Unusual UFO sighting in Chile in 2010

Unusual for several reasons: it was captured by 7 different video cameras at a public event, and the incident was investigated by the Chilean government. They were unable to come to a conclusion about as to what the object/phenomenon was.

Leslie Kean reports (on her Huffington Post blog):

One such case has just come to light in Chile, and was presented by government officials for the first time at a press conference on March 13.

It was a glorious, sunny morning on Nov. 5, 2010, when crowds gathered to celebrate the changing of the Air Force Command at El Bosque Air Base in Santiago. From different locations, spectators aimed video cameras and cell phones at groups of acrobatic and fighter jets performing an air show overhead. Nobody saw anything amiss.

But afterward, an engineer from the adjacent Pillán aircraft factory noticed something bizarre while viewing his footage in slow motion. He turned it over to the government's well known Committee for the Study of Anomalous Aerial Phenomena, or CEFAA, for analysis.

The stunning conclusion: The Chilean jets were being stalked by a UFO.

In the clips below, the UFO is difficult to see because it's moving so fast. The clip is repeated with the UFO highlighted as it makes passes around three separate groups of airplanes.

CEFAA officials collected seven videos of the El Bosque UFO taken from different vantage points. Bermúdez commissioned scientists from many disciplines, aeronautical experts, and air force and army photogrametric technicians to subject the videos to intense scrutiny. They all came to the same conclusions.

Each video included three different, mainly horizontal loops flown by the UFO within seconds of each other. The object made elliptical passes either near or around each of three sets of performing jets. It flew past the Halcones, F5s and F16s at speeds so fast it was not noticed by the pilots or anyone on the ground below.
"At this time, this incident cannot be scientifically explained," Bermúdez wrote in a recent email. "As agreed by those who have studied the videos, we can affirm that there is an unidentified aerial object present. We do not know what it is or where it came from."

I hope intergalactic space ships aren't just jiffy pop containers with the handle missing.

that's my one wish.

Don't mean to hijack the thread but if anyone hasn't already seen it, check out the Secret NASA Transmissions on youtube. It's long, but what's revealed is some of the absolute best UFO evidence ever. As for this video, I don't know. It looks real, but seems a little disjointed at the same time.

I understand you guys think Giorgio Tsoukalos is very funny but I don't really see what he has to do with this. Did anyone actually read the article in the OP?

I totally believe that aliens can travel light years, but they have to get within our atmosphere to check us out. We should show them how telescopes work since they have trouble with that.

Can you sum this up please.
NASA used to broadcast space walks and various missions in space (like repairs to the space station, etc.) In a lot of that footage, there are clearly UFOs shown (and mentioned by astronauts) around the space station and in our atmosphere. NASA stopped broadcasting footage years ago (probably because of some of the stuff that's in this) but seeing a lot of the footage makes it almost impossible to say something weird isn't happening in our atmosphere.

From the article:

This extraordinary machine was flying at velocities too high to be man-made. Scientists have estimated the speed, depending on the size of the object, to be at least 4000 - 6000 mph. Humans inside this object could not survive. And, somehow, it made no sonic boom, a noise similar to thunder which occurs whenever something exceeds the speed of sound (750 mph at sea level).

I would think this is enough to question the methods being used to examine this footage.

You can watch live spacewalks on the NASA channel, and have been able to do so for quite awhile.

So where are the pictures or videos of the "seven other cameras"?

What's with all the UFO threads lately? Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence. Even if some of these general vague sketchy sightings involved real aliens what is the point of discussing them if there so little evidence to discuss that you really don't know what happened?

He is always relevant in any UFO story since he reminds of the standard of proof UFO fans use.

It just pops up and disappears again. Looks like those artifacts or w/e you call them that you get when with those film movies.

If there were insects around it makes perfect sense multiple cameras would capture them. They estimate such impossible high speeds despite there being no sonic boom because they assume a distance and a minimum size. How do they justify these assumptions? It doesn't seem that anyone saw these without a camera, which always points to it being an artifact caused by the way cameras work. Sun reflecting off the wings of an insect sounds about right. Remember "rods"?

They don't broadcast them live anymore.

Weird sighting. the logical minds of GAF won't do anything more than shrug in disbelief, so whatevs.

yeah rods were bullshit, but I don't think anyone who was serious gave those the time of day. People were saying they were insects almost immediately after those stories showed up. Then there were the diamond ufos, which were shown to be lights so bright that the camera couldn't display them properly, though still no ideas on what the bright lights were. I prefer skepticism to outright debunkery.

And minutes added on in case some more ice droplets decide to fly around thanks to attitude jets re-adjusting, I know.

I'm assuming the different cameras capture the same thing in the same relative position in the sky, unfortunately I don't have footage from all 7 cameras to confirm this. I find it hard to believe 7 cameras would catch the same fly buzzing around.

As to the distance/speed thing you're right, I have no idea how they calculated that. Unfortunately all we have to go on is this presentation, I don't know that they made the whole report available.

How high would the shutter speed have to be to not blur with an object moving as fast as that UFO? is what's key.

Not too sure but when outside in the daylight you can have shutter speeds up to 1/4000s easily but that thing is moving pretty damn FAST though

I don't think anyone is seriously denying that there is something (as yet) unidentified being captured on the camera. What exactly do you think these "logical minds" are in disbelief of?

I doubt different cameras in different spots would catch the same insect, but if there were insects flying around it's unsurprising that so many filmed an insect of some description.

Only if it's big and far away. If it's small and close by, not that fast at all.

I was referring to the old NASA TV broadcasts, they used to show unprocessed camera footage feeds from the external camera mounts on the shuttles and the space stations, but now they're usually not just a raw feed. Whenever it's "live" for a special purpose, it's probably got a delay due to a number of practical reasons. But the raw feeds aren't around anymore, yadda yadda.

What exactly do you think these "logical minds" are in disbelief of?

I've got my hands in front of me, and I'm kind of squinting at the monitor. "Possibilities."
