Microsoft Developing "AAAA" Title

I'm painfully aware of all that, it's what makes it so goofy. A game isn't a prime mortgage bundle. It also implies that money = quality(similarly, calling a game 'AAAA' is basically saying "we're spending an even more ridiculous amount of money, therefore it's going to be even better").

At this point, money does = quality.

There's a large crowd for whom the phrase "press A to awesome", if they ever heard it, would be great praise, and who want to be able to bullshit at the water cooler about what they pulled off last night and have the other guy understand. Money can only reliably add flash and push up the advertising budget, sure, but the average consumer wants a game that's, first and foremost, flashy and mass-marketed.

Those who want to condemn this new decadence should remember past megahits like "press circle to summon Bahamut, as seen on soda cans and chip packets" or "dial-a-combo to rip out Johnny Cage's spine, before Congress bans it".

I'm guessing it has something to do with this. Maybe the marketing budget to re-introduce this epicly awesome franchise to the masses (up to and including bringing the original game to XBLA at long freaking last) has to do with tacking the 4th A on there, who knows.

I came in here thinking it'd be detailing a game already in development, so my mind instantly went to Halo 4. You know how when you were a kid, you'd make up characters with your friends who were like insanely overpowered? Like, "he's Batman with unlimited prep time and Hulk strength, but also has unlimited money and bacon and has heat vision!" Because 343 is basically that from a developer/company standpoint. They have devs from literally almost every developer out there.

A steady rotation of Halo/Gears/Fable/Forza has usually been more than enough to keep the Xbox sales train chugging along to Microsoft's satisfaction. Halo and Fable one year around holiday time, Gears and Forza the next, ad infinitum.

This quadruple A business leads me to believe that they weren't able to secure Epic for a franchise/multi-game exclusive deal next-gen and are now looking for a replacement for Gears.

Hey to win the next generation AAA just won't cut it. ;). This needless over hype will likely doom them to fail. Or maybe it will be timeless like the pyramids and thousands will slave away to make this game.

This is most likely the game Microsoft will showcase the power of the next Xbox with.
And I doubt Microsoft will marketing it for consumers with “AAAA” as the slogan.

I think Epic are on board. It's been a mutually beneficial relationship for both companies Epic gets to go balls out working on one platform with no worries of compromises and MS get to push a good exclusive.

Although MS and Crytek seem to be awfully chummy lately. And they also have a competing engine to push..

Epic is going everywhere, but not Gears. MS and Epic seem to have a great relationship, and that's worth gold for both, because one is a console manufacturer and the other is company that thrives on selling engine licenses.

They're both american too.

Halo? Gears?

Did you play Halo on any non-casual difficulty? Judging from this post, you did not...

Regardless, I am not sure we need more AAA(AAAAAA(AAAAA)) games in the market, but whether we want it or not, I am certain that developers cant handle their epic promises in a way that is sustainable *looks at Bioware*

Well, I already can't stand most games that are self-titled to be "AAA," so I can't imagine what this will be.

Other than a shooter of some kind. :)

It's best to ignore RooMHM especially when it comes to Halo it seems to make him all angry and weepy.

Where is that HAHA, OH WOW jpg when we need it most.

Also I'd like to ignore Halo if it didn't do any harm which isn't the case. The number of games sold has lead developer to think the game was good or even interesting and that's very far from my opinion. It has literally killed the FPS genre by puting a console lead for a genre thats not adapted to consoles at all even with the downgrades in gameplay and the over simplification of its mechanisms. Let's see where Arena FPS are now ... I don't see any. Competitive FPS? No more. I think the last one was Painkiller.
Because it has set the nom (I wonder how because its inferior to almost everything that was done before on PC), the FPS genre has known a continual downgrade like a creative blackhole. I'd really love to ignore Halo.

It's not about polluting threads, it's about changing the opinions. I believe that if you prefer something that is worse it's because you don't really know the better games. This lack of knowledge (ignorance of the PC scene) among the gamers is the only cause to this imo. is it wrong to try and show that there are more interesting things?

Haha holy shit i forgot i complied this post last year when he was ranting about guess what...? Halo.
