That tourny seemed weird. Unhype. Not many entrants. People shitted on it afterwards, saying they just played for the money and didn't like the game.

Plus I think it was too early in the games life cycle.

It had plenty of entrants. Think it was 300 or so.

It was really more along the lines of having to the PDP sticks which supposed to emulate the old US arcade feel. Unfortunately the old US arcade sticks are pretty unresponsive.

I will agree with the too early part though. Both in terms of the player skill level and NRS itself still seemed to think relatively safe meterless reversals were a good thing.

Can you imagine if Capcom partners with MLG for the $500k events... the salt clean-up will take decades

Worst term ever.

Are chess players board game athletes now?

Sundance himself hates the term, but once he added SC2 to MLG and it took over, the term did as well. He used to just call it Competitive Gaming or Pro Gaming. The term eSports was never used back when MLG had just Halo, other console shooters, fighting games and sports games on the circuit. The term is unique to competitive PC gaming and MLG never really had a PC presence, now that it has SC2 and some sort of DOTA clone in the future, eSports will be used when referring to them.

It's funny how a semantic issue can seriously rub people the wrong way.

Exactly, people shit on any term, if you say Competitive gaming, people will just say all gaming is competitive. If you say Pro gaming, people will give you shit because you can't feasibly make a living off of "competitive gaming/eSports" outside of maybe Starcraft in Korea. People shit on eSports because it's just a dumb term, but it stuck and is here to stay, so what ya gonna do.

Association that gaming is still below sports and eSports is offensive because competitive gaming is not comparable to sports in many people's eyes.
And for a lot of games I'd agree that the professionalism and gamer culture makes it seem that way.
Really, "cyber-athletes" ought to be half-man half-machine monsters-
Can we get MLG to fund that?
Korea already has started research on Flash.
