Fishing Resort new trailer [Wii/XSEED/Prope] - open-world fishing

I happen to be a girl, and I'm not even marketing... (I'm the Senior Editor at XSEED) But, I shall endeavor to answer your questions despite a marked lack of enthusiasm for the fishing game I so lovingly poured hours of my life into. :p

For Earth Seeker, I'm sorry to say, we won't be pursuing it. And as for Rodea, we have no say in that game as the IP holder, Kadokawa, hasn't even disclosed their Japanese release plans yet. So really, your only hope for a good Wii game from Yuji Naka is to pick up Fishing Resort. ;)

Noooooo, passing on Earth Seeker? I heard the sales were fairly poor in Japan so I can understand your decision, but still. I was really banking on you guys bringing that one over.

Oh well, I did my part and ordered a rod bundle of Fishing Resort on Amazon.

Thanks for releasing this game here - I'm excited that the U.S. is still able to get niche titles like this, and without XSEED around we wouldn't have ever seen this one here =)
Hear, hear! Three cheers for XSEED! I buy everything they release for the platforms I own (don't have a PSP so I can't enjoy Corpse Party's buttery goodness).

Do you guys design your avatars to look like you, or did you just go crazy?
I tried to make mine look like me. And I confess I'm still wearing the default clothing. I have too much essential stuff to buy (high-grade tackle, licenses, aquarium construction and upgrades, etc.). Eventually I'll buy some clothes. And some butter. Wait, no, wrong game. :)

I've never liked fishing, but mostly for my fear of open water. I think I might pick this game up for a nice change of pace and the praise of the relaxing music. Hopefully I won't have a problem finding a copy at Wal-Mart or TRU in Canada.

Rumble is the only indication that you've got a nibble on a lure. Unlike float fishing, there is no visual clue (at least not that I've noticed). So if rumble is turned off (press blue home button on remote, click "Wii Remote Settings", click rumble "Off") you will be lure fishing without a clue. I turned rumble off in 2008 (literally) and haven't given it a thought since then...until I finally realized that was why I couldn't hook a fish with a lure (except by pure luck).

Ah... I see. I thought you meant that it was on but not working for whatever reason (I've only had two cups of coffee today, so I'm operating at 60% brain power right now). :p

That butter thing is ALL Tom's(the translator/editor of CP) fault! Do you guys have an inkling of how many times I have to address that on twitter and the forums?! Damn Tom. ;P

Thanks, Mudo! Believe me when I say EVERY sale matters, so much appreciation for the pick-up.

Sorry, Yuterald. I know you really wanted that one. :( Cheers, then, for grabbing Fishing Resort still! I think it'll help you forget about ES. ;)

This game might just make you crave the water after seeing it. It's a really pretty Wii game (especially at night! Go night fishing!). Happy hunting for the game! Our stuff can be a little hard to track down, but I'd like to think that it's worth it. :)

Fault? You mean like developing the first polio vaccine was Jonas Salk's fault? Like figuring out that the Earth orbits the sun was Nicolaus Copernicus' fault? Oh, OK. Damn you, Tom! It's all your fault!

I'm up to 413th place on the Alligator Gar World Size Ranking! I'm kicking tail and taking names! Well, maybe not. But I'm still having fun! :)

I ordered the controller bundle today from Amazon. So excited to play this! :D

Yes! (^-^) Can't wait to hear what you think of it.

+100 mood up! You have no idea how happy this makes me. I've been trying really hard to show off Fishing Resort (in our very grassroots way), but it's hard to get people excited about a fishing game. I completely understand that it doesn't hold much appeal for many gamers, so hearing stuff like this really makes putting this game out worthwhile. Thank you for giving it a shot.

I haven't found this anywhere in Canada. Has anyone been able to find it or should I just order it online?

Ordering online seems to be the best bet at the moment. I'm not sure why it's been so hard to find in Canada where stores like Toys R Us and Walmart actually have a physical on-shelf presence, though... In the states it's been mostly Amazon online or other online vendors so far. Any luck yet?

