Press release:

NAMCO BANDAI GAMES TO RELEASE ARMORED CORE® V

ON MARCH 20, 2012

The Fight for Humanity Comes to the U.S. This Spring

SAN JOSE, Calif., (January 12, 2012) NAMCO BANDAI Games America Inc. today announced ARMORED CORE® V will be released on March 20, 2012 in North America and on March 23, 2012 in Europe for the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft and PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system. Developed by the acclaimed FromSoftware, Inc., ARMORED CORE V will bring the most intense and strategic mech battles yet to the veteran series.

The ARMORED CORE® franchise is renowned in the mech action genre for its intense battles and customization options. ARMORED CORE V revolutionizes the series with massive online multiplayer battles designed around huge team-based skirmishes on a grand scale, a robust offline mode, and a completely new atmosphere. Featuring mechs or "Armored Cores" that are customized for more strategic gameplay, ARMORED CORE V focuses on tactics and effectively utilizing the geography of a level to maximize the devastating effects of attacks. Players will be able to customize their Armored Core with countless unlockable parts creating their own personal weapons of mass destruction.

"Gamers have been eagerly anticipating the release of ARMORED CORE V, which will bring strategic mech combat to new heights," said Eiichi Nakajima, studio head, FromSoftware, Inc. "With cooperative missions, a persistent online world battling for territories and epic team battles, ARMORED CORE V is the complete action shooter package."
The all new Operator Mode gives one player a leadership role by being able to supply his Armored Core teammates with enemy positions, movements and details.

"A quick trigger finger and razor-sharp reflexes won't always turn the tide of battle in ARMORED CORE V," said Carlson Choi, Vice President of Marketing, NAMCO BANDAI Games America. "The Operator adds a new layer of strategy orchestrating his team of Armored Cores to victory by finding the enemy's weaknesses."

NAMCO BANDAI Games America Inc. also confirmed today that ARMORED CORE fans pre-ordering the title from GameStop® stores across North America, as well as GameStop.com, will gain exclusive access to the 'HEAVY ASSAULT PACK' while supplies last. The pack will include additional weapons and parts that will help give players a competitive advantage on day one in the innovative and sophisticated online multiplayer battles of ARMORED CORE V.

ARMORED CORE V will be available throughout North America on March 20, 2012. For more information on the game, as well as information on additional pre-order promotions, please visit: http://namcobandaigames.com/console/armored-core-5 and http://www.facebook.com/armoredcore.

If the preorder parts are just early unlocks, consider me slightly miffed. If they're exclusive, that's really, really bad.

I think either way it is fucking awful, especially the marketing of it. The press release is basically advertising the fact that they're intending to give customers who pre-order the game at a specific retailer a competitive advantage via DLC in a mainly multiplayer game.

I'm honestly really disgusted.

Sigh. Fuck you DLC.

I don't know if I should import it in two weeks or wait til March... I'll probably just wait.

Truly innovative multiplayer.

"A quick trigger finger and razor-sharp reflexes won't always turn the tide of battle in ARMORED CORE V," said Carlson Choi, Vice President of Marketing, NAMCO BANDAI Games America, "sometimes it will be that ridiculously overpowered weapon or item that you got for preordering the game from your local Gamestop®."

Will be getting it day one but I really hope that that DLC pack is only a timed release. If pre-orders get permanent exclusive access to better weapons than everyone else then I don't know what to say.

I always forget about this game until a thread pops up.

I really hope this game builds a decent community. Add another game to my list I'm getting this year.

Knowing Scamco the Gamestop DLC will be available a week after launch at $7.99 per item.

But seriously this pre-order garbage (especially Gamestop) is really really tired at this point. I wouldn't buy it there if they had a special pre-order mech designed by Kawamori.

...ok maybe then I would. But otherwise, screw thyself gamestop!

everybody's little from software has truly hit the US big leagues ;_;

Think this has more to do with Namco than it does with From software. I wish they would have stuck with Atlus after Demon's Souls, then crap like this would not be happening.

Isn't Namco bigger that Atlus. At the end of the day, it's better they have the increased exposure, Scamco or not. I mean, DaS might not have made the impact it did with a smaller publisher.

So how are the Amored Core games? Will I like them if I consider myself both a Gundam and Front Mission fan?

I've never played AC before. Worth investigating the earlier games? I'm not even totally sure what they are.

You play missions, get money to buy parts, build a robot, and go out on more missions to blow stuff up. In most of the games there's also a side thing where you can challenge other mercenaries/Ravens/NEXTs (basically named pilots) and try to beat the top ranking pilots. There isn't really a story (you're a mercenary for hire being given missions by the various companies of the world), but it's a lot of fun regardless.

They're pretty fun. The designs and customization options are pretty cool, and the game does a good job of making you feel awesome in a few missions (like boosting through the ocean dodging missiles to take out a single ship). Design wise, some mechs are more similar to the Wanzers from FM3 (only FM I've played) than Gundams, but in gameplay feel like they possess the mobility of the latter. I really enjoy the series since first playing it on the PS, and while I'm not a huge fan of everything about the new games (like the Arms Forts fights), it's still a fun series to play.

So it's like... a shooter or something? Which AC games are worth it?

its like Gran Turismo of Mech Combat games. lots of neat customization stuff and cool battles. Armored Core For Answer brings the pizzazz though. I found that to be the most fun one of all.

http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=...lrXmDQ&usg=AFQjCNGjKb_cnVE_wtx9cPYolzvD893ijg apologies if link doesn't work. I'm on an iPad At the moment.

You control a robot (an Armored Core) from a third person perspective and you can equip it with different types of weapons that would change how you fight. Things like rifles would keep you at a distance while energy blades would allow you to go up close. You get a weapon slot in each hand, missiles on your shoulders, and cannons on your back so you can play both a ranged, melee, or mix. If you don't want weapons everywhere, you could also slot in more supportive parts like flares for missiles, radar range extender, energy packs, or shields.

There's also a boost mechanic which you need to dodge missiles and shots from enemies, especially if your mech is built with light armor. Heavier ACs have more armor (health), lower mobility, but have a higher carry load so you can bring more weapons in, while light ACs are the opposite. You could also use boosting to be aggressive and close in on enemies.

There's Armored Core 4 and Armored Core For Answer for the 360 and PS3. For Answer is the most recent version of the game before ACV.

hmm seems like mostly extra non in-game stuff like CDs,posters, etc.

The Demon's Souls Collectors edition was greatly superior to the Dark Souls one, especially because Namco kept downgrading the CE for Dark just a month or so before release of the game.

If your trying to argue that Atlus rips of their consumers like Namco does, I think thats going to be a tough sell. Especially when in this case it's a situation where the pre-order bonus here is supposed to give people a "Competative Edge"

While I wholeheartedly agree how lame it is that they're doing the exclusive DLC thing, I hope you guys aren't expecting fair and balanced online multiplayer.

Glad they're slowing it down from AC4A at least, though. Might help with the lag problems.

will there be much of a single player mode (ie like Demon Souls) or is most of the game multiplayer?

ie - is this game worth it for a single player like me?
