It woul be really nice to see an agreement of some sort between Nintendo and Crytek as a provider for middelware but i hope that it won't cause any trouble with Epic...

We don't have to forget that in the end, Crytek and Epic are fighting for the same.

Nintendo won't do anything as far as that goes.
They may, read MAY, have Crytek do an exclusive game using the engine (like MS does with GoW).

And that game MAY be Time Splitters 4.

Nope, they'll just create a new NintendoWare. Nintendo has a lot of very experienced tech guys and nearly unlimited ressources.

It might just be more time effective to buy the damn company and all the rights to the engine. Then just make all forward development on it for the WiiU and start adding Japanese developers to the engine team in case the European guys up and quit like what happens with a lot of purchased companies.

They've been pouring massive amounts into R&D over the past half decade. They haven't been standing by and doing only TEV stuff you know :p

I'm sure they already have an engine in place for their internal studios.

House Nintendo need to rally the banners of all the developers which have pledged fealty to them and have them combine their efforts on some form of super title. This title will become somewhat the 'Moat Cailin' of the industry, and so the Wii U will be invincible unless Ironmen take the north.

Who agrees?

pipe dream territory lol

would be amazing though

The franchise is basically dead.
Nintendo could probably get it pretty easy.
And it fits Nintendo pretty well.
It's a light hearted game, despite semi serious tones.

There's a rumor going around that Crytek will be showing a CryEngine Wii U demo behind closed doors at GDC.

We'll probably not find out either way if it actually happened, but I would go ahead and label this as pretty damn credible.

Apologies for pushing my luck - it's more clarification than elaboration I'm looking for.

Are we talking a demo for a sort of Wii U-custom version of the CryEngine?

Or a simple Wii U demo for a game (that may or may not see release) running on the current standard CryEngine?

A stupid sounding question, but hopefully you're seeing what I'm trying to drive at.

Smells faintly of rancid stilton.
My sources tell me Nintendo will be reviving old third party franchise. The first will be Virtual Valerie, to capture the mature market.

ughhhhhhhhhhhhhhhsafskdalksdafkkjdfa I just want E3 to come already. I just know they have a megaton or 2 when it comes to partnerships or games confirmed to be coming to wiiU in the future. I SENSE IT.

Why would using CryEngine be a bad idea though?

I'm not doubting the skill of Nintendo's internal tech people, but the fact remains that they don't have much "real-world" experience developing HD games. We saw a lot of Japanese devs with impressive internal software devisions stumble at the beginning of this gen because of similar inexperience (Square Enix, early-gen Capcom).

Licensing a ready-made next-gen engine would go a long way towards insuring Nintendo maintains their current output level, even increase it.

That's the game that Crytek UK has been working on,isn't it?

I've never been too much into Time splitters but i like very much the tech used by crytek so that may be a good reason to bite..

Do you think it would be more like Crysis 1 (open gameplay in extense sceneries) or 2?

well the most appealing things about time splitters is the MP, can't say how the SP would play out.

Give me my monkeys is the only requirement. Timesplitters on gamecube was the shiiiiiiiiiiiiiiit.

Timesplitters is more like a funny Perfect Dark (original) with time travel than Crysis. Crytek UK was formerly Free Radical.

So what you're suggesting is that Nintendo's been sitting idly by for the last half decade, with all their tech dudes working on extracting more shader effects from the TEV?

Nintendo has never used an outside engine for their main games. And with good reason. They know how to get far more out of their systems than any middle were every could.

Well, any theoretical TS4 would probably be a lot more linear and story based.

Ah yes, I had forgotten that Capcom have bent the knee to Nintendo, but what about Sega? It seems like a shady alliance at best considering the blood shed in the past between the two. I think there's always the chance that they'll betray their liege lords and try and reclaim power once more. I imagine Hajime Satomi is liking the thought of being 'Lord Paramount of the East'. Nintndo would be wise to try and marry Reggie Fils Aime to one of Satomi's daughters, keeping her hostage in Nintendo HQ to prevent them from trying anything.

Nintendo should be pleased that the full might of Ubisoft appears to be on their side, I just hope Ubisoft do not hold foul intentions.

At most I could see a censored version of Kana: Little Sister on the Wii U. Though other visual novels could probably work really well with the Wii U remote. Fate/Stay Night (all-age version), Clannad and so would be a nice addition to what Nintendo usually offers. And as they've expressed interest in e-books, there's manga as well.

That is true, however Sega have gained a lot of power since then. As I mentioned, it'd be wise for Nintendo to marry off Reggie..

What is the relationship like between Namco Bandai and Nintendo these days?

Sega's power only comes from making games for Nintendo, though.
On their own, they are powerless.
Also, I believe Reggie is already to be wed to Capcom's daughter, in exchange for Resident Evil and Monster Hunter.

Uhhh...no?

But I really doubt that many of the other devs who've stumbled this gen were just sitting on their asses until HD gaming hit consoles. Like most other industries, there's a big difference when it comes to prepping and releasing an actual retail product. Just don't think it would be an entirely outlandish thing that they team up with a company that has plenty of experience in that regard. And they have been pretty chummy with Crytek, it seems...

