Does anyone elses L trigger stick or hang a little if you catch it at just the right angle? It's noticeably different for me and both units that I've had (had a faulty touchscreen in the first unit) have had this L trigger hanging thing. I notice it the most in Unit 13.

This game looks so gorgeous on this screen. (Bilinear Filtering on, Color Space off)
Art style fits the OLED very well.

Can you post more images of the gameplay and any impressions?

Thanks

Just finished Touch my Katamari

and the entire game is ONE HOUR LONG. My playtime (including a few retries of stages) was 1 hour 15 mins when the credits rolled. Wtfffffffff, this is on par with Ridge Racer Vita as a SCAMCO production. There's maybe 10-15 stages total and a lot of them repeat the same areas. There's basically 1 bedroom, 1 fleshed out city with a few areas, and FINAL WORLD stage which is the smallest final stage I've ever seen in a Katamari game. It even has BORDERS for christ sakes. And you can get from one side of the final stage to the other in about 5 seconds. Rolling around the universe, or even the world, this is not.

On top of this, the graphics are a mess and they really AFFECT the gameplay. Everytime you grow, all the smaller objects just VANISH, which often makes the world look empty and weird, but even moreso makes the game tougher and feel more linear because there's less stuff to roll up. AND on top of it all, once you get big the game has massive slowdown. It's been a while since I played the PSP Katamari but I don't remember it having this problem. The way it handles objects feels more like a cellphone port even if the actual graphic model is on par with the PS3.

At least after you beat it you unlock Katamari Drive (from Katamari Forever) where you can speed through the stages at 100mph. So there's some fun in going through it all again, and then there's Eternal stages for them all. Plus collect-a-thon stuff if you're into that, but the fact is that normally a playthrough of a Katamari game from start to credits is at LEAST 3-4 hours, and usually more like 4-6 hours. So uh, ONE HOUR, is totally not acceptable.

The game also lacks any imagination at all and has no creative stages. Plus all the areas in the game are straight out of previous games, I can't think of one new location that I hadn't seen before. A few objects are new (vita game cards/systems), and I think the music is new (you need to unlock/buy as DLC much of it), but that's about all the effort that seems to have been put into this title.

Also unlike the other games where you get to use the clothing items you roll up, here you have to roll them up to unlock them in the store and then you have to spend candy (which you get for completing levels) to buy each item, and you have to spend candy to buy katamari/eternal versions of each stage, and buy extra music. So it's a lot of grinding if you want all that instead of just rolling it up and getting it.

And the story was like 5 cutscenes long and they were stupid.

I've played all the Katamari games besides the X360 one and the iphone one and this is the worst one I've played even if it controls a hell of a lot better than the PSP one that murdered your thumbs. It's just totally half-assed, with barely any content and the lack of objects is a huge issue. No love was put into this game at all. Even the credit sequence was a joke.

And it's not like Katamari is just soul-less since Takahashi left after the 2nd game, Katamari Forever was really good! Has tons of charm, content, cutscenes and is just a lot of fun. It was a real comeback for the series, showing someone else at Namco could make an enjoyable Katamari title. But that's not this, Touch my Katamari is a launch money grab praying on people's love for the series :(

Even at $30 would avoid.

Damn, I was thinking of picking Katamari up since I enjoyed the PSP one, and I figured this would pretty much be the same except with 2 analog sticks and better visuals. I'll wait till the bomba price to pick it up.

Dropped in to say that Unit 13 is a friggin system seller for this thing!! Just the the demo is so fucking fantastic!!

Agreed - plays perfectly on the two small sticks and available buttons and touch screen. Demo was frigging incredible both from a gameplay and look/feel point of view.

Until it makes your Vita crash.
Already made mine crash. Weirdly enough the first time I ran it. Did the 20 second power hold down thing, got what looked like a crash report mode on PS3. Chose the first option, which was to do nothing and everything has been peachy keen. Hell, that was like 3 days ago. Honestly it was no biggy. Its no different than having to take the damn battery out of my Droid phone because its locked up. It's a minor annoyance. It's not like the Unit 13 Demo is bricking Vita's.

I was afraid Katamari would end up that way from the review above. I'm a HUGE Katamari fan but I gotta draw the line somewhere with this. It would have been a day one purchase if they had made it seem like they put a little effort into it. I guess I might budge on it though once it goes to like $10 or something.

Don't forget about LBP, Ridge Racer, Warriors Lair, Dragon's Crown, and Unit 13!

