I just did my first Hole In One in this game.

Bronze Class, Al Arabian Golf Club, 14th Hole

I didn't even use a special shot either. ^O^

I want to travel to the Clap Hanz studio and break the fingers of anybody who had a part in designing the Al Arabian course. It's infuriating.

You didn't do them in official rounds. Rounds with conditions like unlimited power shot and Mega cup etc do not count.

3 more crowns to go. Man I messed up good on today's dailies. Back out of the top ten for me.

Just checked the 350. I did it in the first opportunity of the Silver Rank, first hole of Legacy. No special conditions. I had a good down wind and I did the tilt along with perfect timing. Best drive I've ever had, 351. No trophy.

I am just going to make a few points about online play after having spent a few hours with it today:
-Lobbies are great. They are sort of low-tech and fun like something you'd see on AOL or Prodigy in 1993. I realize that all of this stuff is 99% the same as the PS3 version but for the most part that's cool.

-Having to book a time for a tournament and then be there 7m early before it starts etc. is really aggravating over time. Can we build any efficiency into the system? If everyone is done shooting do we seriously have to run down the remaining 80s of the overlong shot clock?

-Someone complained about this above but it's a bummer they don't have private games on here. It's almost like they're mimicking the PS3 release to a farcical degree. PS3 also started with no private games afaicr and then a while later rolled them out. Why can't we have this functionality right away? Not hugely terrible but yeah we can't really have a real tournament without this. Also you don't have all the cool features of the private rooms like watching other people take their shots etc.

Picking this up tomorrow, finally. Going to trade some stuff in I think and pick up a £50 PSN voucher (hoping HMV stock these), I've been mostly physical for launch but I already can't be arsed messing around changing carts. :p

Licorice-flavoured booze?
Has anyone on here mastered the extra power shot (the blue one) using the tilt?, care to explain how you do it?

edit -

Got it!

God that extra boost really adds some yards, great for getting those eagles.

Why would they they not show the Crown requirements until after you get it? Thank goodness for the op and post on the previous page.

I think that is Sony's evil plan, make the card slot as inaccessible as possible to generate more digital sales. It has worked with me too, I think everything from now on will be DL.

so what is it?

It's not easy, the way I do it as follows,

With the power shot enabled 'square', I pull my vita back slowly and hit 'x' to start the swing, I continue to pull my vita back, at the peak of the swing I hit 'x' again and at then I start to push my vita forward and then hit 'x' again on the perfect section of the impact zone, I don't stop pushing my vita forward, I follow it through, I stop moving the vita after I've hit the ball, it's a gentle motion, not a flick or anything, like a slow golf swing, if your successful the ball will have a blue trial, but for this to work you have to have to hit a perfect swing.

Practice in the training section, you can keep restating the shot there.

Just started playing this, you guys can add me:

Can somebody help me with telling how the points are given?
I don't understand how the scoreboard works. How much do bogey, par and birdie give? What about amount of turns?

I think Birdie is 200 points, par is 100 points, bogey is nothing. Points don't really mean much on the scoreboard, as long as you take less shots overall than your opponents. It's only used as a tiebreaker when you guys have the same amount of shots in the end. At the end, your points are totaled, and you use those points to purchase items in the store.

Par basically means the amount of shots to stay even, or 'average'. Birdie means it takes one less shot to get it in the hole, and bogey means it takes one more shot than par to get into the hole.

Is the online in this game region locked? I haven't played online yet but it keeps saying stuff like "play against other people around the country" (in Japanese) and it sounds so much like it's locked...

Otherwise, is there some sort of scoreboard for each course or something like that? Or.. is there some way for us to actually compete in any way?

If so, my ID is Mik2121

I'll delete a couple guys that never go online on my friendlist so I can add some of you guys.

I usually see JPN at the top of the daily tournament event leaderboards.

I'm not sure of the lobby though, because I haven't played in there.

It's hard to say since you manually pick a country tag for your online profile IIRC.... One of the top guys online has a JPN tag but can't say for sure if he is using japanese version or not. Who is tops on your leaderboard? For me it's that Zephyr guy and Unseen.... I see them in lobbies most of the time too

Slowly climbing up the daily tournament rankings - now 39th! Though, I tend to think it's because i've played every tournament round... But still! Woo!

Also - gold challenges are pretty hard! I can't wait until that last course is used for some tournament play...

Did the shot land in the rough or on the green? Maybe it has to be 350 yards and land on the fairway.

Edit: only dropped to 9th in the dailies.

I would have thought a new game would incorporate some modern day multiplayer features like private games with invites, especially with a new system rollout. The way that messaging exists on Vita right now wouldn't make any difference because people wouldn't even get the invite until 15 minutes later.

