Not that I contribute to this topic or anything, but if FFXIII-2 sells over 550k first week, I'll not post in MC threads for 6 months.

Bingo. Why is Wada not even considering the market when he made such an important anouncement ? If FFX HD PS3 undersells compared to say, FF XII Revenant Wings (which sold 600k on an equivalent userbase and which was probably less costly to realize) I would seriously question his business strategy and if he has a brain at all.

I hate him, he is useless.

I doubt porting a game from PS2 costs anywhere near as much as it does to make a brand new DS game

Edit: If FFXIII-2 does less than Revenant Wings it would be hilarious though

I doubt either version will do as well as revenant wings though together they'll probably outsell it

Two copies sold? That's not a bomb guys, stop trolling!!!
You left out where you say its resellers and amazon.co.jp has it priced the same as usual.

But hey, another round of omg bombas titles getting discounted at amazon lolololol, like we didn't have enough last time with Ninokuni and LBX Boost.

Ah,ok... you're right. Excuse me, guys.

DCharlie

And even i am moderately surprised
Day one second hand copies of ffxii-2 in aki - eek

Jonnyram mentioned it might be profiteering as amazon is 28% off so likely possible to make cash out of selling on.

Could we perhaps be looking at a Spirit's Within level bomb after all?...

What...? Seriously, WHAT?

Are you comparing a game with a movie? And a game made in less than 2 years, re-using most of the FF XIII tools with a movie that sunk in the toilet more than 50 million $ one decade ago provoking the dissolution of Square Pictures and the merge of Square with Enix?

Are we crazy? What's next, Versus XIII cancelled? Erase the FF brand?

I know that's hard for some of you to try hiding your true colours (being apologetic or in a "damage control" position with Zelda: SS and saying Vita & FF doomed among other things) but spreading misinformation and making silly comments/comparisons doesn't bring any good discussion.

At least DCharlie was fun with his crazy predictions, but this? This is no fun. This is nonsense.

I don't know about you, but I'd consider sub 600k sales for a brand new mainline FF game to be a bomb of epic proportions! (re-used assets or otherwise)

You know that the game is multiplatform and will be out in Europe and US next year, right? (I know this is a Media Create thread but we're talking about a comparison with Spirits Within which almost destroyed Square... for god's sake). This game will sell more than 2 million WW for sure and it may be profitable (I don't know the cost of making the game but I know that it won't have a 50m$ loss)

Besides I think that XIII-2 won't sold less than Xillia or Type 0 but we'll see.

And if you consider 600k sales for a brand new mainline FF a bomb of epic proportions I'll be waiting for your comments about the sales of DQ X when it's out ;)

DQ10 will be compared to FF11, atleast that´s what reasonable people will do. FF13-2 will eventualy become a millionseller in Japan but probably underperform compared to other mainline FF games. At the very least it will sell the same as the PSP FF games like Crisis Core and Type-0.

@French
One is an enhanced port for a new system and the other is a new FF game on PS3.

The Spirit's Within is obviously hyperbolic...

Final Fantasy XIII-2 has a worldwide launch. It doesn't need big sales in Japan to be a success.

See? I can play this game too ;)

Oh. Yes, you're right. I totally forgot that Final Fantasy XIII-2 is the first Final Fantasy game ever that will be released in the US and Europe. That will certainly change things.

Nice to meet you Orgen, but... what are you doing ? Final Fantasy XIII-2 is currently obviously missing sales expectations for a mainline title in the series.

Just wondering, why not? It is not that unlikely that it will sell over 550k the first week.

I've been trying to be optimistic about the game, but now I just want it to fail.

Nomura knew what he was talking about when he wanted to do something for the FF series. (Cue FF vs XIII vapoware jokes.)

Is your "less than 600k = bomb of epic proportions" hyperbolic too?

You've missed my point entirely. I was criticizing the absurd comparison made not the XIII-2 sales. It may or may not bomb, I don't care. But Spirits Within level bomb? You have to be kidding me.

What are this sales expectations for a mainline title you are talking about? In Japan? WW? What are the first week numbers for the game in Japan? Heck, what's the shipment? Uh? Do you know it?

For what we know now the game could sell 500k in Japan and 5 million in Europe + US. Would this be a bomb too?

1) you're annoying
1a) there are other examples of bombs this year so far, Ni no Kuni and Zelda come to mind.

2) this is a Japan sales thread. Now please go and found your own forum.

ULTROS!

