Kingdoms Of Amalur: Reckoning |OT| An Enemy-Pounding Funfest

Are you supposed to go to the Plains or Detyre first? The last parts of the Plains were still giving me yellow enemies, but I just entered Detyre for the first time, and everybody is grey.

I've been doing everything btw, so I'm lvl 29.

So what did you guys choose at the end of the Warsworn quest?

I threw my lot in with the demon lord, and it was pretty badass. Felt a little guilty betraying Anwyn, but man it was so satisfying strolling into the Firstsworn Hall and killing those guys, then kicking down the doors and slaughtering the entire army at Ironkeep. I nuked the little dwarf blacksmith with a meteor.

Out of curiosity though, what happens if you choose the good guy role? Do you get an armor set or something? I figured since I was going pure mage, I wouldn't need anything like that anyway. It was a little anticlimactic when all I got was a useless demon heart for going renegade though. :\

Well, you get big fat thank you (kind of) :D Nothing special for backing up the good guys ;)

At what point does the game start hitting it's stride do you think? I just got to level 12 and just finished the main plot quest in Ettinmere, now I'm doing odds and ends in Didenhill before doing more main stuff. I feel like I have a pretty good grasp on combat and everything, but at the same time I also think I've just barely scratched the surface in terms of neat loot/abilities/customization/things to do and the world overall.

You do get
a twist of fate and a piece of armour
. I assume you get a variant of the former for
backing Mr. Meanie
.
I didn't get anything from Mr. Meanie aside from a useless heart and whispers of sweet nothings in my ear. :\

The worshipers dropped some gold loot though, which was pretty nuts. All stuff I couldn't use, but whatever.

If you do
'the right thing' you get a twist of fate that gives you +1 to Might

If you don't it's
+10% Physical, +5% Fire, and +1 Might; if you do the "right thing", it's +10% Critical Chance to Niskaru, +6% Stun Duration, and +1 Might
.

What's the deal with Coilsbane Ruins? Does that stuff get explained in a later quest?

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE LOOK UP!!! That is my FAVORITE area in the game! When you enter that dungeon LOOK UP!!!!

BTW for the person that asked earlier, I said I was going to play PC with XBox controller, I am now playing PC, and Xbox, one as Sorcerer, the other as Finesse, two play throughs.

I'm absolutely loving this game; I hope BHG gets to make a bunch more of these.

This is exactly what I thought the Fable series was going to be. Great third person combat with an RPG system similar to the Bethesda open world stuff. I like the Fable games, but KOA is every bit what those games should have been.

Hmm I just spent around 50 hours in dalentarth and got alittle into detyre, but now I'm thinking about starting a new character to roll with a different build for awhile...choices.

I love might/finesse and great swords are awesome overall but it sometimes feels like they have the smallest move set. I also don't seem to get very lucky with gs drops as I have a ton of purple for everything else except the greats. Ill probably go finesse sorc next and roll with dagger/chakrums as the little bit of stealth I've done felt pretty satisfying. I also feel like I may have missed some drops early on because I just did not think that stuff like wolves and boggarts dropped anything worthwile.

OK, so not only did I break the game by installing two health gems in my chestpiece(now I never lose health in fights no matter how much I let enemies bang on me), but now I've somehow broken the pet Faer Gorta. Any time I summon him he's now hostile towards me. Now instead of attacking enemies, he attacks me. And now my attacks also harm him. I tried respeccing and losing the ability to summon him, and then respec again to add it back but yet again he summons and he's immediately hostile towards me. F*cking hell.

lol that's hilarious. He tends to glitch out. I've seen some pretty funny stuff with this summon.

I'm sorry but that sounds awesome and I must find out how you did this.

I'll go do that when I get back to playing but I am curious if the
Faer Gorta summoner (Balthasar, I think on the spelling) is a planned DLC or stuff already in the game? The two factions (or even NPCs) he mentions I don't recall seeing ever but I may have just overlooked them
. If you can't speak about it, or just don't know, that's cool but man, it's such an interesting little tidbit that I'm curious about it...

I think I'm close to the end? I've done all of the factions quest lines and I've done the
siege at Mel Senshir
.

The main quest seems fairly short compared to some of the factions lines. I'm level 34 right now and god my mage is strong. At first I was using some of my custom armor with gems that increased defense but now I went with the Sorrow set and my mage is even stronger. Defense wise, it's poor but the mana and sorcery bonus are great.

