Looks like the game will have a subtle blur to the overall image.

Fuck yeah. So many PS3 titles have it and I love it.

Do you think that it would've been that easy to get a 1280*720 framebuffer and Bungie didn't do it? You did the same question at the American Nightmare thread suggesting that they should drop the 4xAA to up the res at 720p.

Do you seriously think that such a thing will be that simple and Bungie & Remedy are in some way incapable of doing this? or are you implying that the above devs didn't want the best possible IQ for their games? o_O

For someone who looks interested in tech in games you come out as pretty ignorant about the limitations of the 360 hardware and especially edram which is pretty much the bottleneck in both situations.
Alan Wake was 720p 2xMSAA at E3 2009 and in Bungie situation...Well, they made pretty bad decisions regarding Halo 3 and lighting approach in that game so I guess my doubt was pretty justified. Also, you sound butthurth over nothing, there are lots of games that run at 720p and look better than both of those so i think there is just more to it. You CAN achieve 720p, its just that its hard when you constantly update old engine or do wrong decisions like in both of those accounts.

no they didn't. Halo 3's lighting was worth the drop in IQ. Halo 3's lighting was incredible... and really worked to make Halo 3 something special beyond a lesser lighting technique with cleaner textures.

Holy shit. Game looks really, really good.

I figured 343 would nail down most of the gameplay minutia, and judging from the small bits from the trailer, it looks like they have for the most part.

I don't know how I feel about giving multiplayer a story, but as long as it's out of the way, then it can't hurt anything I suppose.

Yea, they made such a good decision that they dropped it in next game saying it was wrong. Hmm...

well, this is very subjective. i thought that halo 3's lighting was pretty run of the mill, just about the only 'impressive' thing about it was that the HDR had a very large range, but it was not frankly very noticeable.

on the other hand, the very low IQ was highly noticeable

DOF in the first shot in the OP looks hella off. Way too...severe / heavy use of that.

Models look absolutely fantastic...but they did in the E3 announce for Halo 3 too. And I will be shocked if that's actually the amount of AA the game will be running.

Cautiously hyped.

Looks like Halo 3's teaser shots / video. I hate teaser shots. Just wait a little longer and show us something interesting.

i think the advancement in deferred lighting techniques post Halo 3 allowed them to find a good middle ground for Reach, but at the time Halo 3 came out, it's lighting was head and shoulders above what came before it on consoles.

just as Reach's temporal AA not being a good post process AA any more isn't really a knock on Reach.

anyways, i'm liking what i'm seeing with the lighting in Halo 4.

Looks good, waiting for a grittier/more detailed halo since the first game.

Well, it still has that Halo look about it, nothing is drastically different or new...And it doesn't that different from Halo Reach.

That said, 6 year old hardware and all.

looks superb. if they manage to fix the joining into game in progress, then I'm all in.

what did I have to buy again for the beta invite?

Thanks for the BR! Can't wait to see those MP maps in more detail, and I hope this can help competitive Halo as well. I'd love to see the Halo 3 ranking system back as well.

I don't know, this doesn't excite me at all.

It really looks like more of the same (which can be a blessing and a curse).

I don't understand why people say stuff like this. It looks exactly the way it's supposed to look, like Halo, given it's a Halo game.

I don't get this. It is Halo. Of course it looks like Halo.

That said, it appears they are doing a ton of things different as well.

On the good and the bad parts. Bungie was a creative developer, but they were never creating technical marvelpieces. When I look at these rough and jagged graphics, It makes me think of The Conduit, which was a Wii game. Man, I Can't wait for Next Xbox.

Halo Reach is considered rather technically impressive by the industry, which coincidentally means it's considered trash by the layman gamer.

You can't put together a team of this many heavy hitters and not have a hit. I've been saying from the beginning this game will be the best Halo since 1.
