DOOM 4 Leaks [Update 3: 170 New Leaked Images]

Blinded by the luminous glory that is David Bowie's physical manifestation.
Yeah but half their shit turns out to be untrue. They might not be able to trace who posted the shots, but they're fully aware who has access to those shots.

And that's why /v/ has a signal-noise ratio and the same could be said for rumors posted anonymously on GAF or elsewhere. You won't know if it's true or not until it's confirmed years or months later.

And yes, they could track the people down but I seriously doubt most companies are anal enough to sue the shit out of people for dumping/leaking shots of canceled/beta versions of final games.

The should fire it up a little and it would almost be Constantine's Hell.

Thought DOOM in general was set in the future, doesn't seem like it's the case any more if these shots are anything to go by.

Lighting seems far too plain to come from a Doom 4 game (which was specifically meant to veer away from Rage's baked lighting style), and besides, why outright cancel it? It's such a well-known and pretty lucrative IP. Doom 3 was a huge hit and 4 would be as well, fairly effortlessly, I imagine.

Set game in space station: "Too dark, too cramped."

Set next game in larger city: "Not Doom enough."

There's an inbetween. I remember Doom 2 having a good variety of tight corridors and larger open spaces while still retaining the labrynthian map design overall. And dark is good, in my opinion.

I kinda wish they'd go back to that and also not have so many predictable encounters.

Are you sure? I might have missed it but I don't remember them ever saying that, just that 30fps ~3x the detail of Rage. The lid has been on really tight for the game.

I thought that goes without saying. Some of these shots show really tight areas and besides they're just that, a few shots.

Really? I thought one of the few things Rage was praised for was the gunplay, and from the little of it I played I thought it was great.

When you shoot a gun, your crosshair is this ridiculous gigantic thing that you could fit a quarter into, (on a ~22 inch monitor). The bullet goes anywhere within that space. If you want to be able to shoot with any semblance of accuracy, you need to cover up a huge portion of your screen with a giant ugly weapon model and figure out where the bullet is going to go by looking at the sights (which are probably obscuring half of what you're trying to shoot anyway).

It should always hit the center square of pixels in the screen, and the crosshairs should be only large enough to point out where exactly that region is. You need to be able to move at full speed without reducing your accuracy, and the weapon model should never ever ever come close to blocking your view.

That's the minimum requirement for an FPS with half-decent gunplay.

Sorry Tripwire, I guess Red Orchestra doesn't have awesome gunplay after all.

So you say Doom shouldn't be on Earth, but then cite Doom II as great? Confusing man.

Also, as mentioned above, Doom is set in the mid 2100's. It could be a reboot, but then why call it Doom 4? This looks modern day at best. Plus the McDonalds logo, and not seeing any actual demons/anything specifically related to Doom. I be calling the bullshits.

another game set in new york?

dear developers: there are countries other than america and cities other than new york in the world

Can not be repeated enough!

Also Bethesda already confirmed that it's not canceled, but judging by Nirlaks post about the project being a mess I would guess it is being retooled.

Part of the reason I'm not entirely sure this is real is because of the McDonalds arch in this screenshot: http://images.4chan.org/v/src/1330446137797.jpg

There is absolutely no way that would be in an actual game. They'd get the shit sued out of them. Any professional art director/producer would stop it before it even made it out of Max.
Exactly what I was thinking. The universes in id games never use real products/brands, I think. Both DOOM 3 and RAGE were filled with ads and logos of the fictional corporation MIXOM.

I'm skeptical.

But at the other hand, I swear to God I'm seeing reused RAGE textures (and models?) in those screenshots.

Figured it was 30 FPS (on consoles) also because of dynamic lighting/shadowing again. Thought I recalled Carmack saying that in some interview, or maybe I just assumed it. One of the reasons Rage's lighting was pre-baked was to try and get the consoles to that 60 FPS mark.

To be honest, all we knew about the game was that it was set on Earth and being written by that novelist. That's it. There weren't really enough details for us to know if it were retooled or not.

Looks OK for the preproduction shots. It will looks tons better when artist start painting detailed megatexture over finalized geometry.

I was actually hoping that dynamic lightning would return for it so I'm a bit disappointed in that sense if these shots are true. But I guess that's impossible if they want to keep large areas and do some other cool stuff like put more enemies on the screen at the same time. This damn console generation...

There is literally no way in hell, that Doom 4 might be cancelled. Maybe the project at hand might be directed into a new creative way, but cancelled? The most prestigous brand of id Software next to the Quake brand?

That would be insane, and would mean a complete dismantling of id's creative production.

Now I'm sorry if this is a stupid question, but why should we believe this guy if he's just posting pictures that - unless I'm missing something here - were posted a while ago on some Korean site ?

I agree this is complete speculation and nonsense. Those screen grabs could easily be unused assets/levels over the course of 6 years of RAGE development.

Also, the id-developed Quake games have sold pretty well, I believe. Whether they could release another real Quake game in this market, though, is another matter entirely.

Graphically, though some parts looks bad, I think its looking nice. While some areas have basic textures and geometry, others have the opposite mixed with some really nice atmosphere. If this was indeed Doom then Im curious where they were going with it.

Looks a lot better than Rage. Think it looks better than most Xbox/PS3 games. Really glad it's not cancelled!

Edit: hahaha does anyone see Doom II on the billboard :D nice touch ID xD

What the F people ?

I see amazing shoots i'm wow and people are like. Looks ok. Looks like RAGE. Uh not good looking..

Care to explain ? To less concrast for you ? Water is not moving on pictures ? Seriously. From this shoots this can be on par with metro 2033 or better (scale) with a lot of diffrent textures. And still those shoots are taken when game is still developed (???)

I don't care about doom at all but underscoring something looking amazing is not cool with me :)
