Media Create Sales: Week 50, 2011 (Dec 12 - Dec 18)

Two copies sold? That's not a bomb guys, stop trolling!!!
Late to this one, but it would probably help if retailers actually displayed lower profile software - the reports on these threads seem to suggest that the "big three" are getting the lion's share of shelfspace.

The fact is that we've seen various 3DS third party software doing well. Not only at launch.

Totals through Famitsu datas thanks to Gamedatamuseum

[3DS] One Piece: Unlimited Cruise SP (Bandai Namco) - 76.578 / 189.857 / 40,33% 26/05/11

This will probably be over 200k when December is done...very good for being a compilation of the 2 UC with Marineford as bonus

[3DS] Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D (Capcom) - 61.306 / 118.117 / 51,90% 02/06/11

120-130k at Christmas are possible, and it could sell something more.

[3DS] Senran Kagura (Marvelous Entertainment) - 53.951 / 61.139 / 88,24% 22/09/11

A surprise. Chris even reported people actually bought 3DS for it. Considering the kind of title it is, it did great.

[3DS] Nicola Kanshuu: Model Oshare Audition 2 (Alchemist) - 6.467 / 6.467 / 100,00% 03/11/11

Week of 3D Land, it debuted 11k less than the prequel, but I think it's obvious since the prequel was released in 2010, on DS. And then, it sold 104k as LTD.

[3DS] Dragon Quest Heroes: Rocket Slime 3 (Square Enix) - 45.529 / 80.585 / 56,50% 02/11/11

This should have legs and legs, and it already started demonstrating them, at least for Famitsu

Then we have things such as Shin Chan debuting at 36 for MC

[NDS] Crayon Shin-Chan: Arashi no Yobu - Nutte Crayon Daisakusen! (Banpresto) - 30.648 / 131.696 / 23,27% 21/03/07
[NDS] Crayon Shin-Chan: Arashi no Yobu - Cinema Land DS (Banpresto) - 28.635 / 121.526 / 23,56% 20/03/08
[NDS] Crayon Shin-Chan: Obaka Daininden - Susume! Kasukabe Ninja Tai! (Bandai Namco) - 14.120 / 74.181 / 19,03% 18/03/10
[NDS] Crayon Shin-Chan: Arashi no Yobu - Nendororo n Daihenshin! (Bandai Namco) - 13.864 / 68.806 / 20,15% 19/03/09
[NDS] Crayon Shin-Chan: Shokkugan! Densetsu o Yobu Omake Daiketsusen!! (Bandai Namco) - 10.038 / 44.889 / 22,36% 02/12/10

The last one debuted with 10k, and while this probably did half as that, it'll have better legs.

Or Sonic debuting at 48, better than the 360 version (...and this underlines how much is dead software wise 360, but still :p )

I included also those first two since technically they can be considered low profile software...

But, there have been other games not even doing top 50: the Kunio-Kun remake, or Shinobi, or... PES 2012.

Yeah, there's a problem about very little software releases (...and PES 2012 ), and it's obvious that the big three are playing a role in this. I still see in the Famitsu database done by Chris and which I update almost constantly that DS, in these times in 2005, had the double of titles in top30, not even counting top 50.

Maybe, it's due to the much much stronger competition, since at those time, apart from PS2, there were a PSP with only MHP, while now 3DS titles have to "fight" against PSP games, PS3 releases and the Wii evergreen...and the big three. So, they're much more ignored for this.

However, I hope lower profile titles, as already happened on the platform with various results, find a space in the 3DS software universe; I hope to see the little games selling even surprising who made them...this should happen from January, when the big three will lower their sales, and there will be much more audience on the platform...and while it's crowded of notable releases, they're not as monstrous as MH, MK and 3D Land.

And even i am moderately surprised
Sales of Vita are roughly in line with other recent launches, i just don't see what the hur hur is that cheaper machines with richer libraries are selling more during the holiday period.

Did people expect the Vita to sell 500k-600k week one or something? I though the prediction thread had most people hitting the mid-to-top 300k range - in which case it's hit most of GAF expectations.

This should have legs and legs, and it already started demonstrating them, at least for Famitsu

I love Slime Mori Mori with every bone in my body, but i'm expecting the wheels to fall off it. The number of 2nd hand copies out there is shocking (i'll photograph but it's the most returned game in the local stores by far) - whilst anecdotal and i personally hope the game starts picking up, i'm afraid this one is going to have the legs of our wee blue hero and expecting it to get carried along on the upsurge of units wagon maybe a bit of a stretch. (see what i did there?! x4)

when the 700k shipment number came in, some said that the number would be around that range and not mid-to-low 300k. wasn't a whole lot of people, but i wasn't paying a whole lot of attention either.

The disappointing thing is that Vita doesn't seem to have gotten any bump from launching in the holidays. Additionally, given its dubious prospects in the west, it really needs to light it up in Japan to establish itself as a viable platform for the long haul.

