Still inoperable 48 hours later *sigh*

Apparently the Maintenance will last for 72 hours.

I think at this point an FNG must have tripped over the power cable and they're waiting for a PSU to be shipped in :lol

What exactly DOES our live money go towards funding? Thats a shitload of cash.

Not saying Live isn't profitable, I'm pretty sure it is and considerably so, but it's more than just paying to play online.

Look at the shit awful console alternatives. If the money wasn't there Live would be as terrible at those other "services".

Yeah, steam is a giant shithole.

I'd play a lot more XBC Halo 2 if it didn't take so much effort. Have the benefits even come out from shutting it down yet? I noticed my dashboard has more ads now and the marketplace has a inception system going on.

BB posting in a HaloGAF thread? That's a rare sight :)

I'm a lurker by trade. I can't remember if I posted in the Anniversary thread about how bummed I was that the game used such lame menus when all the 360 Halos had the most epic wide scale planetscapes with tiny, pure class lettering. But I thought it.

Yeah, steam is a giant shithole.

And there's PSN on the other side of the spectrum. The increase in Xbox live price probably had to do with the increase of services that are on Xbox live or are coming in the near future. You can bet your bottom dollar that companies like Comcast, Verizon, and HBO didn't put their services on Xbox live for free.

Don't remember seeing it, but I get ya, the menu's for the 3 non-remake Halo 360 games were indeed pretty fantastic.

Obviously Anniversary's was a call back. Shame it had such an ugly version of the ring. #willNeverForgive

Yeah, I see the logic. I just dreamed of this fully coherent visual experience to play the whole saga someday.

Unlikely I suppose, but a kid can dream.

I mean, Steam relies heavily on Windows right now, but not completely. I'm talking years and years from now. Maybe they could partner with Apple.

If Valve wants to de-value the worth of an average video game to pennies and take a 30% cut of $1 games instead of $40 games then sure.

Folks paints Microsoft as some kind of kind of horrible company but Microsoft has at least helped develop and define the gaming industry and make it stronger whilst Apple is busy dismantling it and attempting to reduce it to shit.

eh...Iphone > kinect

I wouldn't discount the impact of the iPhone for gaming, but I think it's the creation of a new market for the most part, maybe pulling from the mobile market like the DS/Gameboy or PSP, but I don't see it as much of an impact or change on the console gaming industry or its development.

About the menus, it made sense for 343 to stick with the original menu, and was also interesting to show how far Bungie came with the menu UI. Reach's is fucking perfect. There are plenty of games out there now that still have odd and frustrating menu UI's, Bungie's is fantastic. Everything makes sense, you know how to do everything without ever using it before. Simple, straight forward, and especially in Reach's case beautiful to look at.

What I meant is that you need a Windows or Mac system to actually play the games on Steam. And since Microsoft already has an interest in the console space...

None whatsoever. Just a lame excuse for cutting off support for the original Xbox, and since they can't specifically allow Halo 2 on but not allow original Xboxes to connect, it had to go down with the ship.

Hell, the messaging interface STILL tells you "original Xbox gamers might not be able to read this message". No shit.

While Live costs $50 a year, Iphone still costs ~150 per month. lol

But man, its too bad kinect sold well, because it was an absolute disaster. There's literally no good software for Kinect, and the technology is trash. I hope it dies ASAP and I'm sorry for the people that actually paid for one.

I don't think this is what you're referring to, but it made me think of it. MS has promised significant Xbox Live integration with Windows 8. It will be interesting to see what it is and how it's setup.

The software for Kinect is poor, but I wouldn't say the tech is trash. It's pretty nice to use with the new dashboard, and has potential to be used in some cool ways. Screaming "grenade" at Halo is not one of those ways though.

(I didn't pay for my Kinect though.)

I hear the input lag is unbearable (via Ghaleon)

Input lag kills games for me. Thats why onlive was DOA, reach firefight sucks, uncharted 3 needed a patch, and its one of the reasons why why kinect is doomed.

Haven't really used it for games, just the dashboard and apps for the most part.

I'm sure that a new version of it will come with the next Xbox, and it should be much better, so hopefully they can significantly reduce that input lag.

Steam console = The Big Picture. Prepare your heatsinks and fans, because your tv room is about to get a fucking huge, loud PC in it.

Personally, I'm not interested in it. I switch between PC and Xbox depending on my mood, and it's a lot easier for me to be immersed in an Xbox game because I'm prone to alt-tabbing (Starcraft 2 thought ahead by disabling it and Windows key!).

Would be amazing if they had a $5 Halo 2 sale on Steam... (I know it would never happen but Fable III!) but it would boost the numbers for a couple months or at least one. Would be fun.