With all the twists of fates and armor bonuses, I have a +4 to all Sorcery abilities.

Enemies die really, really fast on hard. The boss of the house of Sorrow went down in less than 20 seconds after using reckoning mode.

I mean I take a beating when I'm hit but my faer gota has a 100% chance to heal me when he hits a monster.

Seraphis Cain

bad gameplay lol
Okay, I'm seriously just about to take off the health regen gems I put on my armor. I only really put them on so I wouldn't have to worry about running out of potions at a critical time, but they've had the unintended side effect of making me pretty much invincible. =/

Yeah, the game is so easy, even on hard, that it loses a lot of the fun value. There's no point in a crafting system that has the ability to break the game.

They should take a lesson from Demon's Souls/Dark Souls. I get that they wanted to make the game accessible to everyone, but there's no reason to make it so damn easy.

I'm actually losing the will to play the game at this point. I find it fun, I love the combat, but knowing that I can expect to breeze through the rest of the game (and I've pretty much ignored the crafting system!) is depressing.

And, while I'm bitching, the music is pretty terrible. Especially since it doesn't loop. I usually end up listening to something from my mp3 player in place of the game music, because it's rarely playing, or it's just really dull. They could take a lesson from Nier on this one for some fabulous music.

Out of curiosity, how hard would it be to give xbox/ps3 owners an option to use the official chatpad to bind more abilities to? I would love to be able to bind abilities to the 1,2,3,8,9,0 keys on the 360 chatpad.

Is that even possible? (I know about the memory issue, just wondering if there's any thing else which might make this impossible).

I'm hooked on this game, I love reading books and notes in every house/dungeon I get to. The ones in Detyre give a lot of information for those looking for more background on what's happening in that area. 65 hours in and I'm enjoying this way more than I thought I would.

So I just got Skyrim and tried to play it a bit tonight...

It's really hard to go back to a game with such non-existent combat. I think Reckoning may have ruined Skyrim for me.

As a side note, what kind of build is everyone using? So far I have a pure Sorcery and a pure Might guy, and at the moment I'm really loving pure Sorcery. I haven't even had the chance to try any Finesse stuff though.

I kinda agree. It's hard to keep playing the knowing that the loot you get will never be better than the equipment from crafting.

I'm not using any crafted gear, so a definite upgrade there for me. Now I'll kill everything in 1.5 seconds instead of 2.

Yep. Sagecrafting quite literally breaks the game. It's amazing they somehow missed this.

Why not just respec? do you really want to spend another 40-50 hours to get where you are when you can just respec for a few grand? you get all your ability and skill points back (and the ones you got from trainers are still there too) and if you don't like it just respec again and try other builds. The price is very cheap since you become filthy rich in the game

Hah, that's funny. I found those like five minutes before I found a more powerful set, so I hardly got to use them. They weren't behind a hidden door, though.

I have so many purples in storage. I'm finding upgrades constantly, and it's not even like I need them. I destroy everyone and everything regardless.

Oh, and the orbs on my shield seem to have abandoned me.

Yeah, the orbs are bugged and disappear whenever you speak to an NPC; I assume they did this to not be as annoying during cutscenes, but they stay gone until you force a script reload (fast travel, zone transition with loading, etc). One of the reasons I hardly ever use it anymore since I have to keep fucking with it to make it work.

Edit - Oh, I see now. What the fuck is going on there, lol

Not only is the disappearing bug with the orbs annoying but having them constantly hitting objects and making that noise when you're just walking around town sucks. Deal-breaker, respecced out of them immediately lol

I still use them because, when they do work, they're great. They let you get up close and personal and not get interrupted while casting as much.

I'm at the point where I'm thinking of respeccing and going dagger/bow or something, though. I have 6 rogue sets that I can't wear right now, and not even a full sorcery set.

I'm also thinking of switching to Polymath -> Universalist. I want to use more of my loot, especially the weapons. I haven't played in a couple days actually, because when I sit down to play something I can't decide if I want to do that and wind up playing a different game.

Part of me doesn't want to because I have not saved much that wasn't mage loot, and the vendors don't store infinite items so I've permanently lost some stuff.

