I didn't think she was serious about that. Right?

She was trolling, son. There's only one member of GAF that I can think of that lives up here that would be considered a "special guest".

I'm really thinking that I don't want to drive into the city, even if it's just a Thursday night, so I'll probably take the ferry. Anyone else considering that route?

This is somewhat tempting. Though I'm wondering if I really want to erase the anonymity I've built up here by going. I've aired a lot of baggage on here that most would probably never do. I also don't drink anymore either.

Main thing is it'd be annoying to drive into the city and stay late on a weeknight since I do have to work Friday (dunno why so many people seem to never work Friday's or are able to hang out late/party on Thursdays so often).

A GDC meetup would be cool since I'm going.

Where would you be driving from? I think a bunch of you should just drive to the nearest bart station and bart in. No sense in driving in SF and trying to find parking.

Trying to throw me off the trail, I see.

If you want to take the ferry, you can park in Alameda or Oakland. I'm not 100% sure I'm going yet, but I gotta figure out how far this place is from the ferry pier...

It's definitely not walking distance from the pier. You'll want to end up taking muni to downtown.

The place that ends up being chosen should just be within walking distance of a bart station to make it easy on everyone I think. The main one in the OP certainly is.

I don't think this date would work as my school is 70 miles south of SF and I have class Thursday and Friday. Plus I don't drink, so what could I do besides sit and eat chips?

Someone should make a damn Facebook event or something. It usually makes things way easier to plan out for when/where/who, etc. ....

I think the first place would be best given it's proximity to BART as well as a very large parking garage next to the Metreon/Moscone (which should hopefully be mostly vacant on a Thursday night) for those who need to drive in.

Though yeah, waiting for the details to get sorted out. Then I can start the long debate in my head on whether or not to forsake anonymity and take a chance.

I dunno, the Metreon might actually start getting busy for the next few weeks as people may become interested in seeing the new revamped place as its due to open up soon:

S.F.'s Metreon ready for its 2nd act:

Beginning Saturday, a bevy of new restaurants and retail outlets will be opening at the "reimagined" mall in downtown San Francisco.

They include Buckhorn Grill, SoGreen Yogurt and San Francisco Soup Co., to be followed in days or weeks by Cako Creamery, La Boulange Bakery, Massage Envy Spa, Brandy Ho's Hunan Food and many others.

"Every space is committed. You don't get that very often in this economy," said Scot Vallee, vice president of the Westfield Group, the Metreon's owner and developer.

Diners, shoppers and convention-goers at nearby Moscone Center - 30,000 orthopedic surgeons are in town next week, for example - will also get a taste of the complex's lighter, brighter redesign, including a 470-seat dining terrace facing Yerba Buena Gardens, the formerly enclosed Fourth Street side populated by street-level shops and cafes, and a renovated, 20,000-square-foot event space, called City View.

The remodeling of existing AMC cinemas is close to complete, including a new box-office entrance in the middle of Fourth Street. (The 3-D version of "Star Wars" debuts on the IMAX screen there next week.)

All of the tenants will be in by spring, said Vallee, except for Target - the retail crown jewel - which opens in October.

Clearly, one of the chief aims of the renovation is to attract more business from those in town for conventions at Moscone Center, whose own $56 million overhaul is scheduled to be complete in July.

That, in part, explains the free Wi-Fi being provided throughout the Metreon, including the outdoor areas, along with outlets in the dining terrace to plug in your iPad.

Westfield's original goal, encouraged by City Hall, was to fill 50 percent of the estimated 1,500 temporary and permanent jobs created by the project with San Franciscans. Vallee said the company was now looking at close to 85 percent.

It's a deli as well and they offer plenty of foods and stuff for you to eat.

That is good to know as I'd be starving for food by the time I could get there.

Also I share the sentiment of those who feel awkward to go to a bar and not drink. It just seems to automatically invoke a negative impression since why would someone go to a bar and not drink?

Since I am the thread starter, I hereby decree that if anyone pokes fun at anyone else for not drinking, I'll make you sell your body in the SOMA later that night to buy 40's for the group.

You have been warned.

Just get a club soda with lime. Nobody can tell the difference, nor do most people care.

It's, like, right there in the title...
Yes, aside from the obvious, I'm talking about generally. If you weren't part of a group, why would you go to a bar and not drink?

Cheers for that. That's a relief. Too bad posting histories aren't covered too, because I can't say I'm proud of mine (and that's going to be an AWKWARD thing indeed)

I am curious how this is going to work out though. I mean, what happens if a super huge group shows up then how does conversation and such take place? In fact, how will anyone be able to identify where things are taking place and who is a part of the group?

Well how about water? I don't like drinking any carbonated beverage as that doesn't sit well with my stomach. Though isn't it weird to order water at a bar if you're not drunk?

This is where GAF shirts are actually useful I guess. If not that then the smart phone people, it's your responsibility to tell people where we are congregating ;). Seems like the first OP bar is the easiest joint so far, might as well make that the go to, unless something changes last minute and we have to move venues. We could also start trading phone numbers for those who aren't on a smart phone if something changes and the thread gets updated. Could also talk on FB, but not make that the only communication too since not everyone has one.

PM me your guys FBs.

Sure, water works too - it's really not weird at all. Don't sweat it!

...because I just got a new job! 8-D

Anyway, yeah its swing shift which means I do not exist in the evenings anymore. So, next time lets do this on a weekend because I was *really* excited about this. If TD is the surprise imma cry because I want to meet that dude.

I'm going to miss this by about 2 weeks :(

I'm not coming back to the Bay until March 3rd. Guess I'll just have to wait for a Seattle GAF meetup.

Alright, just trying not to be "that guy" (or at least, make an effort to pretend to be otherwise in public)

Looking at the LA-GAF meetup pics that just took place is making me look forward to this though.