People seem to like me because I am polite and I am rarely late. I like to eat ice cream and I really enjoy a nice pair of slacks.
For those who are in Japan, how is FFXIII-2 faring? Many buyers? Used game sellers?

1) Thank you but I'm not here to entertain you.
1a) We knew the shipment of Ni no Kuni. And Zelda.

2) So people can talk about the WW sales of Zelda:SS in this Japan sales thread to diminish his bomb sales in Japan and you (and other people) are talking now about bomb sales of FF XIII-2 or "obviously missing sales expectations" when you don't have any numbers to back up your statement? Cool.

3) Thanks for not answering my questions and make my point valid :)

4) Like I said to wrowa you've missed my point entirely.

He's responding to some hyperbolic statements. And this is not your forum and you're not a mod, so don't tell others what they can and what they can't do.

Go down this slope, go on talking about things unrelated to this period and location sales, try to be a cocky poster again and we'll get both banned. You for being OT, me for replying to you.

"Nothing to back up my statement". Explain in what circumstances such a high-profile release doesn't get any press coverage at all. And we all know the shipment number is between 2.0M and 2.2M if it is on par with PS2-era entries in the series. Talking about the shipment figures is superfluous.

Why is he annoying?

I should refrain and this is not my forum, correct. Sorry to preach.

So, your point has nothing to do with what you've written in your post? Okay.

Final Fantasy XIII-2's performance should be evaluated according to the following criteria:

-shipment numbers, which are not known I presume.
-Square Enix expectations... Does someone know them?
-the comparison with the prequel in the light of X-2 did compared to X (I think this can be a good precedent to look at)
-the sales in the West; XIII was not a breakthrough success in Japan but sales overseas offset quite well; if XIII-2 cannot manage at least as much XIII did in proportion among the territories it won't be a good sign.
-anedoctal evidences such as discounts and second-hand market.

I think this can pacify everyone, right?

Banned why? I'm not being more OT than other people here. And if you're scared to be banned for replying to me... you know what you have to do (or not to do in this case) :p

So if a high-profile release doesn't get any press coverage = bomb? And the shipment number is between 2m and 2.2m? Based on the PS2 entries? Really?

So, your point has nothing to do with what you've written in your post? Okay.

What post? This?

I've brought the XIII-2 WW sales point to make clear that the game won't be a Spirits Within level bomb even if the game bombs in Japan.

Or are you refering to this post?

Dragon quest 10 is a subscription mmorpg it doesn't need big sales to be a success

Final Fantasy XIII-2 has a worldwide launch. It doesn't need big sales in Japan to be a success.

See? I can play this game too ;)

My point was that I could be an apologetic for FF too like some people here are apologetic from anything Nintendo related. And if you're looking for the apologetic comment I've made, here you have it (my first post)

Anything else?

Yes, Sales Age is REALLY back.
Yup. This period feels great, maybe there won't be another one that good before we eventually all lose interest in sales threads. Meltdowns, brawls between posters, sudden changes in fortune for several franchises, high-profile releases bombing left and right while others retain or gain strength.

So in this end this is just a "Damn those Nintendo fanboys" argument? Those are so boring :/

By the way, FF XIII-2 doing only 600k in Japan is a bomb of epic proportion. This game isn't a spin-off, it's a mainline title. Doing sub 1 mil would be really bad. And yes, Zelda is doing badly in Japan, the thing is, that franchise doesn't rely on Japan to sell more than a third of its worldwide number. That's a pretty huge difference.

Saying it's Spirit Within level of bad is obvious hyperbole, but I think it was said in jest anyway.

I don't get it.. How FFXIII-2 isn't a spin-off ?
I always saw that as a quick milking of the FFXIII franchise and assets. I may be wrong but maybe i'm not the only one to think that.

And main FF are new settings. FF's direct sequels are perceived as spin-off in general...

It's almost unthinkable to only do that number. How is it even possible? FFXIII Japan numbers were down from previous games but no where near to this extent.

You're not alone. I don't think XIII-2 is part of the main Final Fantasy series.

Since you're here, I'll ask it: have you been secretly approached by Retro to be a level design consultant for the next Metroid/Zelda ? :p

back to the topic: Super Mario Galaxy 2 was no spin-off, we can safely assume that any FF _-2 isn't either. Calling a sequel a spin-off is a bit of stretch (me think).

Hm you must be confusing me with someone else or you don't know what level design means :p

Regarding FF, you can't compare it to Mario galaxy... There are no sequels to FF's main entry in general. FFX-2 was perceived as a niche game with cosplay and j-pop all around... (by me at least :p).
