Don't talk in spanish in a japanese-sales thread!!!

:p

So is there a thread for that famitsu sales thing?

Not usually, since the numbers are from this week's thread (week 51); so aside confusion and difference in the numbers; there's nothing new per se.

Dammit, I speak french but couldn't even begin to understand what mpl90 wrote. Italian and French are bros like Mario & Luigi for instance.

This is the thread.

4gamer's doing the numbers at 15:00 JST.

MH3P @ 30th with 22K units, at that rate somewhere around 15-20K for mingol6 (37th on media create) would seem to be fairly reasonable, esp since MHP3 was 34th on media create's charts.

Wow, pretty late then. That's a little over 4 hours from now correct?

Japan totally lazying out this week. Last year we already had the 2010 Report by now.

MHP3rd is effectively the best selling game of 2011 in the Famitsu calendar:

[PSP] Monster Hunter Freedom 3 (Capcom) {2010-12-01} - 1,144,338+ / 4,625,327+
[3DS] Mario Kart 7 (Nintendo) {2011-12-01} - 1,082,391 / 1,082,391
[3DS] Super Mario 3D Land (Nintendo) {2011-11-03} - 1,042,511 / 1,042,511
[3DS] Monster Hunter Tri G (Capcom) {2011-12-10} - 809,322 / 809,322

But it won't appear as such because Famitsu won't combine the different SKUs:

[3DS] Mario Kart 7 (Nintendo) {2011-12-01} - 1,082,391 / 1,082,391
[3DS] Super Mario 3D Land (Nintendo) {2011-11-03} - 1,042,511 / 1,042,511
[PSP] Monster Hunter Freedom 3 (Capcom) {2010-12-01} - 1,021,253+ / 4,502,242+
[3DS] Monster Hunter Tri G (Capcom) {2011-12-10} - 809,322 / 809,322
.
.
.
[PSP] Monster Hunter Freedom 3 [PSP the Best] (Capcom) {2011-09-22} - 123,085 / 123,085

I did. It worked. It makes no sense.

When that happens, it's usually because the referer string that the browser sends the website is being read, and the website decides it doesn't like it. When you enter the URL manually (or paste it in), and hit enter, the referer string is blank, because the string is the website you clicked the link from (and, in that case, you didn't click the link).

doing my part to help the record stay mighty and unchallenged for as long as time itself exists

Damn, only three million sellers this year ? That must be a record low.

I don't think that'll happen without a discounted re-release. But if they do one late this year, it could go well beyond 2 million.

Yeah, I think it needs a Best version to get there (which is what I meant when I said "all said and done").

I think that version will hit in the summer myself. Imagine if it included a MH4 demo :O

Wii- not enough support to make a million seller
360- lol
PS3- Can't really make million sellers
NDS- Too late units lifetime, and no huge franchise release.
PSP- Monhun
3DS- Not a huge userbase, will only have million sellers of massive franchises

Seems right now.

The lowest on record is 1996 with 2 (Super Mario RPG came really close with 996k). Then 2002, 2005 and 2011 with 3 each.

Yeah, it's been clearly a sort of transition year.
No Pokémon, no mainline/remake Dragon Quest, Wii out of steam, 3DS and Vita too young, DS and PSP too old. Hope this year will be better.

I've always sort of wondered, why isn't there a weekly Famitsu sales thread instead of, or in addition to, the MC threads? Is it just because Media-Create comes out sooner?

MC numbers come a week sooner and a second thread would be kinda redundant I guess, the numbers are rarely dramatically different.

Wastes hours checking old Famitsu software data, but that's why we love him.

Yes, although it has been scientifically proven that Famitsu has the superior numbers.

Funny to see how in some forums I read, people were stating that M-C numbers are official, while Famitsu are unreliable. Guess who.

Wildly confused Media Create apologists?

Both sample the market with not too different marketshare. Famitsu can be a little more hardcore oriented, at times, and Media Create can be a little more mainstream store oriented, at times. However, both are "reliable" in the sense that their numbers are based off of real data with real statistcal validity.

Dengeki's really out there, though. *nods head*

When I started lurking here, people would occasionally bring up that Media Create's number for amount of GameCubes sold happened to exceed what Nintendo actually shipped. Has Famitsu ever been called out in a similar fashion?

(I'm not implying that the above story makes Famitsu more reliable than Media Create)

Media Create adjusted their numbers, as every tracker does, but we didn't have access.

Not so blatantly, but they have gone back and upped sales from time to time. Usually high-selling Nintendo games. e.g. Pokemon Red/Green/Blue's last weekly ranking was 5.6m for the Jan. 3-9, 2000 week. It's LTD at a later published 1997 Top 100 was 5.66m.

Media Create also had the LTD of Dragon Quest VII higher in its weekly total than the shipped amount, at one point, though. They've both gone back and readjusted from time to time, then. :)

Pre-2003 Famitsu is full of hiccups, especially for hardware figures. They were significantly retroactively adjusted, specially for the PS1 and PS2, to the point the weekly sales numbers we have for those years are basically make believe by now.

Another Pokemon example is Gold and Silver, which disappeared from the top 30 with 5.5 million in Oct, 2000 but ended up the year with 6 million without charting in the top 30 again.

Well, before they were full of them, after then it's just occasionally. =P

Speaking of hardware figures:

- Chris, do you mind checking your Famitsu LTD for DSi + DSiLL. For week 51 I have 8244751; you have 8241178. Edit: I went back to check and we started diverging this week.

Edit2: I checked geimin and found weeks 2011-07-18 and 2011-11-07 have different numbers from the ones posted online:

2011-07-18: 11141 -> 7568
2011-11-07: 2438 -> 1457

Bleh...

- Joshua, Garpah is missing DSi's Famitsu sales for this week - 2343 (which I discovered because I went to compare our figures).
