Wii U Speculation Thread The Third: Casting Dreams in The Castle of Miyamoto

why would you compare real people dying to our stupid gaming hype? :|
Dude, we played up our gaming hype in the most fucking ludicrous ways for untold amounts of pages in this thread and the 2 before it ("hype train" alone generated something like 350 posts alone). That's more discussion than this train accident in India will get, sadly. Our ramblings have distorted perceptions of what is more valued and important. Consider this the tip of the iceberg if we keep up our self-indulgent bullshit.

Remember E3 threads 6-7 years ago? You know what I mean.

I see the hype train stuff as a joke, people are excited for a New Nintendo home console... in HD finally so that is huge for fans. I expect many meltdowns and bannings come E3 but still does not excuse pointing real world news of tragic events in this gaming hype thread.

we can have hype without the stupid

You guys really need to take a break from this thread. E3 is only 77 days away.

Probably because compared to a normal tablet, the controller looks like a tablet with a big, bulky, white border around the screen w/ controller buttons.

It just looks...dumb :p

I wish nintendo would ditch the sterile white look. Either go super sleek and aggressive or go back to the days of yore and put some color in that controller and in that console. Design wise, my silver gamecube is probably my all time favorite console. The Wii came across as an imposing obelisk when it first debuted, despite its size and lack of processing power. Wii U just looks like...a box.

I just don't like Nintendo's industrial design. Their stuff very much looks more like toys than a high end device. This isn't a slant on them per se, as I understand they are more of a toy company than a lifestyle company but I wish their stuff was sexier. I guess that because they have to hit a lower price point than someone like Apple their materials are likely cheaper I just wish they would build something that looks sleek and sexy and would fit well with a home entertainment system.

That Subscreen also looks rather nasty IMO. Too much space around the bezel and I don't like the glossy look on it based on the glare we see in photos.

Funny that you say that. Each time my 2-year old drops the ipad on the floor, causing yet another dent in the aluminum 'unibody' I wish the ipad was made by a toy company ; )

Eugh, that term. "Industrial design". The Wii U looks fine, as long as they had those pre-E3 grips back and clickable circle pads.

Also, HTC's phone design makes me drool sometimes.

EDIT: AND ANALOG TRIGGERS FOR GC

Yeah it's logic, but i keep seeing some people expecting that, and for the moment, in the DRC used by third-parties in conjunction with v4 dev kits, there's no such things. And no ultra secret additional mind-blowing feature on the padlet, otherwise my sources would have surely told me about them. Now there's still the possibility that Nintendo didn't reveal all to third-parties, but it would be weird that huge functions are hidden this late in development to foreign studios, preventing them to integrate these from the start, from the initial stages of the title design.

Hello IdeaMan. I have read your comment and immediatly this came to my mind: In the EDGE magazine (#238 March 2012 with Far Cry 3 in the cover) they made a feature about the first year of the 3DS (Nintendo 3DS: one year later). They interviewed several developers and when I saw this I couldn't believe what I was reading:

EDGE Quote:

"What happened? For starters, 3DS simply wasn't ready for release. Its digital game store, the eShop, didn't open for business until three months after the system was in players' hands. Worse still, developers working on the system didn't have enough time to prepare properly -those making launch games for the 3DS weren't even aware that stereoscopic 3D was a feature. Julian Gollop, Xcom creator and lead designer of Ubisoft Sofia Studio's 3DS launch game Ghost Recon: Shadow Wars, recalls just how in the dark designers were. "The biggest shock to us was when Nintendo revealed that the upper screen would have stereoscopic 3D, even though we had been using the devkits for a while already"

So, Could be Nintendo hidding key features of the WiiU to delevopers? I'm pretty sure they are. Don't forget E3 is in June and the launch of the Wii U will be in October-December so if they reveal something new they will have time to fix their games to incorporate that.

In my opinion there are very few western developers who really knows how the Wii U end up being. Peter Moore is one of them (He personally traveled to Kyoto to see how things were evolving) and he was very happy after the trip.

Again, I'm sorry for my english skill. XD

maybe stop letting a 2 year old use an iPad?
Why? Pretty much every 2-4 year-old I know here uses one, which is no surprise given there's a metric tonne of AppStore content targeted at that demographic. Fact is, she loves Fruit ninja and the myriad of $.90-a-pop 'cooking' games.

Haven't a lot of companies done this? I once heard that in addition to the 3D-less 3DS', the Wii U's eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeearliest dev kit controllers were touchscreens on a piece of wood.

What's "lol" about that? It's a content delivery platform, no different from Netflix. Not to mention it's on every other device under the goddamn sun.

More like you wish you put a protection case on you iPad.
The ipad has a rubber case - she aways takes it off. I need to find some case that 'locks' onto the device.

The "lol" was my lol at the Kindle Fire/Nintendo post, haha. I'd LOVE Kindle on Wii U, but if Nintendo is having their own eBook store, probably not gunna happen. But, Apple does have iBooks and Kindle on the same platform. Iunno. Maybe.

every time people bring up kindle on something other then the Amazon hardware with the e-ink thing the purist <3 the e-ink so its funny because if Kindle comes to WiiU we get a whole other group of people shitting on the uPad screen, just what we need :p

Huh, have their been any rumors of a Nintendo ebook store? That'd be weird.