I'm sure they'll have whatever HSG PS3 had (I don't think private invites) -- i.e. private games where you can set everything and then also see peoples' players on the green with you. What surprised me was that that wasn't enabled for launch. Not a huge deal as I think most people are still figuring out the game, but hopefully we don't have to wait months.

Good God, I've really hit a wall in this game. Got to the Pro challenges, and I can't seem to finish higher than 12th place. As it stands I'm still just whacking the ball though, no rising/homing shots or spin used. Guess I need to learn how to actually play this game before I get too frustrated with it.

Rising and homing is not important at all for getting through that level and even doing well in online play. Shaping your shots definitely is though.

So I'm new to HSG...is there a way to tell if your spin worked?

I've been trying to put backspin on the ball in situations where I chip and want the ball to not roll far. So I push up and do the backswing portion, and then down for the last bit when I contact the ball. I've also done it the opposite way, I've also just held each way the whole time and it seems to make no difference on how the ball rolls. Doesn't seem there's any visual cues that you are doing it right. Same problem for spinning left and right. I just can't figure out what is going on. The game doesn't explain ANYTHING very well....but it sure is fun.

After you've made contact with the ball, look at the ball icon on the lower right. You'll see a red dot on the ball where you made contact. If it's low on the ball, you'll have backspin. If it's high, you have topspin. Obviously on the sides would be sidespin.

It's hard to stay up there. If I have a bad day, I drop. If I have a good day, I hardly move. This game and Gripshift are the only games I can hang with the best.

Thanks for the explanation. I feel dumb now for not noticing that :)

That throwing stick stunt of yours has boomeranged on us.

also if you do that super spin shot correctly there's a visual thing, I think the flight of the ball is bright blue and there's a sound at impact.

Last Hot Shot Golf game I played was 2 on PSX 10 years ago...

Is the magic still there? Are there other game cameos like in 2 (Twisted Metal clown for example)? It looks wonderful on Vita!

Some players also have a natural hook or slice with their shot. You can tell on the player select screen. Some players also have low, mid and high shot trajectories. all important things to consider when trying to hit around obstacles or getting out of a bunker. Nothing worse then getting a "boink" because you hit the top of the bunker.

I encountered another glitch today. I had an impact button press not register, get the skull for not even selecting impact and the wifi selection screen popped up while the shot was in mid flight. Not too big of a deal as I was just on the bus grinding for money and loyalty but I'd be pissed if that happened to me during a daily.

If you do the inputs correctly for super spin (UP during backswing, DOWN during impact) and get perfect impact, the marker will be blue.

They've toned down in this game when the backspin actually works however. In HSG5 you could I could hit a 4I with a character with a modest spin stat and super backspin would work. Playing this game with Yuna, I've only gotten super backspin to take with higher number clubs.

How do you even do the rising shots and stuff?

Evolved1 said:
Perfect impact is exactly what it sounds like. It's your third button press (first to begin the swing, second to set the power, third to set the impact or accuracy of your swing) and you have to get it perfectly on the line (if using gauge).

To do the rising/homing shots... these require hitting the pin with some type of super spin, which itself requires perfect impact.

To do super spin, you hold the dpad in one direction when you set the power, and then in the opposite direction when you set the impact.

So for example, to do super backspin... you would hold up on the dpad when setting the power, and then down on the dpad when setting the impact (third press). And for it to register, you have to have perfect impact. And for that to turn into a rising/homing shot, you'll have to hit the pin.

lol... a lot has to go in your favor. Also, in order to do rising/homing shots, you have to have enough loyalty with your character.

It's really not that big a deal though. I don't know if I've pulled one off in online play yet and I have 1 win, 1 2d place, and 8 notable finishes in my 10 matches and I use spin on almost every single shot too.

Yesterday I got super spin without perfect impact. Has that always been in? Was playing with a character with S spin so I'm sure that played a role.

I was wondering about that. I wonder if it only does work with certain clubs...

The character's spin level seems to matter much more than it did in HSG5

I'm using Izzak now (the last char you unlock) with Infinity 3 Club and Infinity 3 Ball, so he's at "S" on spin and he'll get super backspin even with the 5W (a club that hits 230-some yards for him, I think).

Yeah spin always works better with clubs with more loft.

Side question: Has anyone landed in a divot? I don't recall ever landing in one, yet remember landing in them in previous games.

Yep, that was in HSG5. You could hit with a PW or SW, miss perfect impact and still get a red backspin or "normal" backspin. Super backspin will always have a blue backspin flame on it.

I think divots were last in hsg3...haven't seem them carry over from round to round since that game...it was a nice touch though having them in there.

I wish they would bring back the different seasons for each course when you could play spring summer fall and winter...same courses but each season would play a bit different...

Ie more roll playin a frozen winter course...
