I think it would have been better if they only mentioned the Wii U and showed some screens. Last E3's showing wasn't just rushed, it was ill-thought.

Did they actually show any software at that?
I'll be honest, I don't remember an E3 before 2006.

E3 2005 was when they first revealed the console, when Iwata said it would be the size of 3 DVD cases, and that the graphics will make us say wow. Then in 2006 we got the blow out.

Right, that's what I'm saying.
The first actual showing of the system was really 2006 (besides the behind closed doors stuff).
And it was huge.
The Wii U was just the tech demos.

The rumors/leaks probably forced their hand in revealing as much as they did.
Being a public company, Nintendo also has a responsibility to report certain things for its investors so that they can make investment decisions.
Regardless, we likely would have seen it at TGS anyway.

Since the conference we've learnt a few things, though. NFC, account-based on-line, NiN.

I think they could have gotten away with saying nothing or that they don't comment on rumors. Sure, the shareholders would have wanted to know something, but they could have handled that differently. It would have been better than what we're doing now. Just seems like they should be hyping the crap out of this thing and letting people know that games are coming and what those games are. Hell, even the games that were announced aren't really talking about the Wii U version or anything of that nature. It's strange, man. Why gum up the works for the guys who are working on games already announced? I don't understand that.

But what I'm saying is they did a vague reveal at one E3 and then a full one the following E3.

I think the issue is far too much leaked. We had people who based off descriptions practically drew identical to the real thing controllers etc.

I do think Nintendo needs to loosen the leash on 3rd parties though. Its stupid to block them from saying oh yeah this titles coming out on Wii U or showing info on titles they already announced. The only reason you hide that stuff is to try and hide capabilities of the system but lets be real. Microsoft and Sony learned before the leaksd occured what Nintendo was shooting for.

It was only vague because it was poorly planned.
It shows a lot about the system, though.
It really wasn't comparable to showing just the system and a MP2 demo being passed as MP3.

I disagree. You should check out the 2005 press conference to get a better idea of what I'm saying. Also Miyamoto didn't use a translator in it. ^_^

We saw the actual system in 2005 on stage, just no software for it. The controller hadn't been formally revealed yet iirc.

Their 2011 tease reveal handily outdid their 2005 tease reveal. We got game announcements, a game demonstration, a breakdown of what the controller does, two tech demos, and people got to play it on the showfloor. If last year was poorly planned, then 2005's was decided upon the morning of the conference as Iwata wrote out the presentation on sticky notes.

That's where Miyamoto asked the blond presenter playing nintendogs to go backstage with him so he could show her some more 'tricks'. After that, Miyamoto was never allowed to speak english in any presentations ever again without a translator....

^ LOL. Yeah, that was funny.

It hadn't guek. They showed the controller at TGS I believe.

XD

That explains why they were pulling consoles out of their clothes. Reggie with the GBA micro and Iwata with Wii.

I totally agree. There is no reason we shouldn't be getting more information on the Wii U version of Arkham City. We already know the game is coming out, so why all the secrecy? It also doesn't make any sense why the trailer for Darksiders 2 doesn't have the Wii U logo as well. Maybe they should be barred from talking about overall capabilities such as RAM, GPU, etc., but they should be able to talk about functions related to their game.

I wonder what partnerships they will announce:

even though they probably refer to call of duty and all that

Because Nintendo likes to have a big blowout party. After E3 you can expect multiplatform games with Wii U versions to be mentioned without problems.

Even though all this secrecy is frustrating, I prefer it that way so I can be pleasantly surprised at the E3. Unlike Sony and MS which spill all their secrets weeks before E3 even starts, thus, ruining any hype for their showings or conferences.

I'm surprised there are people actually anticipating Arkham City...well I guess there is you peculiar Wii only owners :p

Strangely enough, I have the 360 version, but I only played to 50% of the story then stopped. I'll play it again on the Wii U for a "different" experience. Will probably do the same thing for Darksiders 2. I'm holding out for Skyrim to be announced on the Wii U so I can pick it up, then.

Shining Souls?
Could be. Demon's Souls, then Dark Souls, maybe they'll want to go for something more light.

