Intrigued. Will wait for a better quality trailer to comment on the effects. First half of the trailer was awesome tho. Love Guy Pearce

I was blown away by Leon, so I'll pretty much give anything Besson does a shot until he dies. But his recent output hasn't been so hot, and this trailer looks pretty sketchy.

Definitely interested in this now. Looks like it has a solid cast. Guy Pearce is fucking awesome. Dude needs to be in more movies.

You have the WRONG movie in your title. Reading the plotline this screams "Escape from New York" in space.

Will watch for Guy Pearce, a great actor with a shit agent. He should have been a-list leading man by now. Oh well...I still have LA Confidential and Memento.

It's The Proposition that makes the guy god-tier in my mind...

Okay, wait a second, can we just digest this plot one more time?

A man wrongly convicted of conspiracy to commit espionage against the U.S. is offered his freedom if he can rescue the president’s daughter from an outer space prison taken over by violent inmates.

Really?

Edit: Also, for anyone who wants to see Guy Pearce's best acting, watch Factory Girl for his portrayal of Andy Warhol. It's so good he overshadows every other person in the film. Unstoppable acting ability that seems to almost always be missed. Also, Till Human Voices Wake Us.

Is there something wrong with that? Escape from New York pretty much had the exact same plot line, it's not aiming for realism.

I like the premise, Guy Pierce and a lot of the stuff in that trailer, but I'm not so keen on the space combat-y stuff. Luc Besson means this will at least be watchable,

It's always been interesting to me how some directors -- Besson and Del Toro, as two of the more notable and recognizable examples -- can actually create a "brand" of sorts through producing. Their name on the marketing gives the project commercial clout and helps give up-and-coming directors a foot in the door (despite often having to adhere to stylistic or thematic framework that viewers will associate with the producer credit rather than being able to make something using their own creative voice) while additionally giving the impression to many people that it is an actual Luc Besson Film™.

The guy's barely directed anything in the last 15 years save for a minor series of kid-friendly CGI flicks and some Euro pet projects that don't even have a US presence, yet having his name on all these different action movies gives the impression he's been busier than Uwe Boll.

Will watch for Guy Pearce, a great actor with a shit agent. He should have been a-list leading man by now.

Pearce doesn't want to be A-list. He's made it very clear through interviews (which are rare) that he dislikes "celebrity" and only acts because it's something he gets enjoyment from, not for fame or money. He's a musician in his spare time and seems to much prefer that to chasing after the next big project.

The concept of a "space prison" is just mind-numbingly stupid, since it'd cost billions to house criminals with no apparent advantages over a prison on Earth. It'd be harder to escape, but you could accomplish pretty much the same thing with an island prison.

This isn't ripping off Escape from New York, it's ripping off Project Shadowchaser!

In that movie, an American football player in jail for something or other (played by the bad coach from the Karate Kid) is offered a chance for freedom if he rescues the President's Daughter (played by Meg Foster) from a hospital taken over by a robot with a bunch of criminals.

Well, just as much. (It's actually not a bad movie, the ending is especially great.

But beyond that, why on earth would a space prison even remotely make sense? As if it the current prison system isn't costly enough, they're shooting convicts up to space? (Then again, with their lobbyists...)

I like Guy Pearce and I like the Tyler Durden-esque character he's playing so I guess I'll be watching this.