Maybe it did - bearing in mind what it's up against (high entry price once things are factored in, resurgent 3DS that's realistically half it's price with at least 3 AAA+ games) this maybe WAS the bump. We shall see - it's difficult to tell how things will pan out.

Japan will have just had it's 20th Dec Xmas pay day as well - so this week will be pretty telling. There's still stock everywhere (i'm not even seeing that much Wifi only shortage) so it could get interesting.

Anyways, i don't think ultimately this xmas will be the measure - it'll be during the year and leading up to 2012 xmas. But if things start to look bumpy after the western launches i just wonder what 3rd parties will start doing especially if 3DS continues to sell. Despite the tech differences between the two, it'd be a lot easier for 3rd parties to move games to 3DS than it was for PSP to DS.

It's not really equivalent to the Versus situation or within the bound of my question (games that were revealed one way and then upgraded to the main series later), but still interesting. Thanks for digging up the cite.
I was reading GIA back in the days. If you did too you know it's legendary. ;)

That is a fascinatingly certain prediction. Give me numbers. How well does Versus do lifetime now? How well does it do lifetime if it's renamed to XV?
I expect it to return to form. Obviously it would need to beat XIII-2 but I think it could gain on XIII as well.

Basically everything about Versus tells the audience that it's different from XIII and XIII-2 and more akin to previous FFs. It's darker, less JPOPy, has the necessary slashable cast and for people who are interested in the staff, Nomura directing and Nojima writing will also reconcile fans. Versus's creative starting point is FFVII, obviously, so it has the best chances of BEING the closest thing we'll get to a FFVII remake.

Maybe I just haven't been paying close enough attention to Versus but... uh, really? I wouldn't anything you just said is accurate?!

I really don't know how to respond to this other than agreeing with you, that yes, you probably haven't been paying close attention to Versus. If you care to elaborate how my statements are supposed to be inaccurate I'll explain more though.

Today was the peak of holidays.

According to many retailers 3DS>>everything else
Everything back to stock for Vita except for 32GB memory cards
PSP was purchased from many kids as a holiday gift
Just Dance could face supply problems due to high demand

If PSP beats Vita, GAF will riot.

It's still a fun party game and they put some effort into localizing it at least.

Edit:Well it's published by Nintendo though...

Nono, it's just a different game from the original, with all the japanese songs (especially AKB48) in it. Yes, Nintendo almost did the game for itself. And it's published by Nintendo.

4 millions of 3DS in Japan, here we come!

Still, the new songs might have been Nintendo's idea but it was developed by Ubisoft Paris. There's songs from JD and JD2 in it too.

But yeah, nintendo did a really nice job with that game in order to turn it into a success.

They will make iOS games obviously.

Not in Japan. Besides, most of GAF hated the 3DS at that time.

I see :p Most of GAF hates everything these days, to be honest. I'm sure if every console sold 5 units in Japan next week a lot of people would "LOL" for days until they realize that there won't be any games or consoles to play if sales go badly :D

3DS's recent three hot games in comparison to the earlier ones:
2011-12-31

It's going to look like a Brontosaurus in the end.

Bwahahaha, my joke prediction of a 500k LTD for Just Dance is likely to happen.

It was a joke prediction?

Does Nintendo's 16 million 3ds forecast include their launch shipment? They sold 3.6 million units that were part of last fiscal year so I'm wondering if that is included.

It doesn't include launch, since it didn't launch this fiscal year. They'd actually have a chance if it had included that.

I wonder how successful Animal crossing 3ds will do. I personally don't believe sales will come anywhere near the ds game. The last game was in 2008 so maybe there will be some pent-up demand for a new Animal crossing, who knows.

Really depends on how much new content that put in the game.

If they use streetpass in a cleverway it will do millions

Streetpass in japan actually works and animalcrossing is like made for streetpass

The thing is they've established lots of good ideas in other games/apps that would be cool in some form in Animal Crossing. Things like Communities, SwapNote, Find Mii/Puzzle Mii sort of functionality with villagers...and yet I doubt any things of that sort will be in the game

Animal Crossing will do well no matter what. No need to worry about that.

While ACCF sold well, ACWW sold significantly more than it by 3 times (worldwide). Although, not entirely sure if the low sales (by comparison to ACWW) of ACCF was due to the lack of new exciting content. So I'm probably just saying nothing.

Sales aside, I really hope Nintendo makes AC 3DS great. ACCF was fun for a while but it felt too much of an enhanced port. Even the music was the same, just touched up.

That's the difference between hand-helds and home consoles in Japan.

I think AC 3ds will be different and will sell very well, better than CF, but AC can never change enough to meet fan demands. In the end you're still planting and picking stuff and doing lots of collecting and after dozens of hours of doing so from one AC to the next its seems like people just burn out on the core gameplay which isn't going to change.