I skipped skyrim but I might bite a wiiU version if it's enhanced.

Wii only owners are probaby in the best position of any of us.

Probably.

As for Skyrim. I'm really hoping that if they do a Wii U version, it has remote and nunchuck support. After watching my roommate play it on the 360, I'd much rather have the option. That would push me to pick the game up day 1. Otherwise, it'll be something I get eventually if it gets released at all.

I own a PS3 and a more than capable PC, but I'm still waiting for the Wii U version. I just love the idea of having a touch interface on top of regular console gaming controls.

Didn't some of the playable tech-demos for the Wii end up becoming Wii Play?

Could we get a "U Play" based on some of the stuff we saw at E3 last year? Either as a pack-in title, or perhaps even bundled with a second pad?

It would be foolish for Nintendo not to create something that contains Chase Mii and Battle Mii, along with other such titles, and include it in with the system.

What do we have here? It looks like Monolith Soft isn't just working on a Wii U project. It's currently hiring for a 3DS project too!

http://andriasang.com/con02n/monolith_3ds/

- opened a recruitment page for the project
- being worked on by the newly-formed Kyoto studio
- looking for designers, motion designers and 3DCG designers
- 3DCG designers will work on character modeling and 3D map modeling
- effect designers will work on effects for map and battle scenes
- motion designers will work on motion for things like monsters and characters

I just realized that there are probably a handful of people on GAF that know upcoming games for this system that would be screwed if they said anything. They're probably lurking right now. Damn no real news has mad me all paranoid and delusional.

Can't say I'm too excited about that. 3DS is already getting a ridiculous amount of 1st party games, I hope they have enough ready for WiiU. I won't buy it for multiplat ports.

I hope this means their WiiU game is ready for launch

Well I guess the speculation was correct then. Presumably this game ties into that UFO art they showed some time ago.

Game is being made by their smaller, new studio in Kyoto. There's no conflict here between it and Wii U.

Only 2 pages since I went to sleep? Yesterday it was like 15 pages.

Nintendo's not getting RE6 (if I read ShockingAlberto's codespeak earlier in the thread right), and for some odd reason I don't think Rockstar will take the extra effort to port GTA V (whether the Wii U is far more powerful than the 360, or 6 Wiis ductaped together, due to "lack of time").

I am very certain that RE6 will come for Wii U as well. Worst case scenario, it will be released later than the 360/PS3 version. This is Capcom we are talking about. Almost all resident evil titles has been on a Nintendo console. I am even expecting a port of RE5 and also a version of SF4 at some point in time.

GTA V is a different matter. It may or may not be released for Wii U (though, there were some rumors it would).

GDC is getting closer, but I do not expect any game news for Wii U. It´s all saved for E3, the big bang. 10% chance that there might be something game related.
I am expecting some news about the features of the new controller and maybe something more about the online stuff.

Sooner or later there will be leaks from third parties. Hopefully we will get something at GDC.

Personally I couldn't think of a better console for a Baten Kaitos than 3DS. It's the third title so the "Baten Kaitos 3D" would be justified and the touch screen would be awesome for picking cards. (Although I guess the U Pad would work too)

Also, I am hoping whatever they are doing for 3DS will use the Xenoblade engine.

Oblivion PS3 sold really well, despite coming out well after the game actually did.

Difference is, 360 still had a small userbase when PS3 was launched and many were holding out for the PS3 before jumping into "next-gen". The type of consumer who would have any interest in games like Arkham City will likely already be one of the 130 million who have purchased a PS3 or 360 over the past six years.

You are thinking to limited.
You have Wii only owners who may still buy the game. You have double dippers if the experience is different on each console.

But most importantly, there is a reason why Nintendo follows a five year cycle, and that is to capture new generation of buyers. Young kids old enough to play on consoles and ask their parents for one, high school and college kids who can afford to buy their own consoles, as well as young families looking to buy entertainment for their new homes. There are many demographics to consider. And the developers should take this into consideration. Is a straight port all that is needed? Should they add more content? Should they update the game to take advantage of new technologies?
