I love the THPS series as much as anyone, but I wonder what control scheme the games will have.

Surely they won't handicap it by sticking to THPS2 controls, would they?

The game needs to at least have reverts and flatland combos or it'll feel ancient.

I'm hoping they'll keep the controls to the levels they were in maybe THUG2. I'm not a huge fan of the slow-mo flips they've added since then but reverts are essential I would think. I also hope they include some THUG 1&2 levels as well as I really loved some of those - really interesting levels.

Still, looking forward to it either way.

I played the shit out of this game back then. I will do the same thing again.

QFT!!!

I guess Activision has been listening to the fans of the series (well, they most likely listened to the sounds of our wallets parting our 20 bucks more like it) and will do the right thing. And for that and that alone, I will stop my Activision boycot and buy this.

Fuck yeah!!!

After playing Skate 2 at a friends house all I can say is...

Day one.

I just realized that I want more sport game remakes. As much as I don't get the demand for remakes of old RPGs (maybe because I mostly play them for the story) I would really love to play those easy, accessible sportsgames in glorious HD and 16:9. You know, the games where you don't have to memorize 67 different button combinations.

Custom soundtracks or no buy - it's unreasonable to expect them to re-license all that music from the originals, but at the same time those tracks are a huge part of what makes the THPS franchise so memorable. It'd be like playing Crazy Taxi without The Offspring/Bad Religion, or Carmageddon 2 without Iron Maiden. Fuck that.

This is Activision. I think they'll be able to afford the songs.

Cmon EA, make Skate 4. Fuck THPS.
Wait until the next generation for Skate 4. They really add a whole lot now. In the meantime I hope they release a Skate for the PS Vita. 2 analog sticks baby!

Can't wait to play this though. I launched American Wasteland recently for some reason and had a blast. But there is barely an online community, whereas this re-make there will be.

I hope this happens. Skate 4 for next gen would be amazing.

It will also be interesting to see what is next for the Tony Hawk games after this... especially because this sounds like the first good news they've had in a long time.

I love me some skate, but in all honesty, what could they add? The trickbook is already bulging at the sides, the pad couldn't take any more inputs. Flatland tricks are all that is missing at this point, and I literally can't see how they'd squeeze them in there.

I want a version that takes stuff away. I think I had more fun in the original demo at the community centre than I had skating all round town. Better, not bigger for me please!

This needs to have the original soundtracks in place.

So hyped though. The first two TH games were digital crack back in the day. I must've put 30 hours into the PS1 demo alone.

With the HD moniker, I thought this would be a simple, shitty up-render, but if it's a complete remake, then I might just have to jump on this.

so long as they have enough of the original songs from the first two games to make a full soundtrack, that's fine by me. i don't need them to be my favourites either.

Really all the game needs is good custom soundtrack support. Just say "here's a playlist on my Xbox, play one of these songs" and we can just burn off the soundtrack ourselves.

I would accept custom soundtracks for this if they can't get the original one.

Too bad 3 had the best soundtrack.

What was so great about 3?

I'm curious if they'll add revert in this or just keep it like tony hawk 2x was and just have manual.

3 had Alien Ant Farm and AFI on it. It didn't have Superman. How anyone can say 3 has the best soundtrack is crazy to me. 2. 2 had the best soundtrack.

I never played 1 & 2, LOVED 3 & 4.

How I think it's going to play out

What people want
1 & 2 fully remade in HD
Original soundtracks, characters, cheats etc
Added online modes

What we will get
Some levels from 1 & 2 remade
About half of the other original stuff inside
Online scoreboards

If it does well we will get 3 & 4 in HD 2

Uh...what do you think an HD remake is? Current gen graphics, online play.

That's not official as far as I can tell, a reviewer with friends at the company working on the game.

Could easily be right but I'd rather have it in an official press release. At this stage it could be something they remove if they can't get it working properly.

EDIT: After doing some research and seeing they did some of the current gen TH with online I guess it's safe to assume this will have online play, my apologies.

I HAVE to buy this since I've been clamoring for it for such a long time :D. Should be XBLA/PSN though! But I might buy a disc release too. It REALLY needs the original soundtracks though, otherwise no buy.

Yoshichan

And they made him a Lord of Cinder. Not for virtue, but for might. Such is a lord, I suppose. But here I ask. Do we have a sodding chance?
Hohohoh, just spoke to my ol' Tony Hawk buddy (we played an unhealthy amount of TH back in the days) on facebook...

Tony Hawk 1 och 2 Remake på 360/PS3 announced :D Play on release?!

Him: Damn dude!! The same week it's released, SHIIIIIT!

It's unrealistic to expect them to have 30+ licensed songs in a $15 digital download game. It'll probably be a completely new/original soundtrack, like the iOS version was.

There's always custom soundtracks.

I agree but purely because of economics.
No old OST means more $$$.

That being said, those songs aren't exactly highly sought after licenses.

No original sound track no sale. I'm not even fucking joking.
Do it, do. It
1. Buy Soundtrack
2. Play through Dashboard
3. Profit

I hope they have a toggle where you can turn the moveset to just be the original. TH1 levels will be more fun to me if I can turn off the reverts and manuals as it's just too easy to go around the levels and get 50million.

The only thing I ask for is the ability to manual.

Although I guess because this is 1-2 it will have it in. I will be buying this Day 1. THPS 1-3 are a few of my favourite games of all time.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
ACTIVISION'S UPCOMING TONY HAWK'S PRO SKATER HD IS CLASSIC SKATEBOARDING GAMEPLAY, UPGRADED FOR TODAY

The Best Of The First Two THPS Videogames in One Digital Title

Santa Monica, CA – December 12, 2011 – Ridiculously high scoring trick combos return to videogame consoles this summer in Tony Hawk's Pro Skater HD, today announced Activision Publishing Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Activision Blizzard Inc., (Nasdaq: ATVI). Developed by Robomodo, this digital title takes the best elements of the classic THPS games and gives them a fresh update to create an all new skateboarding experience. The game will be available only on leading consoles' networks for about $15.

"We're going back to the core of what made the original Tony Hawk's Pro Skater games so popular, while leveraging today's console power and online capabilities," said Tony Hawk. "We've updated many elements to reflect today's skateboarding scene as well. Long-time fans of the series will appreciate the huge amount of polished content at a very low price."

Tapping into fans' muscle memories, the gameplay in Tony Hawk's Pro Skater HD returns to controllers and focuses on the satisfaction of linking sick tricks for maximum points. Combining sharp visuals with the best controls ever in a Tony Hawk game, the feel is cutting edge yet timeless. Tony Hawk's Pro Skater HD features an eclectic group of today's skateboarding pros, including Nyjah Huston, Chris Cole, Eric Koston, Andrew Reynolds, Rodney Mullen, Lyn-z Adams Hawkins (Pastrana), Riley Hawk, and, of course, Tony Hawk himself.

"Tony is not only a legend in the skateboarding world, he's an American icon that has had a major impact on videogames. We couldn't be happier to be working with him again," said David Oxford, Activision Publishing. "Tony Hawk's Pro Skater HD just feels right – we're simply giving fans what they've been clamoring for."

Would have liked to see Neversoft making it but I dunno, I guess they're still going full steam ahead with some FPS :/ That's gotta be the next gen CoD, right?
