Katawa Shoujo |OT| (VN, Free, Waifus, etc)

Yeah, that was easily the worst part of her route, and then
when he's at the cemetery proper, he doesn't bat an eyelash
Yeah. Though for a brief moment before they arrived there, I had some doubt that maybe the writer had did something clever and I was completely wrong. I thought that maybe
her father was in a hospital, perhaps in a comma or had serious brain damage. Something along those lines.
Of course, that wouldn't have fit thematically with the rest of her route. Anyway, I just got her good ending. I was fairly pleased. :) I'd rank her route lower than Rin's and Hanako's. I guess Lilly is next. Though perhaps it would be best to get Shizune's out of the way, since it isn't supposed to be very good and save Lilly for last.

Personally, Shizune's route literally killed the game for me when I played it. I was expecting it to be awesome when I first saw her, but after hearing everyone talk about it, I held off her route to second to last. If it weren't for Rin's route I might have ended the game with a sour note. Don't get me wrong, she had a lot of potential and her story could've been awesome, but unfortunately it wasn't.

Yep, felt the exact same way, was hoping that all of the hints that they were dropping was leading to some kind of red herring and that the writer would pull a bait and switch, but nope!
I've yet to play Shizune's. I'm really curious as to whether her route is as bad as people claim it to be. It's a shame as that sort of disability has a high potential for wringing out some interesting moments as sometimes silence says a lot more than words ever could.

D: Maybe I'd best save her route for last then.

Quite true.

Yup totally agreed. I'd probably be wearing a Shizune avatar if her story was better.

It's weird though, reading that epilogue made me realize that she reminds me so much of this girl I had a crush on a few years ago.

Why would you save (what could be) the worst for last? I think it's way better to end the game on a high note with a route that people like instead of finishing it with the one almost universally hated.
That's kind of what I intend to do, but spyhunterzero's comment about it almost killing the game has me hesitant. >_>

(Spoilers for Emi, Hanako and Shizune. Just being safe.) On another note, I tried to get Emi's neutral ending
only to discover that she doesn't have one. I rather like how there is two paths to her good ending, unlike say Hanako's route. I checked a flowchart to make sure. I see that she isn't the only girl without all the types of endings. Shizune's route looks really short, though that could be deceptive. Hanako's looks rather short too, but it definitely didn't feel that way.

Shizune's route probably seems short because
there's a single choice in the entire route, late in the third act (I believe. It's been a while).

There was a whole bunch of potential for her route considering that she had one of the best first acts. Then it just goes down hill as you realize that
Misha gets more attention than Shizune does. Even in her good end none of her character flaws or conflicts are addressed and her future with Hisao is left extremely ambiguous.

Now, I don't mind that Misha got a great deal of attention. She's a pretty decent character, after all, but it was almost all to the detriment of Shizune's character development. She wants to concentrate on student council activities so that she won't have to deal with disappointing Hisao by hanging out with Misha and vice versa. While this is obvious, Hisao never pressures her in to making a decision or in to actually addressing the problem, instead allowing Shizune to brush it under the carpet and have it be abruptly ignored in time for the glaringly unemotional ending. This all despite having the longest route in the game (chronologically speaking. I think either Rin or Lilly has a higher screen/word count).

I mean, you have from the start of the winter semester to the end of the school year. That's longer than Lilly (who has her route end on the first day of summer break or the very end of summer break if you take the epilogue in to account), Hanako (who has her route end before Lilly returns from her initial trip to Scotland, meaning that the entire route is just under over two weeks long), Rin (the final scene of her good ending just after summer break starts), and Emi (who I'm assuming has her route end somewhere during summer break, or at the very least after exams).
Shizune has
less development in months than Hanako has in just over two weeks.
Not saying one girl is better than the other, I'm just sayin' there was a whole bunch of wasted opportunities for virtually anything in there.

Christ, that's a whole lot of spoilers.

(Emi route spoilers) Hisao is so unbelievably dense. How has he not put it to together that Emi
lost her father in the accident? I would shake him if I could. -_-

Yeah. Was expecting a twist... I wouldn't be surprised if a characture like shizune's dad would be emi's dad ;{

Well Femme, you might like her story...then again you might not. It's basically up to you on when you do her route. Like I said, to me, her story was really horribly done. To others it was alright or Good.

Yea, I told my friend to do Shizune's third, and Lilly's last. He just finished Rin's and called me on Skype swearing at me for showing him this game. :3

I have to write a review for the next mag and I can't figure out how to describe Madoka in a way that hooks the reader but still maintains the surprise.

The official marketing material at least is pretty good about it, the only hint is "Not Your Average Magical Girl Anime!".

Pancakes

hot, steaming, as melted butter slips into the cracks, drizzled with sticky sweet syrup OH GOD
^Basically, I watched up until that episode and just went NOPE NOPE NOPE.

Yeah spoiler that shiz dawg.

It's still really well done even after the episode. Though if you didn't like it in general even after that, then it probably wouldn't change your opinion.

It was my favorite anime of last year next to Steins;Gate and Nichijou.

Anyhow, speaking of Madoka:

Spoiler that shit Billy.

I was very impressed at how oppressive Madoka feels even prior to episode 3. Subtle stuff like the school being waaaaaay too big and large and empty and the world feeling kind of oddly dilapidated despite being fairly modern and shiny, the background art goes a long way.

A FUCKING PITY ABOUT THE CHARACTER ART JESUS CHRIST.

Yep. Most people said to give the show a chance until the end of episode three. Still didn't like it so I stopped watching. Not saying it's a bad show but different strokes for different folks.

I think Madoka definitely takes some time to wind up, and I also heard to give it til Ep. 3, but I didn't really find myself interested in the show until Ep. 5. Either way, the core plot mechanic has been done before and better in other series, the rather flat character development takes away a lot of punch from the core reveal. Steins;Gate has a similar idea at heart but is executed FAR better IMO, that said, Madoka is still worth watching, and especially for the surreal artwork that populates the alternate dimension.

Nice to see this thread turn into a chameleon. Wonder how long till we've covered all other threads that when into chaos lol

Dang at that spoilers....Must watch this show now as it has interested me. Ohh wow, memories of I like Feet surfacing