Wow! You're competing with Japan too, so that's insane! There must be at least 30k+ people playing over there. I'm really impressed. What size was your gar? (pics?)

And for any thread lurkers who have yet to succumb...

A Wii... and FISHING RESORT!

My best is 10.1198 feet. There are three people tied for first with 10.2280 feet. I like how the leader board shows what tackle they used. The top 4 used bait whereas I use a lure.

Nice! I can't believe you got one with a lure. I tried all sorts of things to get one early on but they hated rainbow bait and seemed to scoff at large blue bait. I use red or yellow large if I want a gar. And I swear I caught an 11ft-er one time, but I might have been playing on debug...

That's terrifying. I haven't come across any caves yet but I'll make sure to keep an eye out.

If you think that's terrifying... wait 'til you nab one of these...

Seems like a fair review. He played a lot and tried a bunch of the activities, though I get the impression that not many will be willing to give it much of a higher score because they feel the genre doesn't warrant it (my personal opinion only). Can't tell if he knew about the night fishing, but it seems like he had a moderate amount of fun. I'd say that non-fishing people would enjoy this game too, however. I certainly did. ^_^

Popzara also did a rather nice review of it: Fishing Resort Review - Popzara

Hey H.Protagonist, I really appreciate your work in spreading the word about this game, since it looks like worth of attention. Anyway, I'm from Italy and so far there has not been any announcement about it in Europe. Do you know if some publisher is willing to bring the game over here? Rising Star Games or something like that? Thanks!

Got the game a few days ago, but only started playing yesterday and managed to catch an S-rank seahorse!
Been playing for just a few hours and am enjoying myself, such a relaxing game.
Can't wait to start catching some bigger fish.

I pretty much never let anyone else buy me games because I hate waiting...but I asked for this for Christmas since my girlfriend and I set a $25 limit this year since we're going on a big trip early next year..waiting sucks!

Here's the lure I used for Alligator Gar (spoiler tag in case people want to figure it out for themselves):
Deep Green McCoy

I keep a spreadsheet of all my catches so I know where and how I caught them (I fill it in when I get the summary from the fishing center at the end of the day). Yes, I'm hooked. Bad. :)

My pleasure! I did work on the game, after all, but I wouldn't make such a personal effort if I didn't think it was any good. ^_^ As per your question, though, unfortunately we only have the license for NA. We aren't involved with the EU side at all, I'm afraid. That would be up to Namco. You could certainly poke Rising Star Games for a release (they take suggestions), but I also know that a few people have imported it too... ;)

I... have never caught an S-ranked seahorse... ;_; I am, however, really proficient at hooking driftwood. Lots and lost of driftwood... (Glad you're enjoying it! Please post more of your awesome catches when you land them!)

Waiting is seriously hard for something you want to play right now. Especially something as lovely and engrossing as Fishing Resort. Anticipation will make it all that much sweeter?

My copy arrived today. After a few hours I have tossed the controller as I really don't like it.

That said, I love this game! It's so charming and chill. I am the master of seaweed catching so far! I told myself I was only going to play for a few minutes, then looked up and saw that three hours had passed.

I did a little dance when I caught a lobster. The game really feels rewarding and incredibly fun/relaxing at the same time.

How much fun am I having with this? Skyrim also arrived today and is still sitting there sealed. :D

Welcome aboard the fishing addiction train!

Be sure to go into settings (on the computer in your hotel/lodge room) and turn on the Nintendo WiFi Connection. That way if you catch one of the nine fish in the contest its length will be automatically entered. It fuels the addiction, believe me.

Also, is there a way we could make this the |OT| in a desperate attempt at getting more people to take interest?

I totally missed this somehow. I would love if this became the OT, or if anyone wanted to start one...? I'd totally provide sexy graphics and info! I'd post one myself, but seeing as I work at XSEED that seems a little...sad(?). ;_;

Totally needs online co-op. Fishing MMORPG. World of Fishcraft. It'll blow Dragon Quest X out of the water (so to speak).

You mean... THIS?!

EPIC FISHING RPG OF EPICNESS TRAILER!

