Media Create Sales: Week 5, 2012 (Jan 30 - Feb 05)

For Media Create watchers: did the 3DS sales turn around when the price was cut, or when the big games showed up?
The price cut produced a second spike around 3ds second or 3 week after launch numbers, and then settled to around 50k-60k until MH anouncement and then jumped again when 3D land hit.

If Andria Sangs release list is complete it looks like this is it for notable Vita releases. This will get really hard to look at in the coming weeks and months.

Yep
Either there's going to be a fair amount of new games revealed in the coming weeks or the Vita is pretty much dead for the rest of the year

I disagree, especially when you still have developers announcing games for PSP while Vita has a barren (known) software lineup, I think it's definitely crippling the Vita's appeal at the moment

Sony should have released the Vita in Japan last, when more developers were shifting over from PSP development and ready to show their software

Maybe, but we have no idea how it's even going to do in the west. Japan could look like a sales haven for all we know.

Unless Sony is really losing money on this thing, I don't see how they make it past E3 without a significant cut. It's not just the price, but it's the hidden tax of the overpriced proprietary memory.

Yes, it's clear Sony needs to do something.

The only significant games with dates in Japan now are 999's sequel (mp), Lumines, Rayman (mp), and Ninja Gaiden Sigma Plus (port), and Gust's new IP (not much of a system seller, from the looks of it).

Persona 4 still shows "summer", SFvT unknown.

If all DLC came tied to $13 figurines, I'd consider all DLC to be free
Rough weeks ahead for Vita - at least Gravity Daze launched strong.

Wastes hours checking old Famitsu software data, but that's why we love him.

It kind of reminds me of the Wii starting in late 2009- the release list for 2010 looked really barren and you kept telling yourself "there is no way Nintendo is going to let 2010 be this empty, right?" And yet it was.*

*- note, I am talking about impactful software sales wise for the Japanes region. This is not meant to comment on the actual quality of Wii's 2010 software lineup.

It wasn't seettling around 50-60k. It was dropping steadily until MH3G+4 was announced

196 -> 105 -> 60 -> 54 -> 49 -> 59 (MH3G+4) -> 70

The drop wasn't likely to significant from 50k below considering before pricedrop 3DS managed 30k. Sure I could of said 45 or 40 but your just being pedantic.

Isnt that exactly what he just wrote ? The last 3 weeks before MH were in the 50-60K range. Or am i missing something ? It dropping after a big price cut, was expected.

it needs a new Final Fantasy or Kingdom Hearts or MonHun or MGS, not remakes. and it needs it NOW!

Problem is, they can't make them appear out of thin air. With the love Sony professes to announcing copious ammounts of estimated titles ("next call of duty"), vaporware (RE and DMC Portable) or titles that have barely started development (Killzone 2 target render bull-video, FF XIII) we would already know about them. Seeing how it's not the case, we shouldn't expect them for sooner than Q1 2013 which is a disaster for Vita.

That's not settling around an amount if it keeps dropping similar numbers each week. And actually MH3G was announced the week before, so it was more like this:

196 -> 105 -> 60 -> 54 -> 49 (MH3G) -> 59 (MH4) -> 70

The point I'm making is that the pricecut alone didn't turn the fortune of the 3DS around and one pricecut alone won't do any better for Vita. And I think that's what chubigans was trying to know.

My point it was was mostly likely to stick around that range and maybe slightly below consider the 3DS was was stating to sell 30k which was significantly more expensive than the price cut price. It seemed unlikely that that it would reach 30k and would most probably at least stay in the 40k range with like some weeks in the 50k and maybe 60k.

Even without the announcement it was getting closer to the run up to Christmas it was be more likely to start rising sooner rather than later.

Oh sry, i`ll agree complete with that. Without the titles announced/shown for the 3DS at the event the 3DS sales wouldnt have gotten so high.

Probably Sony is also playin the waiting game and will drop the price once some bigger titles are ready to be launched on Vita - but can they wait till this holiday season like Nintendo did last year ? I doubt that.

Well, maybe I'm wrong, but the price cut helped the 3DS increasing its weekly sales, then the big announcments helped it in increasing into another step/level.

Just curious, what is "the hero we need" referring to?

The Dark Knight (the paragraph above where it says "Taglines")

Also, about ditching PSP to increase Vita sales:

Firstly, PSP is Sony's only profitable portable system. They'd be going further into the red if they dropped it totally.

Secondly, there is no Vita sku at a mass market price level, and the main competition is already in the sweet spot, or near enough to it. If the PSP were suddenly gone, a good deal of its former customers would jump to the 3DS. Vita might be helped, but not by enough to make a difference, and Sony's portable sales overall would go down.

At least, that's my suspicion.
