Asura's Wrath |OT|

I REALLY love the English voice acting in this game. But as a person who was influence by Buddhism culture since childhood, I mush say you can only feel the "Buddhist power" when those words written in kanji if you have such background. Nevertheless the localization team has done a really impressive work. I am looking forward to the DLCs and want to know what is going to happen.

Do the QTEs in Asura's Wrath actually have any outcomes beyond "success" and "fail, try again"? Because a big part of Heavy Rain is the fact that the QTEs actually matter and aren't just a way to force you to pay attention to the cutscenes.

It's basically 'success' or 'fail and your score at the end of the mission will be shitty.' From what I can tell there is no trying again. You just get a worse grade, or if you fail a combat QTE you take some damage. The QTE's in this game are just a superficial way of making it a game instead of just a series of cutscenes with crude gameplay interspersed.

Finished this a while ago. I really enjoyed it. The story is really entertaining. the characters are hilarious with just how over the top they are and the gameplay is great. I do wish there were more gameplay though, especially as
Yasha and "Super Saiyan" Asura
. I didn't find the game too hard. Was playing on normal and I only died 2 or 3 times,
Final battle, Yasha vs. Asura, Asura vs. Yasha
but the fights were all pretty easy once you figured out your opponents techniques.

The music is fantastic. I need the soundtrack for this game. That Yasha's Theme is so damn catchy.

Can you actually point me the posts you think are "shitting up" the thread? Do we really only allowed to put glowing opinions/really looking forward to it/THIS GAME IS GOTY! posts in OTs now?

I come to an OT to find out more about the game itself, and oftentimes for me, reading what other people really think is often a lot more informative and helpful than the OT itself when trying to decide whether I should shell my money for a game or not.

......Holy shit this thread moves like a lightning bolt.

There were quite a few posts early on that pretty much stated "lol non-game watch it on YT" which isn't very constructive.

That said, this game has my attention.

Just finished Part II and will start III tomorrow. How long does Part III take and how many chapters are in this one?

Just finished Part I, and holy fucking cow this game is more than amazing. I just love it. It's just so crazy that "over the top" is an understatement.

I got the game on Saturday Night and didn't get to play until today. Stayed up til 3:38 playing to get the true ending. Sooo good. So so good.

My friend translated this thing. He'll be happy to hear this!

Asura's Wrath is a fuckton of FUN.

All the talk about the game being a gloriefied QTE anime doesn't do the game justice, as I've never played something that tries so hard to blend presentation+game and succeeds in a such a gracefull way.

I WANT MOAR.

Eagerly awaiting my copy to arrive. Stupid UK delay is leaving me anxious. But I'm delighted to see that the majority of opinions have been positive, especially after the all the relentless poo-pooing the game's been getting here. It's also great to see a developer taking a risk and trying to do something unique.

From now on whenever someone on GAF pulls the "games can't tell good stories!" card I will tell them to play Asura's Wrath. When they say its not a *game* I will tell them to watch Asura's Wrath

and they will thank me

I'm glad to see more people enjoying this.

Last night, during an "All S" run, I realized something. The game doesn't "punish" you for failing the QTE's, it rewards you for perfecting them. One instance in particular I can think of is
one of the Yasha stages. You can fail the Wheel QTE and just continue to run down the hallway or complete it and be treated to Yasha hijacking one of the wheels and riding it.

I couldn't find it. There's no music from this game on YT. Someone said the OST comes out next month sometime, so I imagine it will show up then.

e: never mind. I guess I should have looked more recently.

I just beat episode 9, and i'm having A BLAST with it.
It's such a fresh, bizarre experience.

The setting is astonishing, and so is the soundtrack: this weird Hindu/cyberpunk crossover seriously deserves a lot more than just one single game.
in before: we'll get DLCs

A friend and I managed to finish the game in a few sittings over a couple of days. I felt the game peaked 2/3rds of the way through - for the people who have played it - around the point that
Asura turned into the demon/berserker - and Yasha beat the shit out of him
.

After that it all became a bit samey to be honest. I enjoyed various elements, but it kind of flat lined for me after that point. While I enjoyed what gameplay there was - there wasn't nearly enough of it. The gameplay that was there was reasonably good - I'd argue that the battles with regular enemies are the worst the game has to offer. Boss fights and on-rails sections were remarkably fun and far more impressive. The 'true' ending was interesting and worth getting S class ranks - but outside of that, the game has zero reason to go back to it - unless you love achievements.

That said, it's the first game I've played where someone did a gigantic fly kick into mega-ship, and the closest to a DBZ game I've played in quite a while. A highly recommended rental.

Finished it yesterday.

Immensely disappointed with it, in just about every way.
There are people really enjoying this and posting their reasons.
Considering you finished it, surely it can't have been that terrible. I find it bizarre that people continue to play and even finish games they find disappointing.

Would you mind telling us why/how it disappointed you? What were your expectations? Your impressions may be useful to people still on the fence.

I read on another forum its from a certain number of s ranks

Actually there is a short description displaying on every gauge selection page. Maybe you can double check it in game?
But it relates to trophy so I think I remember it correctly. Blind Master gauge --> Mortal gauge --> Final gauge (I haven't unlocked yet)

I'm still on the fence about this game. Some of it looks atrocious, such as the hot springs but other parts seem to have beautiful visuals and a nice mix of mythology and sci-fi. It's anime-ish and I'm not a huge anime fan, with the exception of Death Note and a few others but I love Dragon's Lair, Space Ace and games like that. I even use to own Time Gal on the Sega CD. Those old laser-disc arcade games were my favorites so much so that I was a Dragon's Lair nuthead. For that reason, I think I would enjoy this game.

Hmm well friend I'll have to see as I get more s ranks on normal

Getting S ranks on some levels is a pain in the ass. I blitz through without getting touched and still miss it. D:

(This was on hard at least)

Come on, you know you want it. Don't be shy.

Loved the game all the way through. Well, up until the end. I excitedly started the 'hidden chapter' as soon as the game ended,
only to find out I would be playing the exact same chapter up until the final 30 seconds or so. Having to do all that over immediately after you've just done it really killed it for me, thought they could've changed more or at least had a "skip until the end?" option.

Crazy, jaw dropping stuff in this game. Endgame spoilers:

It's never explained why the Vlitra Core and demon Asura basically look the same, right? Is that just symbolism for "this guy is really, really, really mad" in the universe, or something more significant to the plot that I'm missing?

I also wish they gave more background about Asura's power, and why his daughter is so powerful as well. I get it that it comes from his wrath, but was he also blessed by the spider/true god? How long has that thing been dormant for, since before the Emperor? They explicitly state Asura still has "it" inside of him after the true ending, not sure why he wouldn't be stripped of his power after playing his role in destroying the demigods and Gohma. The spider did take over his daughter's body after all, seems like the kind of thing that would piss Asura off.

Well congratulations! You got yourself caught!
Finally played the demo and am really hoping it didn't spoil the insanity. The second sequence especially obliterated the insanity of the first one. Really would like to experience this at some point.
