hey this is pretty good!

and let's not forget the download sales hehehe

In the top 50, there's only Minna no Golf 6, 31st, for Vita. Yes, Wipeout didn't even do top 50.

Wii - 12
3DS - 12
PSP - 10
PS3 - 9
NDS - 5
360 - 1
Vita - 1

Wow, no top 50 is strange, considering it sold out at a lot of places near me on release (and Amazon even sold out of their own copies). I guess each place must have only received a couple copies >.>

Wipeout + Japan = <1k sales kind of game.

It's almost like that in the US too. Didn't the last PSP one sell like 11k total in the NPD?

I honestly have no idea why Sony keeps making games in the series. I mean, they're REALLY REALLY GOOD games quality-wise, so it's almost like they're just making them for charity/goodwill at this point.

I wonder if the 3DS will pass 5mil by its 52nd week. This weeks numbers will be the deciding factor I guess.

This whole strategy never made any sense to me. You know going in that the early tie ratio is going to be somewhere around 1. So if you know you are only going to sell 500k hardware units, what the hell is the point of jamming 23 titles in there at launch. All that was ever going to happen was 500k units of software getting spread out amongst 20+ titles instead of 500k units getting spread out amongst 7 or 8 titles.

Why not just launch 7 or 8 titles, and then release 2 or 3 more games every week, instead of going a month with nothing. At least then those 2 or 3 titles each week will have a chance at a little exposure, at least for that week of release. As it is, the top few games took all the sales (as they would have done anyway with a much smaller launch lineup), and the bottom 15 titles ended up with absolutely nothing.

This whole strategy never made any sense to me.

given everyone seems to want a Vita when it bombas and price crashes, i'm not so sure Sony aren't making sense.

People seem to want it (or enjoy trolling) , just not at the price at the moment. Regardless of anything, it won't be that price forever.

Are there any upcoming titles that will spur Vita sales?

there's a stream of games coming out that will appeal to established gamers, but nothing much to bring in the wider crowd.

Why not just launch 7 or 8 titles, and then release 2 or 3 more games every week, instead of going a month with nothing

... they launched around xmas and people need a holiday in these companies? Plus you need as wide a variety as possible from the off to try and gain as many gamers as you can.

it's a game or two every week it seesm from now on though. between this and the 3ds my handheld library is getting messy.

ummm - okay?

I was actually referring to the strategy of jamming 20+ games into launch day, as opposed to going with a more modest (in terms of quantity) launch lineup, followed by a steady stream of releases in the following weeks.

I'm not sure what you were referring to.

MHTriG seems to have really good legs to hang with MK7 and 3D Land, it saw an even smaller percentage drop than MK7. Are these kind of legs typical for a portable MH game? Not talking about numbers but percentage wise.

Okay, now I see you added this in later.

But yeah, I'm referring to the general populace - not that small handful of zealous nuts such as yourself that buys everything under the sun! :)

Really though, there was no benefit to Sony. They were going to sell those 300-350k units launch week with or without those bottom 10-15 titles. And having a steady stream of releases for the next 4 or 5 weeks following launch may have (probably not much, but it couldn't have hurt) helped maintain momentum a little better following that opening week.

And for the publishers, unless you are one of the higher profile titles, being there for the holidays won't help one iota if you have a smaller title being thrown out there with 20+ other games on the same day. That's the definition of getting lost in the crowd.

Well, i think they wanted to spread gun the audience and see what happened. I don't think it would have made that much difference in the long run, but i guess we'll never know either way.

But to clarify my other point : A lot of people seem to be saying they'll get a Vita "when it bombs" (price cut - or inevitable price reduction over time) and i think that is in part to do with it having a good (if lacking an S+ GREAT MASS APPEAL game) library from the outset.

Or not... lol.

I'm pretty sure the series sells well in Europe, I am also sure the PSP one (Pulse) sold far more than only 11k in the US lol.

Nintendo's Pro Bono PR Firm
This situation is unsustainable for Sony and its ecosystem. It is evident Vita will also receive a massive price cut within the next 6 months.

cw_sasuke

If all DLC came tied to $13 figurines, I'd consider all DLC to be free
So next fiscal year we will get a new 2D Mario plattformer, a Revision (?), Pokemon main title (?), Animal Crossing and Tomodachi Collection 2. And maybe MH 4, if Capcom is ready to release it in Q4 of their FY.

3DS second holiday season could become even stronger if Nintendo plays their cards right. Sony better have "fixed" their Vita software situation by then.

The Vita situation is really scary for Sony I imagine. They know it needs to be cheaper after the 3DS fiasco but they are so focused on profitability this time around that to get it even to the 3DS Price range would mean massive losses.

