Wonder if they'll stick with the first name trend. Both Altair and Ezio's names translated to something like "flying eagle". This dude's could be awesome.

Yeah, I was wondering that as well. I just don't know which language they would pull it from exactly.

I am thoroughly enjoying Revelations, but absolutely could not stand AC 1, hopefully this game just improves on the climbing mechanics as that was pretty much my main gripe with Revelations, and AC1`s repetitive nature. Have not played AC2..should i give it a go?

Yes.2 is probably the best.

Why in the world would you play Rev before ACII?

I wonder if this will tie into the French Revolution? (Disclaimer I haven't played 2.5 and 2.75 yet so I may be ignorant).

Would've been perfect for the setting. Maybe it'll be something for like AC 3.5?
I'd count on it, actually.
Given that he's native american couldn't his name just be "Flying Eagle"?
Well, it would be in the native tongue. So, if one presumes it's Iroquois Indians, then the language follows. And since the Iroquois spoke many different dialectics, they could simply just choose one.

I'm hoping this game achieves the 'perfect mix' of AC1 and AC2 (et al) gameplay.

AC had more open mission design, but nothing to do outside those missions. You could choose however you wanted to approach the actual assassinations and complete them any number of ways, but you always had to do the same sequence of events before-hand and after-wards.

AC2 made the missions much more scripted and linear, and the rest of the games followed suit. The assassinations were much less interesting and multifaceted, but on the plus side, you had a lot of extra stuff to do around the missions.

Give me the big, free-form missions of the first game with all the gameplay enhancements and extra activities of the second game, and you'll probably have one of the best action/adventure games of this generation.

I was hoping it would star Desmond so we could get his story done and over with, but oh well. This guy looks cool too.

Just imagine Jesper Kyd's soundtrack... MY GOD. And an Earth remix with traditionally Native American instruments? Yes, please!

Desmond's still going to have a major role in the game. I wouldn't be shocked if most of the third act was dedicated to wrapping up the whole 'end of the world' deal in the present day.

I really wanted to see the french revolution much more than the american revolution.

I guess the developers figured we got enough of continental Europe with AC2 and AC:B

Assassin's Creed III is supposed to be the end of the current storyline.

Ubisoft has also said they will let the series rest a little after this. But, we'll see.

I fully expect Desmond's story to finish in an "Assassin's Creed III-2" in 2013, followed by a huge series "reboot"/AC4 for next gen consoles in 2014. There is no chance Ubi will sit on AC while it continues to sell 5 million + yearly.

They'll follow it up with Assassin's Steed, a Robot Unicorn Attack clone for iOS with "Venice Rooftops" as the song.

Good bye Italy!!! Time for some change of scenery.

An odd choice, but it might be good. Tomahawk assassinations...mmm brutal.

So this is a game about a Native American assassin in the American Revolution? I'm not seeing how this works. Who will the assassin be targeting? Also kind of surprising they bring such a similar outfit to the new character.

Actually kind of interested now. Design is okay. A bit too complex but it's got a few cool things going for it.

Why is that surprising exactly? that's the trademark of their order. white assassin robes and hidden blades.

As long as the voice acting isn't portrayed as some stereotypical Native American, I'm interested. Prey was horrible at that...

Really hurt the overall experience for me.

"The confrontation between British colonists and native Americans during The American Revolution."

If he's truly native american... where'd the bloodline tracing back to Ezio come from? I could just about see something travelling via the conquistadors.

Mildly surprised this ancestor isn't female, actually; female Assasins are well-established in the series and there's no real *requirement* for Desmond's entire bloodline to me through male heirs. Although I guess from a storyline point of view they might claim that there's an Animus problem with embodying someone not of your basic body shape.

This could not be true at all.

Nothing is true. Everything is permitted.

I fully expect the game to end with us realising that
Desmond is *himself* an animus recreation, controlled by us. Assassin's Creed 4 will be an ARG with a game element, such that the real physical player is a character in the storyline.

I wouldn't have a problem with a female assassin, but I don't know why you'd be surprised that this one isn't female... I mean, it's not as though there's any reason it should be, or would make more sense to be.

As for the line of ancestry, the character is supposedly half-native, half-european (ie, colonist). So the bloodline could have travelled over, found a native wife/husband, etc..

The assassin character in the other games look like they fit into the world. Anyone walking around in an outfit like that (sketchy looking hood covering face) during the American Revolution would stick out like a sore thumb.

Also wondering how well a game where you are killing the colonists will play out.

Honestly, Altair is the only one that ever looked like he fit in there. Watching Ezio try to "blend" is a joke.

The design is too complex for my tastes too, but I'm waiting to see it in action and in the kind of setting and gameplay they choose before I judge. The franchise has been steadily transitioning into a more combat-focused one than stealth anyways.
