gave away the keys to the kingdom.
Watched the trailer on youtube. Framerate is too smooth, looks like the source is 60 fps which is why I find it hard believing it's on PS3 but ok, let's leave it at that.

As for the theme I'm a bit dissapointed. Looks like another american zombie-infection flick that takes itself too seriously. I hope gameplay will be good at least.

The trailer is 30fps.

Edit: I sourced the 720p MP4 from GT, not YouTube.

Screw open world. That's a game killer right there for me if they take that approach.
If it's 'open' as Arkham Asylum that would be great. I don't think the graphics will allow them to go any larger than that.
Please don't be as boringly scripted as U3 though is my only wish; U2 directer is a good start though.

The amount of people jumping to conclusions in this thread is uncanny. Skipping it based on an announce trailer haha.

Anyways, looks spectacular and can't believe we'll probably get 2 fantastic franchises from the Naughty Gods if this comes anywhere close to Uncharted quality.

Love the potential I Am Legend / The Road vibe from this. Looks like it could bring the survival aspect back to survival horror games.

Everyone screaming zombies needs to rewatch the trailer or read some of the blurbs about the game. Seems like you'll be scrounging for supplies while trying to avoid both other survivors and the infected-types.

From the blurb about nature encroaching back in the cities, the infected could be caused by something similar to the fungus teased before the game was unveiled, nature trying to reclaim the world.

You know, The Happening but with less Wahlberg and Shyamalan lol.

Very excited and surprise of the year.

This game will do for the zombie genre what Uncharted 2 did for adventure games.

Are you serious?

With his reply he was able to downplay the Naughty Dog game, while implying that they ripped off Valve for their character... and the only thing he had to give up was admitting Zoe was the "most generic of the L4D survivors" which 1) isn't an admission that L4D is generic, 2) at best he only has to admit that the worst character was possibly generic.

it's fucking masterful.

Lots of people are sensible. Certain things excite certain people. I like games where survival is the objective and not a side consideration. I also like linearity, but this has nothing to do with anything at this point since I know nothing about the game.

I made a thread a long time ago complaining about the usage of "generic," so it's just sort of a trigger for me.

AA is tiny though. If this is really a cross-state adventure story, I don't know how they can do open world. At "most open," it would be linear with branching paths or secret places to explore. They could do something on the scale of San Andreas, but why? It doesn't make any sense for a game about survival.

In a game like this, I wouldn't mind linearity. What I would mind is railroading. Theres a difference.
Sure, there might be ONE place you have to go, ONE objective you have to complete or whatever. But I'd like to be able to find that out on my own, allow me to go off the path I need to take to get to my objective and reward me for that.

Jeebus that looked amazing.

Me and my wife were practically bouncing off the walls during that trailer.

I've been a fan of ND since the Jak and Daxter series, and it's been great seeing them evolve as a developer, and push themselves. It's very surprising to see them introduce another new IP in one generation. Pretty sweet.

Easily one of my favorite developers these days.

I am really hoping Ellie is the lead.

Agreed, except for the part where reading some discussions about the game will make my skin crawl but I think that's pretty much a given.

I would also really like it if she didn't become Joel's moral guiding light, his shining purpose in this post-apocalyptic shit-storm because that theme is so damn overplayed it makes me sick. No noble sacrifice either.

To be clear I'm not against them needing each other to survive but she's got to bring more to the table than just being a scrappy youngling and cute girl.

Give me an example of a game you think would be a good model. I won't say whether or not I agree with it, but I'm curious.

OMG, they are NOT zombies!

The newspaper clipping that we saw clearly said it was an infection. The video of the ant confirms that this has to do with some sort of fungal infection. People are being infected, which turns them into these creatures.

I don't understand you people? Are you looking for something to complain about?

Honestly there's the superficial similarities like setting... and that's certainly part of it, but what reminded me of The Road was feeling like there was going to be a very strong relationship between the two characters. The girl here is quite a bit more able than the boy from the story, but I was very impressed about how the two characters communicated without words. And that was very prominent in the book. And stuck with me.

Well, other than initial settings, (by the trailer!!!) it missed the fragility of characters creating an even bigger will to survive, but that's a given because I'd wage it passed almost 30 years after the pandemic event, so both were raised to survive.
Which is a huge departure from the tone in The Road.

After accepting the fact that the monsters won't be going away :( I was thinking a few things that might be cool if they make:

- Since a long time has passed, hopefully the fauna reclaimed it's territory too.
- Scavenger has to be a big deal and inventory handling, since they are on a journey and supposedly walking.
- Only simple monsters, please. No "oh I retained my smartness and got super big and strong harhar resident evil 6" monsters.
- Brutal humans, make them aware, make them smart. They've been surviving for 30yrs too.

---

And if they are zombies or not:

By the trailer, they act as "modern zombies". Faster, thirstier, not that clunky. More predators than resilient slowpokes.
So yeah, sporeheads as of now, look a lot like modern zombies.

Man I have watched the trailer 4 times already. Gets better and better. Can't believe ND are trying for another IP. The balls on these guys.

I dunno...Maybe like MGS3, minus the stealth, ya know? Theres one thing you absolutely have to do, but you can go off here or there, go into this building or that building and find items. You can go and mess around if you want but the game won't advance until you go complete the objective you have to complete.
Or maybe something like Jak 1 where you have a series of objectives to complete in an area. That'd be cool too.

I'd say the hype was more or less warranted. I sure as hell didn't expect a new ND game to be announced so soon and was really shocked at the start of the trailer. I'm very interested to see some gameplay when they're ready.

It's the genre of people trying to survive being eaten/killed by infectuious creatures. It's very much a zombie thing, but certainly not exclusive if you look at something like I Am Legend (vampires). I don't blame people for saying it's a "zombie" game, but I don't think it's fair to say games have done this exact game before. Films have maybe.

I can almost say with certainty it will be the same case in this game. The average gamer does not want to be running out of ammo.. everything has to be streamlined and not frustrating. This is why most survival horrors fail this gen. If they did make stuff like ammo extremely rare you would have some baby reviewer whining that the game is no fun.

The only survival horror game this gen that was actually scary at all has been Amnesia and they had to take weapons away entirely.

You can say it for a certainty? Based on an assumption?

cant wait for the ps4 so ND can sort out there hair on female characters. it just looks a bit shit compared to everything else.

oh... so I guess god of war 4 at e3 then?

Framerate looks 'too' smooth, because it's a rock solid 30FPS with very good object based motion blur. Other than that, there's no interpolated 'shadow' frames created by the combination of two 60FPS frames, which is what you were thinking of. I checked some scenes frame by frame to be sure. Everything these guys make is hard to believe it's running on PS3 the first time you see it unveiled. That's pretty much their MO.
