For these, i'm not really going to elaborate on the symbolism or my guesses as to what they are yet, because honestly, I have zero clues as to even what they are, and that would be like a whole other essay of words. There's roses and then a ton of shit I have no idea what it is. Just some brief and general thoughts follow.

Revolutionary Girl Utena 01

I guess this is an interesting way to set up the start of this episode. Utena is cool and collected, and I like how she's just as good as anyone at anything she competes in. Poor Anthy though. I wasn't expecting someone to just get slapped in the face like that right away, and they made it sound painful too.

The "battle" tracks as Utena goes to the forest/arena is pretty awesome too, and I really like the set design for that whole area, not to mention Zettai Unmei Mokushiroku is an awesome song for the area. The whole rules for how the duels work is pretty interesting too. Nobody did any harm to each other and it was more that these fights seem to be about honor and skill for the time being. Oh god, why did they slap her in the face again? The battle itself was short, but it was to the point and the rules of what happens there are pretty clear.

So the student council is a kind of revolutionary organization that wants to change the world somehow? Their introduction speech about the egg and chick is obviously symbolic for what's probably to come, but as to what that will mean, I have no idea. I wonder if End of the World is a character, place, or time? They're getting some kind of missive from whatever it may be, so that'll be cool to find out.

I have no clue what being the bride actually means though. It's kind of weird, but there's gotta be more to it. Chu-Chu is adorable. What's with the shadows before each fight though? Utena plans to throw the duel, but she doesn't. Also, where the hell does Dios/the sword come from? It appears that she channeled the prince somehow, so he's connected to the floating castle, but I have no idea if it's his fighting spirit, he's with her, the ring, or what. Also, I still wonder what the significance of the ring is, considering the student council said that they found them, and Utena was given hers.

As roommates, things seem to be finally settling in between Utena and Anthy, though a good question is brought up by Utena in regards to Anthy's friends, or lack thereof. As Anthy keeps saying she's engaged to Utena, I sometimes question if it has another meaning other than the obvious. Also the whole "OHHHHH UTENAAAAA-SAMMAAAAAA" scene made me laugh. Also, right after that, Kiryruu gets told by Utena, but he seems to have fallen for her, while also discussing keeping the woods a secret.

Why did Anthy get slapped by some bitchy chicks ;_; So depressing. It's good though that that Nanami invited her to the dance party that she was nominated for Dance Queen at. Maybe things are turning around for her?

Ahh, so Nanami is Kiryuu's imouto who seems to be a sort-of bro-con, and seems jealous of Himemiya though. Utena looks cute in a dress. So far the event is going smoothly.

Aww shit, the Dance Queen thing was a setup, and it's a dissolving dress? Fuck this planet. Poor Himemiya ;_; I'm glad that Utena came in like a prince, made that fucking awesome dress in the flick of her arm with a tablecloth, and managed to save the day. No fight in this episode, but it shows the dynamic and evolves the relationship between Utena and Himemiya.

To Nanami: Umad?

Ok, i'll get this out of the way and say that I thought Miki was a chick at first, but I learned that was wrong. He's a pianist, and I remember seeing him at the student council too. Nanami shows up too, tries to get in good with him or something, and gets turned down. Nanami is kinda pissed that Himemiya is in his sheet music, and judging by that, i'm guessing Miki has a thing for her. Miki comes to the house to tutor along with Nanami, who till now isn't suspected of being the bitch that she is.

The comedy in this episode is pretty nice though, and I liked the Trolljou-sama laugh (it may possible be a fetish of mine) that Nanami displays, as well as her plans completely failing by more snails, a mongoose, and a giant inflatable octopus. Miki is probably in love or something at this point; it's pretty obvious. Chu-chu ate the bento, but overall, nanami shouldn't have flipped her shit. The song is somehow related to Miki, which seems to be what he was playing earlier.

Revolutionary Girl Utena 05

Miki tells us his backstory, and what happened on that fateful day to him and his sister back when he was younger. As a result of some of these things and the talks at the piano between the three, Miki's love for Himemiya makes him ask the council to disband to honor her... well, honor.

Dayyyyuuuummmmmmm, Kiryuu got with Miki's sister didn't he? What a pimp, but Utena still pays no attention to him. He agrees to a duel.

As the duel begins, it's clear that Miki is skilled. Only wanting her to protect her feelings/playing was a little weird, but whatever. He also loves her too. It's clear that Utena was definitely att he disadvantage here, but Miki's oversight and reaction to the situation cost him the duel, a mistake I doubt he will repeat.

The resolution of the piano story between Miki and his imouto was resolved as we heard her side of the story, and the world keeps on spinning.

