Kingdoms Of Amalur: Reckoning |OT| An Enemy-Pounding Funfest

If? That's not really the impression I was getting from the guy on the official forum. Is that you? Because "if" is definitely not good enough to sell people with how bad the camera complaints are.

Yeah, I'm that guy :) I'm working on the fixes personally.

And just to point people to the right place for feedback:
http://forums.reckoning.amalur.com/showthread.php?2485-Your-feedback!-(particularly-camera)

my quote from the OP:
"Disclaimer: I cannot comment on any possible fixes, as that type of action requires many more people, technical hurdles, and all sorts of things beyond my individual control. I am seeking feedback here as the owner of the camera system, and because I want to get a clear sense of what you, the player, are experiencing."

But you can be confident that I'm fighting like hell for this fix. "If" is just a word I have to say because it's not in my power to promise anything here.

Seriously, I don't like the cheesy titles that all OT creators think they need to have.

I think if we bang our heads together we can come up with a better one.

The current one makes it seem like everyone in the thread is raging (in a bad way) about the game.

Well you're definitely doing the right thing, but it sounds like it's a bit out of your hands.

I know Curt and some other guys have eyes on this thread, as well as the one on your forums. Can't help but feel like this needs to be aired out as something that is definitely going forward. For the sake of this game's word of mouth, the sooner that happens the better.

OK, I'm still conflicted about whether to get this from steam or amazon... are the pre-order items ones that you can get in-game some other way?

I dont even feel like playing anymore games right now until Reckoning comes out. First time this has happened to me, when waiting for a game.

I would not worry to much about it if you want it on steam. The pre order items seem nice but your likely going to grow out of them very quickly. The dowsing rod seems like it could be pretty useful though in the right situation.

Wasn't quite sure after reading the OT.

Is the Fate Weapons pack and Armor pack available from all preorder places or are the weapons Collectors Edition only?

Wallach

Only the weapon pack. The Armor pack is a Gamestop exclusive.

Somehow I missed that he even mentioned the armor pack. That one is Gamestop, and Amazon has a divining rod exclusive thing that helps you find crafting materials in the overworld or something like that.

Awesome OT, picking this up day one!
Looking forward to diving into this, been looking forward to it since last march, i think it was, when Gameinformer had an article on the game. Been hyped to the hills ever since.

Nice OP, excited to play this! Finally starting to feel tapped out in Skyrim so this should pick up the RPG slack nicely. Loved the demo.

Can't wait to get my hands on some faeblades as a rogue character. Those things are ace.

With just one week left until Reckoning’s official launch we have some really big surprises in store, including a few midnight launch events. On the evening of February 6th, we’ll be holding three simultaneous midnight release launch events in the Baltimore (Maryland), Boston (Massachusetts), and Tempe (Arizona) areas. Each of these exciting midnight launch events will be hosted by at least one of Reckoning’s visionaries. Stop on by to pick up your copy of Reckoning, and get it signed by one of our visionaries! If you’d like to attend, here’s all you need to know about each:

Bellingham, Massachusetts
GameStop - Stallbrook Marketplace
258 Hartford Ave
Bellingham, MA 02019
Curt Schilling and R. A. Salvatore will be in attendance.

Cockeysville, Maryland
GameStop - #3069
10015 York Road Ste A7
Cockeysville, MD 21030
Ken Rolston and Reckoning Dev Team members will be in attendance.

Tempe, Arizona
GameStop - Tempe Marketplace
2040 E Rio Salado Parkway, Suite 110
Tempe AZ, 85281
Todd McFarlane will be in attendance.

But that’s not all we have up our sleeve. If you aren’t able to attend one of the midnight launch events, we'll be making an appearance on several late-night shows in February, so stay tuned for more details! We also recently released a new trailer to get you pumped for Reckoning’s nearing launch. You can catch all the action on our official YouTube channel.

Man, I just had a crazy idea.

Kingdoms Of Amalur: Reckoning |OT|
Not that it matters, but I like this one too.

Or

Kingdoms Of Amalur: Reckoning |OT| Choose your Fate

It's definitely not going to be changed day 1. We're working on some tweaks, but I cannot guarantee when or if it will happen (but I'm very persuasive, so it probably will). Purchasing the game would speed that decision along though... :)
I have to admit, this is like a kick in the nuts. Here's hoping you win the fight and fixes come soon.

Here is my build for the Universalist Destiny.

