What is it?
The launch event for the Windows 8 Consumer Preview

Live blogs:
*Engadget
*The Verge
*Cnet

Will it be webcasted?
Nope

The video of the event is up!
http://www.microsoft.com/presspass/presskits/windows/videogallery2.aspx

It's like 700MB

Important Links
*Windows 8 Consumer Preview Site
*Microsoft Windows 8 News
*The Windows 8 Consumer Preview Bing homepage

Download links?
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-8/iso

So, since I didn't see a topic, I thought I'd create one. I'll still update it with live blogs/important links and the download link when it goes live.

Waiting very anxiously for this, the Developer Preview was awesome IMO. I just need applications to start supporting native features and the new desktop view.

Now, should I partition up my notebook or desktop for this?

Guess I'll do both!

Geez I'm excited, most of what I've seen of W8 looks great.

So how does these previews work? Will there be more before the retail release and if so can I upgrade from inside the OS (ie. without reinstalling the new version)?

There will be a Release Candidate after this, then depending on how many versions of the RC they decide are needed the full release will hit that you have to pay for.

E: I am not keen on the process from Consumer Preview to the first RC, I would however expect it to be a new download working independently from the Preview. Going from RC1 to RC2 should be more of a patch.

All right, thanks!

Subbed. I was happy with the developer preview, but since I've built a new system and have Win 7 running like a dream I'm in no hurry to try any more previews. I will, however, get Win 8 pretty close to day 1.

Any chance M$ is sending out an update for dev preview -> consumer preview for an in place in stall?

Are you serious or are you just playing up your supposed MS-hating persona?
I'm not sure, but either way you need to cut down on the carnival of stupid.

Do you work for MS or something? Who cares if people still use that old meme?

I also want to know what exactly Win8 is supposed to bring to the table for people who don't give a shit about Metro. If I could make Metro go away from my Xbox 360 Dashboard I would be a much happier person, quite frankly, all Metro did for the 360 was make it even harder to find what you're looking for.

What the fuck? If you have personal issues with a product then voice those concerns, but at least on GAF we're above the sheer grade-school idiocy of using dollar signs in company names to convey our discontent.

You seem like the type that would use that unsubtle trolling tactic, and I advise you not to. No one will take you seriously and you'll look foolish anyway.

THE WORDS! They'll drift away without the _!
How big of a HDD will this need? 20GB?

Need to start deleting stuff to shrink my current partition.

Guys, please take this shit somewhere else.

Eh, I'd go with 30GB if you can. Just to be safe.

just finished reinstalling win7 and clearing out a lot of shit, really dont feel like installing another os.
is the installation process/time any different from win7?

Can I use this consumer preview as my main OS I use on daily basis? Is it stable enough for that?

its never a good idea to do that, especially if you dont have any backups of your stuff

i used win7 beta as my main OS with backup for ages

On my old system I dual booted with the Windows 8 developer preview and basically never used Win 7 for about two months. That being said, it's not a good idea if you need a stable platform.

Windu

never heard about the cat, apparently
