So, apparently, the Nintendo 3DS doesn't like to be opened and closed too much...

I've been having a problem since I bought Mario Kart 7 where, after being closed in sleep mode and opened again, the console would have no sound.

After this has happened like 4 times I decided to see how often this happens by opening and closing the console repeteadly (not too fast even) to see what would happen.

What's happened is that after the 5th time I did this the console just shut down and now, everytime I try to start it, it will do so for about a second or less to then shut off again (along with a cracking short sound of the speakers)

Has this happened to anybody else? Has somebody any idea of what could I do to make it work before asking Nintendo to repair it? (Although I'm thinking I should just ask for an exchange, as I guess this could happen more and more in the future)
Also, will I lose my downloaded games if I get a replacement?

If you exchange it, yes. If you send it to Nintendo for a repair, no.

Happened to me once with Mk7 as well. Brand new 3DS. It's probably just a software issue.

Guys, it's not MK7 now, my system doesn't turn on. Do you have any suggestion?

I am thinking of opening the back panel and removing the battery? Does this break my warranty?

Quick lets make a thread compiling all the flaws in the 3DS, Sarcasm

Well, I sure have a few but I think this one deserved its own thread as it can avoid this happening to others that will have the same brilliant idea of opening and closing the system several times in a row....

Sorry I was referring to the Fail Vita thread

Ah, just ignore them. Everyone has been really crabby lately.

Yeah, I had the Mario Kart 7 glitch where it kills off the sound when closed. Won't come back until powered off and back on, even if you drop out to the OS (and to be clear, it kills all sound on the 3DS, not just the game, until reboot).

Ok, I just contacted Nintendo. Thing is, I currently live in the Netherlands but I bought my system through Amazon.co.uk. Should I send it to Nintendo UK or can I send it to Nintendo Netherlands?

I had no sound during MK7 once too after it being closed on sleep. Good to know its the game and not my system.

I had the no sound issue on MK7 after waking it from sleep once. I didn't have to reboot or anything, just closed the system and opened it again and sound was back.

Didn't Nintendo patch a bug in the GBA Pokémon games? Was there something specific about that bug that allowed them to just modify the save file to fix it?

Happened to me a few times with MK7, it's happened randomly with other games too. Black screen but with sound.

Grumpy sleeper.

I also had the no sound issue when trying to wake the 3DS up from sleep mode with Mario Kart inside. Never had a problem before that, and hopefully never will again.

Same here. Simple fix.

I believe the OP just has a faulty 3DS and needs to get it replaced. I've open and closed my system countless times with no problems.

I sent my wii in. Not very long. They sent it back to me in less than 10 days and that's Canada's awful postal service.

I sent my 360 in when it red ring'd and received a 360 back within the week. I don't think our system is that bad.

Well, as soon as you quit handling objects as if you were a five year old with under developed motor skills, perhaps your shit wouldn't break as often :p

Nintendo products are designed for just such an audience, however, so it should be able to withstand that. ;)

I can't be the only one that read this topic and then looked at his 3DS with shifty eyes. I really want to try opening and closing it a few times to see if it breaks.

Must. Not. Fiddle.

It's not like I was trying to break it. I just opened and closed the system several times in a row, always allowing the system to come back before closing again. I don't think that is anything a console should not be able to handle. At least, I cannot understand how can it just break completely because of that.

Anyway, sending it tomorrow finally, let's see if I get it back before Christmas :(

We should have an "Another negative for the 3DS" thread like that shill posted for Vita a few days back.

Ok, I just received from Nintendo a whole new system but with all my games and savestates intact, pretty cool. Nice also because this system has a much better hinge than my previous one which was kind of loose. Great!
