Mass Effect 3 PC will NOT have gamepad support

This deserves its own thread. And no, it's not a joke. A multiplatform game is released for PC, in 2012, by one of the biggest publishers in the industry, in one of the biggest franchises in gaming, WITHOUT GAMEPAD SUPPORT. This is so hideously atrocious that I can't even comprehend how they're thinking. There are many PC gamers who, like me, prefer gamepads for various reasons (ergonomics, already working with a computer 8 hours/day etc) and it has become standard for all multiplatform games to support at least Xinput (360 controller). EA apparently don't care. Personally, I'll be cancelling my pre-order immediately, and I urge you to do the same.

what

why not? I would assume it would be an easy thing to do if they're gonna port the 360 version over.

I would personally play on KB+M, but still whattehfuk

After playing the ME3 demo on PC, I actually don't mind. The KBM controls are good.

Sucks. But it's not like ME1 or 2 had pad support.

You would think that after ME1 and ME2, they'd take the hint. Personally, I'm fine with KB/M controls in most cases, but this shit is just plain lazy. There is no excuse for a big budget console port to not have gamepad support in this day and age. Get with the times, bitches.

No Mass Effect 2 support was ridiculous but this for Mass Effect 3 is downright inexcusable. Awesome job Bioware.

The KBM controls are fine. The drag-and-drop stuff for the hotbar is broken on PC, though.

Have any Bioware games had controller support on the PC?

ME1 didn't
ME2 didn't
DA:O didn't
DA2 didn't
SWTOR doesn't
ME3 doesn't

Yeah, it would be nice if it had controller support, but it's not a deal breaker for me.

Doesn't seem like they care too much, either.

It wouldn't surprise me if it was a twisted anti-piracy approach.

Anti-consumer choices like this will always push people to pirate the game. It's one more reason to. The game is already going to be of questionable quality, and guess what, you can't play it with the industry standard controller for PC!

It's just another reason to not give them money.

This is really, really surprising given its console roots too. I don't have a problem with it as long as the kb + m controls aren't bad, but surprising nonetheless.

At least it's not one of those games where it's specifically designed for controllers instead on PC to where the 360 face buttons show up even on kb + m. I always loved the tutorials on those games as I try to figure out what A is...lol

Wat? I just got 1 and 2 on Steam and figured they would have controller support like every other EA game straight out of the box :(

3 on 360 it is.

They never really cared about it, people have been asking since ME1 and 2 I think, I can't remember what exactly they said though, but it's something along the lines of that the PC version has its own PC controls that takes advantage of the keyboard.

It kind of sucks though, since I'm sure they're aware of the issue and people asked and posted attempts at modding it, they just don't really care...

DA:O doesn't because it is supposed to be played like an older iso-RPG that contains tons of menus cascading everywhere. Not sure about DA2.

SWTOR is an MMO in the vein of EQ/WoW - plenty of keys needed.

You could argue that during ME1, no one really cared about using a controller on a PC port. Same goes for ME2; didn't hear much complaints at the time but I think gamepad use on PC really went up sometime in mid-2010 (or at least amongst GAFers). So yes it is weird ME3 doesn't have it but I'm not to broken up over it.

Get Xpadder (free)
Or Pinnacle Games Profiler

I use pinnacle all the time for those old school games which don't support the 360 controller.

The lack of support though is baffling. It's a 15 minute implement at most.

I'm fine with that. it's a goddamn shooter after all.
If you really care about using a controller, there are custom front ends, serve yourself.

To be completely honest the lack of support for gamepads is probably the main reason why ME controls are decent on PC using M&K.

Judging from the PC demo:

- No gamepad support
- Encrypted ini file, making it impossible to alter UE engine commands (FOV, flycam, tiledshot, etc.)
- No holster animation, resulting in no 360 degree camera movement in combat scenarios. ALWAYS constant over-the-shoulder view.
- texture resolution akin to a PS2 game
- No hotkeys for inventory, map, etc.

And Bioware seems to have reiterated that ME3 wasn't going to be a poor console port. I don't think the retail version will differ much from the demo.

what's sad is, that they didn't hire the same dudes to do the ME1 PC port (which was really really good), and ME2 PC port was really terrible. HOPEFULLY ( i really doubt) the mouse and keyboard is as good as ME1

Kinda dumb since it will be annoying if I wanna play this on my TV, but it feels really good with keyboard and mouse.

I'd like to add spacebar being used for way too many functions that could be mapped to other keys to this list.

Yeah, you'd think they'd want as big an audience as possible, but apparently not!

The only excuses they give is that the PC versions are optimized for the PC, but in ME2's case it was barely different, they just added hot key support.

I have to say though, on PC ME2 I can raise the sensitivity of my mouse to max and I can planet scan almost instantly. WORTH IT!

they dont support it, because they dont want people to play the cheaper pc version on their tv with gamepad. fuck bioware/EA!

bioware games always support hotkeying and have a different interface on pc. Which makes me happy that at least someone is taking advantage of the controll options of kb/m. mass effect had like 8 or 9 keys for powers compared to the 3 of a controller. they probably don't want to bother to implement 2 different interfaces.

i dunno games like the witcher an deus ex manage to have 2 interfaces that switch dynamically, surely theres enough money to develop that for mass effect 3 too?

Its really quite ridiculous when you realise its the third game in a row without it and its originally a 360 game. I mean come on, how hard can it be?

this is one of those rare times when i can say yes, yes i will cancel my pre-order

i could use a 3rd party program to get the controller working but for a game like this
i shouldn't have to

i will see you in the bargain bin just like i found your predecessor for £6

It is really inexcusable, jesus fuck it's 2012 and a top tier game is missing it's natural control scheme..

What kind of lazy ass developing is that?
