Vita Will Allow Multiple PSN Accounts, Sony Says

This keeps getting worse:
1. 3DS price/deals keeps going down cementing Nintendo's position.
2. Outrageous Mem cards for the Vita that make everyone mad at greedy sony
3. Only one PSN profile per vita

and this now. You want more profiles on your Vita? Well better get yours grandmother's pension fund out of the bank!

Aren't they a little afraid? I mean Nintendo clearly was and came from that incredible success with the DS. So what gives?

Can probably go online as a guest and browse, but if you wanna buy anything, "better buy our memory card first!"

This could actually happen.
Well, I expect that to happen.
You can't buy anything because there's nothing to download to.

Wait, so it means that factory reset also format memory card?
Can't be though, you can factory reset with no card inside.

So what if I have a memory card with stuff on it and my account and another memory card with DLC or some shit? Is it really one account for every memory card? What the shit is this, who invented it and how do I punch him?

Wait, so if the profile is tied to a memory card, if you wanted to move up to a larger size memory card all you have to do is copy everything over? There's not going to be some dumb profile transfer hoops we'd have to go through in terms of deactivation/reactivation right? Right?? :(

I would think you just put in the new card, activate your old account on it and start synching with your PS3/PC to get your old stuff back. Optionally you could start re-downloading (saves would be in the cloud if + member).

Get an extra job folks ;-). Money is not an issue but I'll say the prices are steep even for these proprietary cards.

This sounds like storage encryption.
Proprietary security at a cost to the end user.
Brilliant.

Will probably still buy two 16GB cards. I am weak.

Oh, okay. So now I have to spend money to have multiple accounts instead of just time redoing all of my settings. This isn't any better than what we thought before.

Better than before.

I had no idea 25 dollars was crazy expensive though. Hope no one actually robs a bank for that.

Give away the razor, make profit off of the blades is the strategy of shaving accessory companies. It's not a bad strategy but I really don't this is that common of a scenario besides hardcore gamers who want to play in multiple regions, so I'm on the side that this sort of fixes the issue...I just am lazy so I will probably end up buying two Vitas eventually.

While it's certainly not ideal, I can live with this. For me, it's better than the current PSP situation.
The card for foreign purchases can be pretty small, since they mostly are RPGs, and I only play one of those games at a time anyway.

You don't seem to be able to earn trophies on your primary account with imported games though?

Actually, even outside the regional issue I think this makes sense. I wouldnt really want room taken up on my memory card by a game I dont even play because someone else's account has it.

That's nice, changing cards for different account will be much more comfortable than the process of changing an account in a PSP.

Too bad the price of the cards is so insane. But I could see myself buying a second card for a Japanese account in a year or so (hopefully, at lower price).

Sony has utilized this strategy in like forever, they've even gone on account saying they employ a "razor -blades" strategy.

Yeah, you play with each distinct account. That still sucks, but same as PSP.

Anyway, at least it is possible to (conveniently) swap between accounts now - just at the expense of more...err...expense.

Think I'll get a 8GB for a non-primary 'import' account and a 16GB for my regular account. Call me a sucker, but there is a value in being able to 'instantly' import any game over the air.

My PSN ID is my JP account since I got my PS3 when I was living in Japan, but I buy things off my US account all the time. Will I at least be able to transfer purchases between accounts? This all sounds really stupid.

At first I was like.

And then I was like. :|

I guess it's better than factory reset, maybe it'll be worth it in a couple of years when the 4GB might be like $10-15.

I think I am extremely ok with this. For organizational purposes this is probably what you want anyway, and now it looks like sharing your Vita with someone else means that you just need to buy another memory card to store their account instead of constantly factory resetting the console. If account switches are as simple as swapping the card then I would be willing to buy the cheapest card to have the convenience of a second account.

Of course, yes, this implies that you will need a memory card to sign into PSN...

Of course not.

According to the Wired article, you CAN change the account on the memory card but you need to reset to factory settings first. Does that mean we can keep files from different accounts on 1 card, and then switch account manually ? But if you have 1 account per card, you obviously don't need to deal with switching and factory defaults.

As ridiculous as the memory card prices are for 2011, things are still much better than they were in 2004. I paid almost $200 for a 1gb memory stick back then for my PSP. >_<

Doesn't excuse the current pricing, but it somehow doesn't seem that bad when considering that.

Sony is not taking a bath or anything. They will brake even or make a little profit from the VITA.
Where was this confirmed?

I think there needs to be clarification on what "Reset to Factory Default" implies.