Alright, you know...I think I might just take a break for now and wait until we get some sort of rebalancing/difficulty patch before I carry on. I know Curt said that the team was definitely paying attention to all the posts about the difficulty, so I'm confident that we'll get some sort of patch at some point.

Honestly I'd really hope for a complete rebalancing patch like Dark Souls got, but that might be a bit unrealistic. A higher difficulty setting at the very least would be nice too, though.

I would really like to see the crafting stuff be toned down, though.

The armor won't make a huge difference at first. Just throw on whatever you have and go from there. I mean, it would at least make it challenging until you had a full set :p

I'll respec in a little while once I'm finished with this side quest of
tracking down a million books
and see how I like taking magic out of my diet.

Anyone solved that chest puzzle in Forgotten Halls?
The chest with a ward with 8 flames
I'm stuck

If I remember right
start at any one and just work your way systematically from there hitting each one. There's probably a solution in less than 8 moves but, hey
.

It's more of a completionist thing, since I do actually have some stuff around my level, just not older stuff. The bigger indecision though about the actual build itself; JoaT is surprisingly hard to build for, especially once you hit 109 points since you need to respec out of all the weapon attack lines. I'll probably do something like Mark of Flame, Storm Bolt, Reckless Assault and Lunge with the two sustained from Finesse for crit damage and poison.

Any tips for a finesse/sorcery build? It was fun at first but it sucks now. Enemies keep ganging up on me and killing 3/4 of my health before I was even doing anything. My spells and daggers do too little damage.

It's weird as I see a lot of "OMG MIGHT AND SORCERY ARE OVERPOWERED" and I'm finding my Might/Finesse playthrough unable to match what I was doing with Finesse/Sorcery :( -33% damage taken from Poisoned enemies and +33% damage to bleeding enemies made the impressive crits from the build just amazing. Though, I never did find Sorcery in that build all that great, to be honest.

Anyway, I'd look into better gear via Blacksmithing. You don't have to go completely crazy with it but if itemization hasn't been kind to you, it's a good way to get some extra Crit% into your diet, so to speak.

If you're avoiding Blacksmithing entirely, then you may need to look into your playstyle some. Stealth is nice to just drop an enemy on engagements but it really slows down pacing. Lunge is a good get out of jail free card since it gets you safely behind an enemy. Smoke Bomb is the best way to utilize Stealth bonuses and decimate enemies right there.

lol, good :) I spent like 10 minutes on it before pausing to look at the whole thing and facepalming at the simplicity of it. I actually think it carries through for all permutations of the circle from 4+.

I must suck at this game...compared to others here

Well, I suck at non MMO games generally

I tried doing House of Ballads quest at Castle Windmere at level 16 and it kicked my ass

Doesn't help that I have been unable to find new Faeblades or daggers above level 7 requirement yet :(

Oh and I hate Thresh

So, Im pretty burnt right now. Im doing one of the Warsworn quests. After killing an enemy, I went to loot the body. As I turn around, my AI companion has decided to block me from moving from this corner. I dont have the dash ability, can wiggle past any side, no combo or ability gets me past her. Fast travel? Cant, as Im in a dungeon. Load the last auto save? Can, and it puts me back in the EXACT SAME SPOT WITH THIS BITCH BLOCKING ME.

So, Ive done everything I can to get out of this corner, and simply cant find a way. Any suggestions that Im not thinking of? If not, and I lose a whole entire night of play, leveling from 22 to 25, hours of play when I dont get that much time to play, I may go from loving this game to not playing again.

Maybe dropping a shadow prism at her feet will nudge her out of the way. I don't know if they actually have collision, though.

Don't you have a destiny with blink dodge unlocked? You could blink through the companion?

Dead

well not really...yet
Moving from Might/Finesse to Might/Sorcery and I think Ive finally found something to settle on. Might respec once more to better distribute my skills though.

Unfortunately, the character thats trapped me is part of the quest, so I dont have the option to attack them. I hate this, because I was REALLY digging the game, but in terms of my top few things that will make me drop a game without a second thought and walk away is losing large chucks of playtime.

Don't you have a destiny with blink dodge unlocked? You could blink through the companion?

Nope, just respec to a might build earlier in the night.

Also have tried using a shadow prism. Sneaking, rolling, talking to her, etc. Its crazy that the game fricking autosaved while im in a random corner looting someone.
