Any word on original compositions?

The show will obviously have background music, which is composed by Yoko Kanno. The performances will all be existing music though, since the story isn't about people who are writing music, but rather people who love Jazz and want to perform it. It makes sense that in such a scenario, they would be performing existing songs which were popular in the 60s.

Not sure about the OP/ED, but the official site has some information about what to expect from the music in the show itself. They's taking the music element very seriously, and the songs performed in the various episodes will be actual well known Jazz pieces.

Takashi Matsunaga will be performing on classical piano, while Shun Ishikawa is the drummer. Yoko Kanno is overseeing the production of the performances of course.

Some tracks they listed include Moanin’, My favorite things, and Someday My Prince Will Come.

Interesting. Thanks for the info.

Oh, thank goodness. We've needed more Watanabe. I'll definitely being keeping my eyes on this one.

Sort of surprised with the setting, but I know it will be great.

I'll watch it... but...

Space Cowboys to hip hop Samurai to school kids? I'd rather him tackle another unique project than go with the trends.
Apollon is against the trends.

Hopefully there will be lots of it. I loved the soundtrack for Bebop and listen to pieces from it nigh weekly.

Because Yoko Kanno

Kanno's been around all this time and anime has still been dead. Watanabe is the savior.

Yeah, Kanno is a really good composer and music producer, but her output is still largely determined by what the director wants and how he uses it. Watanabe is someone who we know for a fact prioritizes the use of music in his works above most other elements, and he has a very good ear for sound. Their collaborations are always pretty amazing.

Do we have access to ratings numbers? I was just going by DVD/BD sales since that was the easiest numbers to find

HnC pulled in like 3% average overall.

AnoHana/C (fucking doubles) hit a high of like 3.9% . . . don't remember what the average was, I'll need to look for it.

e: welp, there's a pic above.

They'd better have some awesome original saxophone and piano tracks. I will be disappointed if there isn't something like this.

I'm cautiously optimistic. Hopefully it's as good as Samurai Champloo and not Cowboy Bebop.

No.

Didn't like Cowboy Bebop much :x Samurai Champloo was great though.

Samurai > Space Pirates
They were Space Cowboys/girls what the fuck man. Samurais are great and all and Nujabes is glorious, but Jazz and space are better than old Japan and hip-hop.

Oh wow, that looks amazing. Will watch anything by Watanabe, especially anything with the words "fights" and "jazz" in the descriptions.

Then you need to know that for those of us who still watch the noitaminA slot, we have no expectations anymore. ANYTHING would be better than the last 2 seasons.

That's all good, but I was addressing the dudes who don't seem to watch anime very regularly and are expecting the best show of the decade. Not saying that it can't be, but damn lower the bar a bit.
