sorry if this has been covered, but is it a pain to buy Japanese PSN stuff internationally? If I got a Vita, I'd probably go with a Japanese PSN account.

Not really. You just have to buy Japanese PSN points cards.

I bought Type-0 on PSN explicitly so I could enjoy using the Vita's exclusive feature of letting you map the second analog stick to anything you want, so that I could have camera controls on the right stick.

You just need to buy PSN Japanese cards at markup prices. A friendly Gaffer could be your best help though...

Who else is there to blame? Myself or God?
What i mean is that when you buy something today, it is no guarantee that it will work on future products. It is like if i'm buying a lot of PS3 games now that i'm going to use on a PS4, and then it turns out that the PS4 doesnt have PS3 backward compability. Then i would only blame myself for buying those PS3 games. Naturally i can say "damn Sony for not having PS3 BC in PS4!" and blame them like this of course, but it isnt something that i feel that i can take for granted. Do you see what i mean? :)

And you still can if you use that account :) It was no guarantee that the PS Vita would support multiply accounts, so if you bought Type-0 on your sub account, well, that is a pity =(

Well, you still can so... no harm done?
Even on PSP you wouldn't have been able to play it on your US account unless you stripped the DRM.

I was simply responding to the person saying that nobody bought PSP games to play on Vita. I did.

Accounts mean far less on PSP, though. There's no trophies, there's no friend list, there aren't really very many useful internet features to speak of, it really doesn't matter what account is on the PSP. And to switch accounts on the PSP, you don't have to lose all of your settings for anything either.

Yeah, but that was just an example of one of the problems people might have with this. There are other questions related to this that others have raised previously in this thread, and they're all valid complaints.

Sorry, i worded it a bit poorly when i said it like that. When i said that no one bought PSP games to play it on Vita, i was just thinking about before we knew all this information, like that people bought games with their sub PSN account(s), or when people bought PSP games before the Vita was announced.

You bought Type-0 at a time when you knew that PSP games would work on Vita. This couldnt be said for sub accounts since it was still unknown if the Vita would support multiply PSN accounts like the PS3 does. I just ment that it isnt something that can be taken for granted to work on future products if someone bought PSP games with their sub PSN account(s). So i dont think (hopefully) that not many people bought PSP games with their sub account to mainly to play them on the Vita and took it for granted that it would work.

More uses for the inevitable second unit everyone will buy anyway when a sweet slimmer model comes out or something. This is not a big deal.

Well, I still have a PSP-1000... so I think the odds of me buying a second Vita are pretty slim, huh?

More examples:

- With this system, you can't play content from other regions in your account (for Trophies, usage of Friends List, etc.);
- With this system, only one person can use the handheld for personal purposes without resetting the settings (again, for Trophies, usage of Friends List, etc.);
- With this system, families can't "gameshare" digital content bought on one account through different Vita units.