Capcom gets shit on a lot in these parts and while they do some questionable things, when they are on, they are still one of the best developers out there.

The day Capcom stops making games for Nintendo systems would be a depressing one for me.

I wonder what the possibility of shipping a cry engine based game at launch. Surely it could launch with Crysis 2.

They could easily port over Crysis 1 & 2 but there's also Homefront 2 being developed by Crytek UK (Free Radical) and being published by THQ who in addition to EA are already big Wii U supporters. They also have Warcry coming out soon too. Could be a lot of things really.

On another note - I'm curious about the streaming ability of the tablet. Does anyone know if using the tablet will improve framerate and add anti-aliasing? Being that it's a lower resolution it might be possible, but there hasn't been a lot of talk about the performance of the streaming functionality. Is this something that's possible?

Good, then Sega should not be a threat, but a close eye must be kept on them as we do not know where their loyalties lie. As for Capcom, let us hope we do not see another Red Wedding, Nintendo must send a strong host alongside Reggie or risk losing it all.

Timesplitters would likely benefit from being Wii U exclusive than another multi platform FPS to forget about. The level creator could utilize cryengine's creation tools and the Wii U screen in tandem for some awesomeness. Additionally Timesplitter's multiplayer game types could be made really interesting with the Wii U controller. Don't forget the tech developed for Star Wars Battlefront 3, so TS4 could be a real kick ass title. Well if some of you would prefer Homefront 2 instead, be my guest.

Why is the CryEngine on the WiiU interesting though? If the WiiU is 360ish technically, then the CryEngine running on it makes sense no?

I have a question for you crazy people. If the WiiU is an 360 in tech, what are the odds of 720/PS4 games coming on it then? Since I'm a 1 console guy that's into Nintendo games. What are the odds I can play games other than Mario and Zelda on the WiiU?

House Crytek are new to the field but already bear incredible power. Nintendo would be wise to be wary of them, especially considering that EA has already made their move on them.

Well it's like Call of Duty... who *really* plays those games for the singleplayer campaigns anymore?

I think a lot of people still do. Crysis is arguably the most successful this gen but I thought TimeSplitters 3 had a pretty good campaign and could be played co-op thru the whole thing. If we're talking about pipe dreams, I'd love to see a new Turok on Cry Engine 3.

I do, I thought the MW3 campaign was spectac

In the UK they have a BBC iPlayer channel, I would expect them to have it for the Wii U (unless they try and charge for access).

They explicitly can not charge for access to iPlayer, thanks to The Unique Way The BBC Is Funded. I'd hope it's a given on the Wii U, and if it streams to the pad, that'll be fantastic.

The fact that they can sqeeze out a game such as skyward sword on an upgraded tech from 1998 would only show how much nintendo is capable of using the hardware to its fullest. I wouldn't be surprised that the guys who did the zelda demo were using hardware that was even lower in power than the 360 but are still able to produce a better looking and moving game than all 360 games at the moment. Imagine what they will be able to do when they are using assets at a much higher quality.

You have to remember that nintendo already has their artists doing high resolution assets. Those other devs who stumbled are not as good as nintendo plain and simple. It might be better to give nintendo more credit with regards to programming skills and maybe give less credit to middleware for making games on a phoned in engine look as good (or as bad) as they do. I do agree with that nintendo will partner with some companies for some projects, but Nintendo doing this will alo provide these developers extra help releasing some of their knowledge. I can see nintendo once again having a very big advantage about the knowledge of the hardware so they must partner to give other middleware developers a way of making it easier for the rest of the smaller developers.

It is important for nintendo to make one or two really visually stunning games such as zelda, mario and metroid but what nintendo needs to do is make it easy for the developers to make even more visually stunning games as they do not have the prestige or experience in game mechanics that nintendo games are known to be good for which brings good competition and variety for the consumer. Having good competion will ensure a healthy ecosystem for the platform and might quash the nintendo third party curse. I believe this is why nintendo is teaming up with outside developers such as crytek, vigil, and 4A games to release games on the WiiU early to show other developers what can be done by other developers not just nintendo. Having other publishers also getting in early such as EA, THQ and Ubisoft being able to already come up with new and exciting ideas for existing franchises will also help the smaller developers gain some confidence in maybe bringing their upcoming games to the platform

This is true for Britain (yay!) but bear in mind the launch of the international iPlayer. I could see Nintendo charging for it on WiiU's international app store.

Those games came out on the pc and RUN on cards over 10x the power of the xbox 360 just to make them look ok yet they are still coming out for the xbox 360. His question is basically that if Skyrim, BF3, and Witcher 2 on pc really look like a next generation leap in graphics comparable to what we will see on PS4 and XBOXnext, then why is it possible to make them on xbox360 and ps3 yet people are saying the that PS4 and XBOXnext games cannot be ported to WiiU even though it will be more powerful?