Might
Longsword Mastery: (Rank: 6 / 6)
Harpoon: (Rank: 1 / 4)
Skillful Defense: (Rank: 5 / 5)
Greatsword Mastery: (Rank: 6 / 6)
Quake: (Rank: 5 / 5)
Adrenaline Surge: (Rank: 1 / 5)
Hardy Constitution: (Rank: 6 / 6)
Concussive Force: (Rank: 5 / 5)
Aftershock: (Rank: 5 / 5)

Finesse
Dagger Mastery: (Rank: 6 / 6)
Longbow Mastery: (Rank: 6 / 6)
Assassin's Art: (Rank: 6 / 6)
Faeblade Mastery: (Rank: 6 / 6)
Drawpower: (Rank: 5 / 5)
Envenomed Edge : (Rank: 6 / 6)
Smoke Bomb: (Rank: 4 / 4)
Blade Honing: (Rank: 5 / 5)

Sorcery
Staff Mastery: (Rank: 6 / 6)
Storm Bolt: (Rank: 6 / 6)
Chakram Mastery: (Rank: 6 / 6)
Conservative Casting: (Rank: 5 / 5)
Healing Surge: (Rank: 5 / 5)
Chain Lightning: (Rank: 5 / 5)
Ice Barrage: (Rank: 5 / 5)
Frostshackle: (Rank: 1 / 5)

I plan to use 2 sustained abilities with a heavy focus on stun and the damage dealt to stunned enemies. I was left with 2 throw away points that I put into Adrenaline Surge and Frostshackle.

This build heavily depends on the Mastery of Arms bonus. So if I understand it correctly I'll unlock all Brutal, Precise and Arcane Weaponry IV's. If not then it's back to theorycrafting.

Looking at the build I might have overdone the Weapon Mastery ranks. This is me assuming I'll use just about every weapon. So later on I might remove some points or entire Weapon ranks and put them into new actives and upgrades for them.

Skill trees look pretty interesting. I had quit the demo during the initial tutorial part because the game didn't seem very good; might have to give it another try.

you know.. if you wanted to "leak" an unofficial dll or something that would allow users the ability to configure the camera.. that would be fine for most of us.. though obviously the official stamp of approval (tm) would be the preferred situation.

Some people will find the game unplayable with the camera in it's current state unless there have been major camera improvements since the demo code (and not just fixing situations that place the camera under the game world)

I feel somewhat upset that I'm buying this for PS3 instead of PC, but I can't help that my PC decided now was a great time to take a shit. Oh well I'm sure it will still be fun, from what I've seen the PS3 version seems to be well done which is a nice refreshing change of pace from most PS3 ports.

Awesome thanks. Guess I'll be meeting Ken Rolston next week!

Careful you don't get any old man dust on you.

That'll be an amusing event cause it's not that big of a GS store. They should get Ken to convince the Coldstone next door to give everyone free ice cream.

Yeah I'm trying to limit myself to 2 weapons per tree, but even that will be overkill. The 2- handed weapons in the Might tree aren't really my style. But there's too many points that need to be spent so it's either weaponry or more low-tier active skills I won't be using.

The one thing I absolutely hate about the game (that won't stop me from buying it) is the fact that incompatible enemy types work together to defeat me.

By that I mean, bears will attack me on site, but not any other human I lure near them.

Why does the bear ignore the guard attacking me, and only focus on me? Better yet, why is the bear planning its attacks in tandem with the guard?

When using the keyboard, 1/2/3 are all keyboard shortcuts for anything A/X/Y do on the controller, including stuff like directly adding to junk from inventory. So pressing 3 with something highlighted instantly dumps it into junk, 1 equips it, etc.

Ha, that's cool :)

Even though it was a design decision, I don't like the sound of "you can do everything in one play-through". It was the same with Deus Ex HR which didn't have respec but you had enough points to try every type of play-style and build. Amalur has respec meaning there's no tough decisions with your build... you can't mess up and learn from mistakes. I wish they take out respec. I know you can choose not to use it but it's not the same. Prob only gonna beat it once but hopefully that's a lot of hours.

I for one, do not find it fun to learn from a mistake when my mistake involves not spending hours out of game number crunching to determine if I should go for +3% fire damage, or +8% to daggers.

Especially when the game is 100+ hours long. Do you really think it is fun to have to restart 80 hours into the game because you invested in the fire tree and it turns out Meteor is totally underpowered compared to some other high tier skill?

And not being able to respec in this game makes no motherfucking sense.

Wait, so you are Joe Quadara? Pretty much you and Ian Frazier are the ones to really sell me on this game. I mean by watching both of you in the "Inside Reckoning" videos. That and the way everything has come together within the game. I hope the camera can get the tweaks needed for others. I can make due with what I get but I can see where the adjustments would enhance others enjoyment of the game.

Thanks. It's been a fun ride, this game is friggin huge.

Ian and I were just talking about the camera and how the feedback during development didn't come through nearly as strongly as it did on the forums when the demo was released. I think next time I want feedback during development, I'll just do some sort of neogaf invitation only thing or something.