Noooooooo an episode that starts with Nanami. But wait, what's this mysterious figure following her? Could the time for the first death of the show be near? Some of us/me certainly hopes so. That car should've hit her... But who's that mysterious figure? Baseball to the FACE! But it's not Utena out to get her.

Talks of murder begin, and I immediately suspect it's going to be a misunderstanding, and well, it is. Bro-con thinks she got told by her nii-sama, but it's not true!

Oh shit... A HORSE got in the school and almost killed her! It seems her "prince" saved her, so I guess that's another crisis averted, but she seems to have found his name and is on the hunt for her savior... Who is waaaayyyy younger than her. Uh, well, uh, it's a kid and she asked him out. Uh. The girls sum it up the best as "EHHHHHHHH!".

But then Nanami's true colors show, and instead of it being a nice equal relationship, she steps all over him and uses him as her slave. Why is Nanami such a bitch? Also lol at Saionji "Nobody's listening to you." The three suitors get mad at Tsuwabuki, and he beats the shit out of them all, but suffers greatly from it while Nanami just watches like a bitch and doesn't help to resolve it at all. Thank goodness Utena comes in to fix everything, being the bro that she is, which leads to us finding out the real reason why he wanted to "date" her, wanting to be like Kiryuu, and more just a cool guy by stalking Nanami and making danger for her so he could become her savior.

What kids do for love... Though her listening to him speak into a microphone right next to him was kind of funny. What the fuck, where did that kangaroo come from? Nanami magically mans up and saves the kid by running away from the kangaroo, but it's clear she won't make it... until Kiryuu shows up shirtless and in boxing gloves to punch that kangaroo in the face, which soon results int he kid getting dumped.

We reach the episode featuring Juri/Jury now, and her backstory is the most interesting of the three presented so far. The trio and the betrayal within their group was interesting, and though it's typical, it was conveyed convincingly anyways. As Utena get's chewed out for having Chu-chu, we see the manipulative power of the student council. The following scene with the duel and story explanation was only heightened by the awesome knife-throwing skills of Kiryuu.

It's after this we get more backstory. "Believe in miracles and they will know your feelings" Juri cites. But then the very person she's told that by betrays her trust and steals what hope she had for falling in love, for those other two now kiss and things while closing her eyes to the reality, and the two others are bound by the red string of fate.

Here Utena finally tells a council member of why she has the signet ring in the first place. As her and Juri share ideals in a way, I start to think that maybe they both understand each other. Then, when I for some reason think that a yuri make-out scene is going to happen (I wished for it hard), my happy illusion is shattered and Juri becomes a bitch. Utena keeps her ring.

It's time for another duel. Utena is clearly outmatched by the skill of Juri, so things start to not look so good here, but she hangs in there, defending enough to stay on her feet. One thing I enjoyed about this scene was the way the flashbacks emphasized Juri's movements. After that, we see flashes of the prince in Utena, which means something is going to happen. Tension slowly rises as the duel gets ridiculously close, but then the unthinkable happens, and the weapon falls cleanly from the sky, cutting Juri's rose, winning the duel for Utena. What was it that truly caused that?

We start out with Utena and Hime in home ec, but like the trolljou that she is, Nanami and her goons plan to ruin them by giving them hotter spice for their curry, which is accidentally replaced by some of the hottest spice ever known to man. An explosion happens and we get a... Body switching episode. Seeing them act like each other is cool, and Utena being in Himemiya's body is pretty awesome as she beats peoples shit in in everything. Let's see how those bitches like being slapped back!

Pictures are sold as the school falls in love with them, and Nanami and her crew are found to have been behind it by Kiryuu. Nanami and her gang are promptly sent off to India to retrive some more spice as it's nowhere to be found at school.

More body-switching things happen and the adventures in India begin which in turn end up making me laugh a lot over the course of the episode due their the outrageousness and extreme amount of poor luck. Elephants will fuck her shit up.

Utena (in Nanami) is called by Saionji to meet alone, and he doesn't know. Has Himemiya been having sexy time with Saionji? Utena is bashful, and eventually, peeks open her eyes to see his shirt half open and learns of the diary and not things of sexual nature. Plenty of humor happens here, and the response to Saionji by Utena is just great.

Holy shit surfing elephants.

Brown and improved Nanami comes back... Only to get fucked up by slipping on a banana peel and then another elephant comes to blow ALL the spice away, which takes 200 years to produce. Truly, these are dark times, and elephants are everywhere. Nowhere is safe.

Soon we realize that the spice was never used and Nanami's cooking was the cause of all the problems. Utena and Himemiya return to normal, but Chu-Chu and Saionji switch places, leaving me to almost die of laughter.

To be continued when I watch more.
I think i'm secretly starting to like Nanami. I have a thing for Trolljou-samas. I feel betrayed by myself a little.

