So it wasn't an empty promise! Or at least not something that takes so long it's effectively a separate project (Persona PSP for example).

EO4 has been in development, or at least planned, since before the 3DS came out, I think. I remember hearing about it quite a while ago. I'm glad it's nearing completion enough to start getting talked about. Here's hoping we see it in the west before year's end! Rune Factory 4 too, I could use some meaty RPGs like those for the system.

BG art by Nizo Yamamoto? Crazy talk.

Wonder how they'll use 3D for it. I'm expecting mindblowing stuff.

Scan confirms multiple difficulties, Normal and Casual. Casual since they also want to get new players into the series.
A bunch of jobs including but not limited to swordman, medic, fortress(?), rune master, and dancer are confirmed. It says more are hinted.

Sinobi's report from an early copy of Famitsu reveals that the game's staff includes Daisuke Kaneda as director, Nizou Yamamoto as background artist, Shin Nagasawa on monster design, Yuji Himukai as character designer and Yuzo Koshiro on sound.

The magazine introduces seven jobs, including sword man, medic, dancer, and sniper. This may be just a sampling of the total job list, though.

The game will add a difficulty setting in order to appeal to newcomers. Joining the standard Normal difficulty, players will be able to select a casual mode. The difficulty can be changed at any point during play.

I really can't wait to see Yamamoto's art. That's really the most interesting part about this, I think.

Day 1!

Hopefully Atlus USA can get this out sometime in 2012. This is really looking like a great year for them.

It was on a release list back at E3 2010, but that doesn't mean it was actually in development at the time.

He's a pretty swell guy in my books anyway.
Kanada is directing?!? Does that mean it's going to have a new battle system?

Interesting. I've always wanted to get into the Etrian Odyssey series but it was a casualty of too large a backlog and I had to pass over it. But if this one looks promising, I may have to get started with the series. (Which will probably be an expensive and timely endeavor.)

Yes! Was hoping this would actually turn up.

BTW, is the first game at all worth going back to after playing II and III? I 100%d III in every way possible and also went through Dark Spire and Strange Journey (and enjoyed them) for my EO fix, so I've been considering trying to pick up the original.

I hated this game when I tried to play it. It was boring and tedious with archaic game design and no real story or special features to push the game along.

Then I hated the sequel and the next game too. I look forward to hating this one as well all the way to the end.