Software is a hard one for them because 99% of their support is gonna come from Japan anyways and with a resurgent 3DS its likely Developers who were weakly supporting the 3DS while doing the wait and see are likely to fully commit again.

Sony must get Western Developers on board even if it means large moneyhats

Large moneyhats for ports? What's the point?

Western pubs aren't going to spend PS3/360-lite budgets to make AAA exclusive handheld titles with their top teams. It's just not happening - even with large moneyhats. At best, you might get the publisher's C-level dev studio working on some spin-off title to a big brand. Either that or you'll be getting ports of the PS3/360 games. But there's no point dropping large moneyhats for ports that will sell better on PS3/360 anyway.

Since it's until 01/01/2012, this consider the first three weeks for Vita.
And seeing Minna no Golf total, these should be MC datas: in fact, for Famitsu, MNG6 started with 52k and reached the 94k only last week, as seen in the top 30. Instead, Media Create reported a 61k debut. Ridge Racer :lol

Well, Gundam SEED Battle Destiny comes out March 29 so there's that for Vita to look forward to. It won't be huge given it's a series exclusive Gundam game, but SEED is one of the most popular, and IIRC is getting a rebroadcast (or just re-release?) around that time.

It does appear Sony is trying to wrangle up all the B-studio support they can get. NIS, Falcom, and Gust are all on Vita year one. I imagine for those studios they're attracted by less competition (which greatly benefited Gust on PS3), and likely Sony's lower licensing fees. Their hardcore fanbases likely will follow. I wonder if Sony believes something big can be born from all these niches coming together?

Relative to first week performance, it's looking a lot like Portable and Portable 2G on PSP so far, a bit lower now that things are slowing down.
MHTriG

EDIT: Though on second thought, that comparison is pretty flawed. It always bases things off the first week number, but they didn't all have the same length of first week, as is more obvious if we take a closer look:
MHTriG

This works in Tri G's favor in the first image. If it had a few more days of sales first week, its gains relative to the first week wouldn't be so big.

If you're prepared with a second shipment, yes. Especially with Nintendo's possibly still highly inflexible cartridge manufacturing process.
Not that inflexible, actually. The chips are not flash, but they are erasable. No reason to ship unsold stock to Alamogordo, New Mexico - the cartridges can be repurposed.

MHP has sold 5.5m?!!! o_O

edit: ah, ho, it is only legs? That is sales in 100k after the first week?!

edit: maybe it is a multiplier of LTD/first week?!

He dun goofed. Look at MHP3's total, lol.

Edit: We dun goofed.
yes, I feel bad for my brain :(

I just understand the significance of his second graph: if the first week was longer, then the whole remaining weeks ratio would be lower and it would probably be between black and green lines (however, I guess it won't effect the final sales anyway, cause the lower first will compensate for the higher final LTD ratio)

It's probably a ratio thing not million of units sold.
correct; MHP legs are really crazy, Mario level of Crazy. Just shows how it emerged from being an unkown quantity.

Hahaha. :) In the graph creator there's a "Percent based on first value" option. It divides all of a game's numbers by its first week total. So everything is at 1.0 the first week. Reaching 5.5 means it sold 5.5x its first week number.

44.166 is 1.15% of 3.829.480.

Or do you mean that it should be a "." instead of a ","? In Europe (except for in UK, and maybe there are some other exceptions as well) "," is used instead of "." when it comes to numbers.

...Japan readying for Revelations last week?

So next fiscal year we will get a new 2D Mario plattformer, a Revision (?), Pokemon main title (?), Animal Crossing and Tomodachi Collection 2. And maybe MH 4, if Capcom is ready to release it in Q4 of their FY.

3DS second holiday season could become even stronger if Nintendo plays their cards right. Sony better have "fixed" their Vita software situation by then.

More realistically we should have just Mario2d, Animal Crossing and Tomodatchi collection as big seller.

I'm quite sure that MH4 will be a 2013 title, together with a "main" episode for Pokemon. Not sure for the revision.

If all DLC came tied to $13 figurines, I'd consider all DLC to be free

Their Q4 FY is 2013. Could be that they hold it back till fall/holiday 13 but looking how fast they are developing their current 3DS I would be suprised if it would take much longer.

Pokemon Grey or a B/W follow up seems like a given for this year.

Second year in a row without a main Pokemon would be really weird.

If with Pokemon MAIN you meant Pokemon GREY, I'm in: it could arrive within end of March, 2013.
I was thinking about a "real" brand new Pokemon title, such as, I don't know: Pokemon Rainbow for example :p

About MH I'm preeeetty sure that we will not see it before FY 2013. FY 2012 for MH will be on Vita (I'm not trolling or doing port begging: I simply think that at least a MHP3G could hit Vita ASAP)
