But when the doomed luxury liner collides with an iceberg in the frigid North Atlantic their passionate love affair becomes a thrilling race for survival. From acclaimed filmmaker James Cameron comes a tale of forbidden love and courage in the face of disaster that triumphs as a true cinematic masterpiece.

3D IMAX/2D Remastered Release: April 4, 2012

Reviews:

Ebert's Impressions
Cameron has justly been praised for being one of the few directors to use 3D usefully, in "Avatar." But "Titanic" was not shot for 3D, and just as you cannot gild a pig, you cannot make 2D into 3D. What you can do, and he tries to do it well, is find certain scenes that you can present as having planes of focus in foreground, middle and distance.

Original Soundtrack Anniversary Edition

Newly remastered, this set will now feature pretty much every piece of music James Horner created for the film along with an extra disc of music from the era, which isn't the coaster you might expect. Featuring a really nice selection of vintage tunes, it's one that's gonna be definitely worth hanging onto and giving a spin.

I am so there. My wife is meh on going to see it again, but I am all over seeing this on the big screen again. Probably multiple times.

1997...

Has it been so long already? It's actually amazing that the movie still holds up visually after all this time.

I remember a school field trip to a movie theater when this was making it run at the box office. We all went into a screening room with Titanic on the marquee. When we sat down to watch, "Paulie." Some of us could have rioted at that point.

I am actually looking forward to this. I really didn't see it in theaters.

Saw it at least 6 times in the initial run. One time I went to see it, and realized that a showing of LA Confidential started minutes after Titanic ended. So I bought a ticket for that and had an awesome double feature.

Hey remember when some dudes on TV thought that LA Confidential actually had a realistic shot at Best Picture?

That was fun.

sooooo....no cgi has been touched up?? Still gonna refer to the scene where the titanic is in port and the camera flies by everyone loading up. Horible CG people. Otherwise it all looks amazing.

Didn't get the memo regarding the 14th Amendment
It took me a long time to see this because I just assumed this was not a movie meant for me. That was closed-minded thinking apparently because this movie made me a believer in James Cameron's directing ability. It's true that Terminator 1 and 2 are what made me a fan of Cameron, but this movie was something else.

I'm not sure if I'll watch it in theaters, but this should do well, I would imagine.

Having seen the remaster back in February... I can tell you it's absolutely worth it. It cleaned up really nicely, including the CG.

You have not seen this movie unless you have seen it in a theater. Seeing this one a huge screen is a whole other experience.

I just want to know when the 3D Blu-Ray comes out.

It will be fall or christmas. And it will be a lavish release.

The sound better shake the foundations of the earth like it did in theaters when I first saw it. I was so picky as to which theater I saw it in each time I saw it. First showing I went to (early morning opening day, almost no one in the theater) was in a THX certified theater (back when it meant something). I had to see it on a huge screen with bowel loosening sound every time after that.

Watch it in IMAX for dat IMAX sound.

True. Even though my local IMAX is a LieMAX, I might do it. Although, some of the regular screens at my theater are bigger than the LieMAX in there. And cheaper. Actually, the difference between RealD and LieMAX3D is like $1 or so. And I can reserve my seats at the LieMAX. But the glasses suck at the LieMAX.

Hopefully they put the 2D version on one of their huge screens.

Excuse my poor knowledge of science and whatnot, is that because the bones have decomposed....or what? Fishes eating all the bodies? I mean, no remains at all?

More than likely eaten by organisms down there.
A lot of the wood content on the ship has also been eaten away. There are even microorganisms devouring the actual steel on Titanic as well.