Did you get the new patch? Nofi mentioned a 300ish MB patch which supposedly takes care of the frame rate and makes it a solid 30. The content thing, I hope that's fixed for the US release. Amazon says June but someone mentioned it was a March release. As long as it's polished and a solid 30, I will be happy with my pre-order.

So did you just recommend a game you haven't played? wtf

That's not useful at all.

is PSP Katamari compatible vita? better to buy the psp version and play it on vita dual analog stick?

Story - Okay so far. Voice acting and characters are a bit meh, but its starting to grow on me especially when the story is starting to pick up.

Gameplay - Still the good 'ol VC gameplay...as good as VC, if not better. Especially with all the new changes and additions.

Mind you, I've put in about 6-7 hours so far and I still feel like i'm not even 1/4 way through. I can already tell ill be sinking tons of hours into this.

Just my words.

Wanna see some in-game on photos like that, if you got time for that? :)

No prob. Kinda shitty offscreen pics which obviously don't do it justice, but still look good. Wish OS capture was a feature for PSP games :(

Thanks for adding me guys. Now I don't feel as bad when only one other person on my list had a Vita. Psh, I'm broke and still got one which might show what a tech geek I am...lol

Is The Show going to have a demo on Vita this year? I think that'd be key for them to get a demo out and show people that it's high quality like the console games and not completely dumbed down. Clearly, the Vita version got a lot of attention with few cuts from the console version (most being design decisions to make it portable anyway) and they need to show it.

Hell, if I walked into Best Buy and they had The Show running on a Vita, I'd end up walking out with a Vita assuming I had money. It's one of the reasons I got my Vita at launch anyway just knowing that The Show is only right after launch along with Unit 13.

After posting the above a few pages back, my inbox got spammed with requests to do more. :p

So, here you go: I've created 4 additional wallpapers to use on your Vita, covering all main categories you might want:

• PSN / SEN games
• PSone games
• PSP games
• Unsorted apps

customizing_my_PS_Vita_part2.jpg

For anyone interested, I've uploaded the download-link with the 4 new wallpapers:
http://bit.ly/psvita_wallpapers

these are great idea, but taking half of the screen just for category name is too much I think

Ys for Action RPG, Trails in the Sky for traditional. Lunar's still solid but it sounds like most consider this one of the weaker versions, and Trails in the Sky needs more love first, and it's got a similar tone anyway.

Fantastic. I was hoping someone would make something like this.

The Katamari thing. Is the game really that bad? What exactly am I missing out on compared to the all of the previous versions? I've only played the Beautiful demo and iOS game before picking up Touch My Katamari.

I have the same question right now - I know that PSP Katamari would work with dual-sticks (left controls are already mapped to the slider AND d-pad, right is remapable on Vita), but no idea if DD version can be installed on Vita yet. :(
It was arguably my favorite after the PS2 games too.

There's also extra stages to unlock(have to download them from PSN) - Snow being one of them that is always nice to see.

Hot Shots Tennis playable on Vita? I wanted to get it on PSN due to serious withdrawal, but don't want to spend the money unless I can play it right away.
I'm pretty sure I saw it on the European PSN Vita Store, which should mean it's compatible.

They're quite different since one is an action RPG and the other is a traditional command-based RPG. All in all I prefer the Ys series. Also, it's Ys not Y's. The name is derived from a mythological city.

I had a question about the "blotches" found in the OLED screen during dark/fully black moments.

I know that this is a common OLED issue that most Vitas have, but I was also wondering if there was a level of "severity" among the handhelds as well? In other words, if I exchanged my Vita for another, is there a chance I would be getting a lesser amount of black blotches?

The one I have is a large line that takes up most of the top left screen. It's really noticable when playing Corpse Party (a game that is mostly dark).

Just trying to guage, if possible, the common amount of blotches a Vita can have, and whether or not mine is higher than normal.

So nobody probably asked this yet but is Adho c Party available for Vita yet? (Any region). Oh and are there any AR games for the Vita yet?

Does anyone know of a more sure fire way to dash in Katamari then rotating the sticks? Seems to work about 10% of the time for me and half that is me doing it in the wrong direction and flipping direction.

Can't remember the touch screen command for dash but I think it was easier to pull off.

Ah ha, I didn't think to look at the manual but this made me do it. Apparently touching and holding two points on the screen does it. Might be easier but it obviously makes it where you stop moving in the interim. Oh well, at least it seems more reliable.

FWIW, I think Katamari at $25 was a great value. I've played most all of the series dating back to the original and still love the core gameplay personally.

I thought it was only noticable when there was nothing displayed on screen, i.e. some loading screens. if the game is mostly dark it should look brilliant on the screen as it does blacks really well.