I am enjoying the show plenty so far.

I've really got to finish Utena, I wonder if that would be wise with Penguindrum also nearing it's climax.

Asks questions so Ezalc doesn't have to
But....breasts

Either the absence of (Loli) or incredible size (Loli with huge boobs) was all I thought was needed to make a great show.

I don't dislike breasts by any stretch. I draw the line at magical swords that are used to "cut" breasts in such a way that make the slashee's breasts smaller and the slasher's bigger. There's just something about that premise that makes my brain hurt.

It's not a magical sword, it's a ninja breast technique.

It sounds way cooler.

I had forgotten about Hugetits. Anybody actually watch it all the way through? Or did everyone decide to wait for uncensored releases?

I think I watched episode 1 uncensored out of curiosity. The lack of 4/5 screen size censor bars make the show unwatchable.

Both. There was an uncensored version of the episodes released a week after the censored ones (like Highschool of the Dead), the censored version covered too much of the screen most of the time so the fansubbers all switched to the uncensored version anyway.

I was surprised how the show had a decent wandering samurai vibe to it, shame the main focal point of the show was a about big boobs and bigger boobs.

Hosoda's new film, Ookami Kodomo no Ame to Yuki, opens July 2012

Yay! I'm always up for Hosoda.

Level E 4

Striking and attractive art style, strong direction with imaginative transitions, good atmosphere building through the course of the story, well-played ending - great stuff.

LoGH Gaiden: A Hundred Billion Stars, A Hundred Billion Lights 1-4

It's wonderful to see Reinhard and Kircheis doing what they do best - outwitting everyone around them. The early part of the main series showed how Reinhard had to combat not only his enemies in front of him, but his superiors behind him, and the isolated setting of this story drives home just how hard he had to work at that to be able to rise through the ranks. A couple of the compositions were slightly awkward, but otherwise I have no complaints.

Hosoda's new film, Ookami Kodomo no Ame to Yuki, opens July 2012

My penguin-bro, let me bring the great message to the world.

mainvisual.jpg

Ookami Kodomo no Ame to Yuki (Ame and Yuki - The Wolf Children) is supposed to be a story about parental love. The story is about a human woman Hana, who is so magnanimous with her love she is like a fairy tale character. She takes it upon herself to bring up two wolf children as her own - Ame and Yuki (Rain and Snow). It is a fantasy masterpiece like the world has never seen because, featuring characters with both humans and wolf faces.

The anime movie is produced by Studio Roadmap, while Studio Madhouse is only in the production committee, so maybe they're assisting.

Director/Script Concept: Mamoru Hosoda
Script: Satoko Okudera
Character Design: Yoshiyuki Sadamoto
Animation Director: Takaaki Yamashita
Art Director: Hiroshi Oono

So it looks like Hosoda's new studio is confirmed, and Madhouse has another 10 nails in its coffin. Lol.

Edit: http://www.oricon.co.jp/news/movie/2004667/full/

There are much more details here. Apparently the story is a 13 year life epic about how the 19 year old Hana meets and falls in love with a Wolf Guy (hopefully not *that* Wolf Guy!) and marries him, gives birth to two kids, and raises them over the years. Crazy furry!

AKB: The Cartoon said:
In an era when entertainment is outlawed, there is an idol group that offers underground guerilla concerts despite the danger. The name of that female group is AKB0048.

Until just before the annihilation of Earth, AKB48 shined as legendary idols.

This is the story of the super galactic idol team that inherited that name.

In the beginning of the 21st century, a world war erupts over interplanetary travel technology. Humanity inflicts large-scale devastation upon the ecosystem and forces itself to make a mass exodus from Earth. In the year Star Calendar 00, a new era begins as humanity migrates to a self-imposed exile in space.

Before long, the tentatively named "Super Galactic Alliance" institutes a "Entertainment Prohibition Law" to control "entertainment and music which corrupts people's minds." Except for certain areas (zones of absolute entertainment defense*), any form of entertainment is strictly punished. One by one, idols disappear, and people's minds are enveloped in darkness.

AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

So the reason why the AKB Idols in the concept art look like pretty decent art, while the actual character designs look like CG garbage... is because the CG idols are from the far future? LOL.

Jury's
arrogance and NOT BELIEVING ENOUGH
. The battles in Utena are not really about combat prowess.

Didn't have much else to watch so I figured I'd give this another go. I really should have given this show more of a chance the first time around. It's extremely well done. There is a respect in many of the interactions between characters that creates a very pleasant atmosphere throughout the show. This pushes the viewer along to want to spend more time with the characters and see where they wind up. Glad I came back to it, because it's really impressing me at every turn.

Good to see you've joined the right side.