(The image isn't from the trailer, but it does scream epicness, doesn't it? ^_-)

I want to frame that bolded bit. ^_^ Hurray for chilling out with Fishing Resort! The game does feel absurdly rewarding when you catch something rare or weird or S-class. A totally non-stressful game that appeals to the OCD in many of us gamers. Can't wait to hear what you think of it as you progress through the areas. I personally LOVE the Emerald Lake in the Panas jungle area.

I always loved playing those Sega Fishing games and fishing in the Breath of Fire games so I asked for this for Christmas.

I've had a pretty stressful fall so I love having some relaxing games to play. I will certainly keep you updated with my progress. Also just bought a second copy to give a friend as a gift. :D

I haven't found this anywhere in Canada. Has anyone been able to find it or should I just order it online?

I'm going to check with a friend of mine who works with distribution at Wal-Mart in Canada, see if he knows what the deal is. Sometimes they send all of the copies to "core" areas, which means it ended up in Wal-Marts out in the middle of no where.

TRU, well, TRU in Canada is a mess, so no surprise there not being able to find it in the store.

H-H-H-H-H-H-H-Holy frickin' cow. That is all.

You mean the fish or the trailer? Both are BREATHTAKING. O_O

Yes! You are going to spend a blissful Christmas morning fishing for Japanese Bullhead Sharks! I can see it already!

With Yuji Naka at the helm, it practically is a SEGA fishing game!

Maybe I should emphasize that more to convince people of the quality of this game?

feat-sub5A_02.jpg

Naka-san will always be known for Sonic, but his Prope titles are absolutely charming. Ivy the Kiwi is something I'd want my children to have (storybook beautiful) and Fishing Resort is like the Muppets: suitable for kids, but also enjoyable for adults. ;)

Ivy! (Click for insane trick gameplay if you're curious)

(Mind you, the US version is in color. This is the Jpn game.)

Watch out for adroit. He's only inviting you into the contest so that he may crush the hopes of another angler. ;) And cheers for the 2nd copy! This game makes a great (and cheap!) Christmas present for family/friends with a Wii. The bundle box makes an especially pretty gift package. It's big, it has weight, it looks great under a tree...

Let me know what you find out. We've had people say they found it no problem in Canada, and then others that had to order online to get a copy. I'm wondering if most of the problems aren't from the Quebec area where we don't have copies because of the bi-lingual package requirements. :/

About that Yuji Naka member card...how is he a "Fishing King" if he's only played the game for 14 minutes and 12 seconds? Do I detect some debug mode shenanigans?

Damn those shots are purdy. :D

Only thing I kinda dislike is how the overworld has a fixed camera, it should've been more like Go Vacation in this regard.

And damn, I've never seen Ivy in any store in Canada, even though it's at EBGames's website. :(

Out of curiosity, has XSEED considered bundling Ivy and FR together? Both were published by Bandai in Japan so I doubt they'd complain.

Even better if Let's Tap was also included, but that being by Sega...

I want to thank you for being so kind as to post on GAF, shows that you and XSEED as a whole truly care. :)

And DAMN I want my Rodea! XD I don't suppose you can't talk with Kadokawa about a release before Japan?

HI HI HI! I thought I support this thread with my post on this awesomeness!

Okay :reading above: thank you for posting the password! Got an electric eel out of it. :D :D :D Now I'm curious, will not playing this game on wifi (online) cause some missing out on the extra goodies? Would passwords make up for it? If so, let me know where I should look for them! Also, because of that password, I got a fish symbol on the pc showing with a number indicator. JUST HOW MANY ARE THERE? o.o'

I definitely plan to go ALL OUT ON THIS. 100% or NOTHING. xD (I'm a girl and I'm scary obsessed kind of gamer lmao. You should see my gametime on Xenoblade and Skyrim. 245 and 350 hours respectively.)

I absolutely love the fact that this game has Awards. Nothing but huge amount of motivation to get those! :D At least something to look at as a form of a goal to achieve while I'm playing. I like that they're also very reasonable! S rank fish total in 150 for platinum for example. I already got 4 within 5 hours or so.

