You can check here for upcoming Firefox, Firefox Beta, and Aurora's release dates.

This is the roadmap of Mozilla's aspirations and goals for Firefox.

Mozilla said:
Our Mission

Mozilla's mission is to promote openness, innovation and opportunity on the web.

What we do

We do this by creating great software, like the Firefox browser, and building movements, like Drumbeat, that give people tools to take control of their online lives.

What we strive for

As a non-profit organization, we define success in terms of building communities and enriching people’s lives instead of benefiting shareholders. We believe in the power and potential of the Internet and want to see it thrive for everyone, everywhere.

Who we work with

Building a better Internet is an ambitious goal, but we believe that it is possible when people who share our passion get involved. Coders, artists, writers, testers, surfers, students, grandparents—anyone who cares about the web can help make it even better. Find out how you can help.

What drives us

Read the Mozilla Manifesto to learn more about the values and principles that guide the pursuit of our mission.

Congrats on the OT. When will the beta of FF12 be up? Not too keen on running Aurora releases as I've had too much hassle with getting extensions to work properly with them in the past.

I'm on chrome right now. I am not sure if I want to switch back. Flash fucked me up so bad in the past.:/

but maybe thats not FF's fault?

Nice, OT. I use both browsers, but FF will always be my main. And their goals for 2012, if they meet them, could be amazin.

What the fuck do they even change in Firefox or Chrome, anymore. All these releases seem like a numbers pissing contest.

Guys I'm stil on 3.6.2 (or whatever it is).. I'm scared to upgrade because of plugins and skins (i'm using the firefox 2 skin, I love it!), and UI changes etc. Someone please help me through the process as I think the time has finally come to upgrade.

edit: holy shit 12 is coming out? WTF is going on here Mozilla?!

Okay, first of all, let me explain that version numbers are now basically meaningless, but I'm saying this not in a negative way though. Extensions and themes don't break like they used to in older version upgrades. Everything is simple, quick, and efficient.

Also, I'm willing to help you out, as I'm sure many others here are as well!

On a rapid release cycle now with new releases coming every 6 weeks. I feel it's better than the old system, smaller faster updates rather than the long wait of before for them to come all at once.

Most plug-ins now etc. should work, and the UI being Firefox you can customise to look however you like.

If you're wanting it to look like FF2 this add-on may be the one you're looking for if you do upgrade

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/firefox-2-theme-for-firefox/?src=search

New UI ftw, more streamlined and takes up less room.

Oh, what's the worst that can possible happen? UI changes? It's a fucking browser. Also, how can anyone help if you're not specific about the plugins you need? It wouldn't take you that much effort to Google for compatibility. Not sure how or why you would stay on such an outdated version.

Anybody else's Flash player incredibly unstable in 10.0.2?

About 1 in 15 Youtube vids hang for 2 minutes, then crash the plug-in. Annoying as fuck.

There's also some info on the Roadmap page. I want Australis now.

I'm still wondering where my app buttons are.

I switched to Linux because I couldn't afford a W7 disc, and I'm happy with everything except for Flash. It's so damn terrible.

I downloaded Flash Aid for Firefox, tried everything really, and it still is just terrible compared to Windows 7. You can't even go full screen in Youtube without it slowing down, nor put it in 720p. Blip.tv is unplayable.

The thing that sucks is that for the 30% of videos on Youtube that use HTML5, they're slow as hell for me as well, at least in Firefox (mind you this is Linux still, not W7; HTML 5 was okay for me when I used it in W7).

How do you get the HTML5 player in Firefox?

EDIT: COOLPREVIEWS is AWESOME!?!! Why have I been missing out on this?! Much better than the hyperwords implementation. This is why I prefer desktop browsers to that 'touch the web' nonsense.

Was going back and forth between Firefox and Chrome for the longest time. I'm sticking with Firefox since it has better extensions(Secure Login especially) and location bar for bookmarks. Chrome was a bit faster, but I disliked using Lastpass as a password manager and not being able to search through bookmarks using the Omnibar.

Firefox also top in the latest Browser Grand Prix for Windows users

Web Browser Grand Prix 9: Chrome 17, Firefox 10, And Ubuntu - Toms Hardware

With a higher combination of wins and strong finishes, and the same number of losses, Firefox barely pulls off another victory over Chrome. While Mozilla solidified its lead over Google in WBGP VIII, Chrome all but took that lead back, returning Firefox to the tenuous victory is pulled off in WBGP 7.

Opera remains in a comparatively distant third place, while Safari is even further behind. Meanwhile, IE9 is looking more like IE8 in the face of its fast-paced competition.

They are improving UI, adding new features (eg. in Aurora 12 you can finally sync your add-ons - they are automatically installed on a new system if you sync your account; unfortunately, the configuration isn't sync), fixing security, adding/improving support for new HTML5/CSS3 features, improving JavaScript support etc.

Each time a new version of a browser is released there's a changelog, so you can see for yourself what was changed.

So nothing really? :p

There's also some info on the Roadmap page. I want Australis now.

I saw this on GAF somewhere before, and was keen on the look. I just recently made the switch back to FF though just a few days ago, and tried to find some info on when Mozilla was aiming for the switch. I came up with nothing though.

Does anyone have any idea on their road map for this? I saw someone posted something, but the link just says 2H? I assume that means 2nd half of the year? I also wonder how much this change is going to get fucked over by the fact that Win 8 has to be designed for Metro.

PS: Congrats on the OP Izick!

Thank you!

It's still in stage 1, so I'm guessing we still have a long ways to go.I remember reading that Mozilla wanted to implement it in 2012 though, so I'm guessing late 2012, but I can't seem to find a credible source or citation for that, so it's just speculation I guess.

I wonder how much also doing a full Metro UI redesign will mess with this.

I wouldn't think that much, since you're still browsing when you're on the desktop interface which is still really similar to W7.

Only so much main power to go around though, and I'd assume it's a top priority to get a Metro based browser done by Win 8 launch. I know if you're a 3rd party browser you'd like to be the competition in this regard.

I hope both can get done though in a timely manner!

BTW, I've switched to Waterfox, which is pretty much Firefox but 64-bit. I don't -know- that it makes anything better, but what the hell. There's 64 bit Flash, so the only thing I miss out on is Quicktime.

Is the performance between the 2 on a 64 bit computer like night and day?

I don't know about Waterforx, but I use Nightly 64 bit and there really isn't any noticeable difference. 64 bit can address more memory but that's all because the builds aren't really optimized to make use of other possible 64 bit advantages (in fact, things such as JavaScript are heavily optimized for 32 bit and are consequently slower on 64 bit builds).

AddOn sync is in the current beta 11. Some programs like adblock plus do sync your settings over.
