not saying this will happen, very much doubt it, but they could go 360/next xbox & PC alot of MS games are also on PC and the rumors of windows 8 and next xbox being compatible and the windows 8 phones... that would be a much bigger crowd. When 360 launched MS went after alot of the Sony exclusives, could they be doing the same with their next launch?

I don't see where thatgamecompany fits in MS' architecture. Even XBLA. Sony tends to give their first party companies way too much leeway (GT, The Last Guardian) and I don't see MS doing that at all. Multi-platform seems best for tgc.

Why not stick with Sony? There games sell and people love them.

Maybe they just take too long like Team ICO, but imo there games are worth it.

Yeah... and I'm not really sure they're going to do better if they go mobile (ugh.) or multiplat.

Oh well. I hope I enjoy Journey because Flower didn't fit with me.

I just think it's blown way out of proportion. we know that Ueda like minimalistic fairy tale theme with his games, his character in previous has obvious gender roles/stereotypes in it. Ico is a boy doing all the puching and climbing while he help the fragile Yorda. Wanda is the male warrior doing all the climbing and killing colossi while Mono is sleeping waiting. just like the old fairy tale with prince charming saving the princess.

so imagine you're Ueda thinking to develop Last Guardian, by default he think to make the main character a male because that's what his previous work has been. then he think of the possibility of main character to be a girl, at this state, his mind is still within the gender stereotypes of female being the fragile feminine character, so it'll wear skirt and have less stregth than a boy, then they come with problem of player seeing underneath a skirt etc. at this point, why make the main character a girl at all if she'll dress like a boy, and have the strength of a boy,and serve no other purpose for his story.

I think it's a very logical train of thought. I never felt Ueda is being sexist when he explain the reason why it's not a girl.

I agree that both Ico and SotC were renditions derived from age old fairy tales where a prince tries to rescue a princess from the clutches of evil. And I think you have a point that Ueda's thought process has been confined that norm of the fairy tales. That is precisely why Clements was pushing it. He wanted to know if his perception is confined to games or not and it seems like it isn't.

Don't get me wrong, I applaud his previous works and his myopic perceptions, as long as they don't limit the game, should be kept aside far from using it as ammunition against him. But the fact is, Team ICO hasn't been able to produce a game since 2005 and the next generation is just a year (and few months) away. I recently heard on podcast Beyond that Ueda's vision is conflicting with his team which is delaying the project altogether.

Sony actually owns Team Ico and everything they make. The employees are employees of Sony Corporation. Once Team Ico is dissolved those guys will work with everyone else at SCEJ.

I think they already do, actually. People talk about "teams" in a company but realistically these groups are a lot more fluid in Japan (SCEA's teams are like this sometimes actually, even something with a low internal output like Santa Monica, look at the three God of War credits compared to Kinetica or some of the titles they assisted on and you'll see carry-overs but not nearly as many as maybe you'd expect.) Team Ico revolves around its creative directors but I'm not sure they're all sequestered into the same section of the room. Same with "Project Soul" or "Team Silent / Team Siren" (a rare exception is Tales Studio, which was apparently the remnant of Wolfteam though I'm not sure how antonymous they were by they time they were renamed, and in fact Namco made news that it had dissolved this group whereas all the other teams quietly disappear.) EA's Visceral group wasn't anything special in the corporate scheme before they released Dead Space, and that naming was a strategic branding more than anything else. Even now I'm not sure how remote the group is from the rest of the Redwood Shores office; I'm sure Tiger Woods or Sims guys get sucked up into Visceral projects every now and again and mostly nobody notices the shift.

Team Ico has always been described as a tiny unit, but clearly they eventually amass enough talent to do huge and detailed projects. It's hard to say how many people are working on Last Guardian at any one time, but I don't think this idea that it's a gigantic black hole sucking up every resource at SCEJ is correct. People do a little of this, a little of that, and Ueda and a few others are the only ones who really need to panic over job security as development drags out. Sony won't kill the team, just the future projects.

I'd guess they'd want to try out mobile gaming. Can't wait for more quality devs cooking something for the ipad.

Do we actually have examples from studio's going from console-holder backed to multiplatform this generation where their new game is a bigger success? Can't think of someone.

Ninja Theory failed, still waiting on Bungie and Insomniac. From Software could be used as an example for Demon's Souls to Dark Souls.
Level-5 hit it big this past gen when they dumped Sony and started selfpublishing on Nintendo systems. Not exactly multiplatform there, but I'm guessing neither will be TGC's future endeavors.

Stay with Sony for a while and give us Journey/Fl0wer on Vita!

I was going to post something like this when the thread started, but not sure if that would constitute as port begging, but cross-platform Journey on Vita would knock my socks off. Hell, any of the tgc games on the Vita screen would be godly.

Well, wherever they go my munnies shall follow. :D

Well just because their contract is up doesn't mean they won't still develop on Sony's platforms will it?

They will probably develop for psn/steam/xbl/ios.

I never liked their games to be honest, I thought flow (got it free from a sprint one week promotion on PSN IIRC) sucked. I also tried the demo for flower and thought it blew as well.

With that said people seem to like their games and they are definitely unique. I'm sure they'll find a larger audience by going multiplat.

I hope for Steam as well. Would be amazing. Either way, best of luck to them. One of my favorite devs this gen w/out a doubt.

Flow was a pretty forgettable game, it's not bad but nothing memorable ever came out of it. Flower on the other hand I absolutely loved the first time I played it, incredible ride if you ask me. I get a really good vibe from Journey as well, I just hope they still make games for Playstation since that's what I game on. :/