Having awards hint at other stuff is also a darn good motivator to check out everything else this game has to offer! I'm awful curious about this Sniper Casting, I hope to find out more about it later.

I SUCK at Kayak Racing, I do like that this game allows to reverse the controls for me! IE I'm more right-handed but yet to do the retrieving I do it with my right obviously, so the controls switch to the left for the rod. This is obviously reflected in change for the kayak as well! :D Thank you for the consideration!

I also like that you can have some form of a points bank rewarding you everyday for more fish types you catch! The Aquarium does this so nicely, I keep upgrading the rooms I'm fishing in the most. It already yielding me 2k worth of points right now (10 days in). Definitely need a money in the bank daily to buy those crazy outfits later! :D

I also like that there's points for firsts of every sort of thing in awards and special awards you get for misc stuff you do. With this said, I already got my Night Pass! Partake in lots of activities and you'll get one! To fish at night! And an Alarm Clock (to fish even earlier in the mornings) for getting your Targeted fish! Awesome, just when I thought there's seriously not enough time in the day! xD These are a god f'ing send!

DO THE BULLETIN BOARD'S ACTIVITIES AND TARGET THEM FISH guys, you'll get more time out of the day as rewards later! :)

And yes, gosh this game is so pretty. <3

OH YEAH. How do you get the Symbol photo that on the side of the cabin and with all of those kayaks in front of it? I had issues with the camera trying to get it. Any suggestions?

It's just a purdy, purdy game. :)

As for Ivy, I don't know if it'll be your cup of tea, but I found it charming as hell, and I think it's worth tracking down for your collection. Online might be the best bet for that one, sadly. Regarding bundling them together, I'm not sure Nintendo would allow it, but we couldn't do it anyways. Both were published by Bandai in Japan, but the difference is that Prope owns the Ivy IP while Bandai owns FR. Ivy was fully funded and developed by Prope, Bandai only published it, whereas FR was funded by Bandai and Prope made it for them. See? No-can-work-y.

And finally, as per my posting on neo, 1) yes, I do care! but also, 2) I'm addicted to the funny picture thread in Off-Topic mostly... ^_-

That's a very fine question. I'm thinking that that Red Emperor has joined some kind of rebellion and is plotting your death as we speak. I'd be wary of that one.

I also have no idea. I'll take a look at the text and see if that gives me some insight into his suspicious tank-hopping ways. ^_^

Damnit. I need to get work done but now I just want to go play. I am still on the first island and am looking forward to these locales. I didn't even know there were that many locations! :D

You have tons more exploring in store for you. I can't wait to hear what you think about the mini-fishing trip areas... :D

So...much...enthusiasm! I like it! You're welcome for the password (rather thank Prope), and I'll be putting out another one at the end of the month most likely. I'll let you guys know, of course. As for the pic thingy you see, I'm not sure what that is or what it means... We'll find out when I release the next password, I guess? :D

Without the Wi-Fi, however, you are missing out on a few optional fish. The password fish are 'extras' outside of the DL fish. Even without access to the Wi-Fi fish, though, you'll still have 200+ species to catch on the island itself plus all the outfits, equipment and something quite...special later on. When you get to that point and get the item in question, come tell me what you think. Glad you plan on killing it, and I wonder who's going to play it to death more between you and adroit. ;) Really, really pleased you like it so much. Please feel free to review it on any other sites to get the word out!

As for the symbol by the kayaks, I think you can get a decent angle from farther away and then use the zoom til the circle goes green. If that doesn't work for you, let me know and I'll try it on my end to give you a better explanation. ^_^ Happy hunting!

Today was a good day for fishing.

I ranked #5 in the Big Size World Ranking of Forceps Fish! 0.7664ft S-Rank.
Only 0.0007ft away from #1, which is shared by 4 people. :(

Wow these shots are beautiful. Actually, they look impossible for the game running on an HDTV through the Wii. Are these possibly shots from an Emulator of some kind? I ask because I'm still interested in getting the game running on Dolphin, as the graphics are crazy through it (but performance I just can't get good enough to play with).
