wow.

wow.

wowowowowow.

Konami should be refunding everyone that bought this thing

Wow indeed.

This is why I look for the Bluepoint Games logo on all of my HD remakes

The one with the swirling fog and vivid colours is the superior PS2/PC version. The one with no fog and washed-out colours is the PS2 downport.

Oh, I like the HD version one without the crushed blacks moreso than the PS2 one where the light and darkness washes out any detail you can see in the picture.

You're going straight to bed without dinner and I'm confiscating your cellphone. Just you wait until your old man hears about this.

Seriously though, Silent Hill games are supposed to be dark and oppressive. The washed-out, bright look of the HD version isn't how those games are meant to look.

So you like the boring and non-atmospheric version. That's cool, bro. I won't judge you. (Secretly, I do)

Besides this collection what other collections should be avoided?

Of the HD remakes I've played:

Bluepoint did a great job with God of War, and refined their craft with Team Ico and MGS Collection. Jak and Daxter Collection is great, as well.

Couldn't say personally for other collections, but my friend tells me that Sly's was great

I'd say the Prince of Persia collection isn't that bad, they're just straight PC ports with some audio problems that can be fixed by adjusting the sounds in game and I've only crashed once.

Where as I heard that the Splinter Cell HD Collection was far worse.

I'm still considering the 360 version despite the visual downgrade.

But the censoring shit really bothers me. Is that close up being cut out the only instance of it known so far?

Go outside at night where there are no lights and no moon and tell us how much you can see. It's scarier when you can't see very much without your flashlight.

Resolution isn't everything. I vastly prefer the look of the original games over the washed-out and non-atmospheric look of the HD-versions.

I completely agree here. Whether it runs great or not, this collection has tarnished the original intentions of Team Silent.

I'd return my PS3 version and just grab the PC versions...but then i'd end up paying more. Could just repurchase the PS2 versions and emulate them...but then i'd be out of non-stretched widescreen...

Its funny how all the "official" reviews claim that the graphics are even better than ever. I have to just see how these look in person...I guess I can just Amazon it and get my money back if its as bad as things indicate. Its crazy how people were saying earlier the games even hit what seems like 60 fps at some points yet also slowdown in odd areas.

Okay, just to make this easier for me. I'd rather let NeoGAF decide.

I originally cancelled my order yesterday and Amazon said they'd try to redirect the order back to them. However, they're not too sure if they can due to Canada post being such a great service that always arrives on times and follows orders perfectly
aka the worst fucking postal service in the world that mess up your orders constantly

So NeoGAF if my order arrives my PS3 order arrives: Should I play the game despite all of the problems or return it? I've never played the series and I don't mind a lack of fog or lighting effects as long as the games are playable and not as terrible to actually enjoy as the pre-patch suggested.

Okay, let's open a rare bottle for the occasion.

That's a good one, haven't heard it in a long time. I'm partial towards Cyberspace too (it was, if I'm not mistaken, originally a single B-side, and eventually ended up on the Australian tour edition of SUL).

Edit: Whoah, just found this. Never knew that existed.

Have you played the games before, and know what they are supposed to be like? Keep the game if you want to, and play it for the trophies, or just return it and grab the PS2/PC versions.

Is it your first time playing the games? Return it and grab the PS2 or PC versions instead.

I believe it's also on the SINYC single that's lying around here somewhere. Reminds me of the rare Brian songs like Down on the Borderline.

I've played the beginnings of both Silent Hill 2 and 3 at a friends, but nothing too far. But enough to know that the PS3 version is downgraded. However, I'd prefer to really play it on my TV and I don't know if I really can be bothered to go through the effort to get my PC working on the TV (need a DVI cable) and I lack a PS2 after moving country.

Sure the effects are missing, but I'd prefer to be able to experience the games despite being downgraded.

How does SH3 run on 360? Is it as bad as the PS3 version? I don't care about the graphical downgrades from the PS2 (barely played it back when it was released so I don't care), just performance.

I know they put out some of their rare songs on Backtracks, but I'm sure there's a shitload of stuff kept in the vaults that should be released, like the original version of 'I'm a Rebel'.

I see. I say you should keep it then. It's not the ideal way of experiencing SH 2 and 3 for the first time, but it's better than not playing them at all.

Alright, I just finished the hospital on SH2 360 and here are some bugs....

- If you go in the options and you choose NO at Subtitles, another NO will appear under the sound bars. Beautiful.

- Some distorted sounds during the later save sequences in the menu. Just some weird corrupted sounds.

- The cat sound in the basement loops infinitely which becomes funny then annoying.

- There's a typo in one of the first document you find in the hospital. I think it's the one of the roof before Pyramid Head knocks you off.

- The worst of them all:
During the final cut-scene of the hospital where James tries to open the elevator door to prevent Maria from getting stabbed by Pyramid Head, there's no music and worse, there's no sound effects (neither for James smashing the elevator buttons or even when Maria actually gets stabbed.)
It was with the new voices, which I really like by the way, but without any music OR sound effects, that pivotal scene fell flat on its face. Pure garbage.

I'm not even finished with the first game of the collection and I see all those bugs and problems that completely destroys the actual experience Konami so wants to show everyone in the new digital age. Pathetic. I hope Konami fixes all of that. It's downright embarrassing for a such a major company.

But everyone knows they won't address this or try to fix it or even apologize.

I want to see the Konami execs bowing for an extended period of time at their next press conference as a display of contrition. Actually, fuck that. They should get down on their fucking knees and beg for forgiveness.

It's one thing to simply release a bad game, but it's far worse to essentially tarnish what little sheen was left on the memory of these classic pinnacles of the genre.

DO NOT BUY THIS GAME, people! Konami needs to get the message loud and clear.

I had zero faith that there would ever be another great Silent Hill game, but Konami can't even handle a port of their best games correctly. My biggest hope is that Sony or Microsoft buys Konami and hands the Silent Hill IP off to a competent developer like Quantic Dream or Naughty Dog.

so even with both consoles it's best to just dig up a ps2 copy if I want to enjoy these for the first time?

It just makes me mad that they knew this game was broken and were working on a update before it came out yet they still released it.

It should have been delayed again.

Vatra games...why do you suck so bad?

Vatra did not develop Silent Hill HD.

Hijinx Studios did.

Since I'm getting this in a couple of days, and since this will be my first experience with the franchise, can someone bring me up to speed with what exactly is wrong with this collection?

SH2:
* Bad framerate in the PS3 version
* Missing fog effects
* Missing sound effects
* A very specific scene has been edited
* Street textures look far too clean

SH3:
* Missing fog effects
* Washed out colours
* Too bright
* Bad framerate in the PS3 version
* No original VAs

I think that should be it

This is the last straw for Silent Hill.

It's one thing to put out mediocre, new games that don't meet the mark. It's another to re-release fucked up versions of the old games with changed scenes, screwed up graphics and sound, and poor performance.

If you can't recreate the experience 100%, don't fucking touch it.

So, congratulations, Tomm Hulett. You managed to do something that only a spectacular failure could accomplish: get people pissed of at Silent Hill 2. Truly an achievement in ineptitude.

I'm not gonna blame Tomm for this. I blame Hijinx Studios, the higher-ups at Konami and whatever paltry QA they had for this port. I'm as angry and sad as everyone else about what's been done to SH 2 and 3, but I'm not gonna direct my anger at Tomm for Hijinx studios not being up to the task of getting 10+ year old PS2 games to run on current hardware.

Hmmm, quite a lot of those sound detrimental to atmosphere, which a horror game needs.
Still, if I interpret your post correctly, they are specific to the PS3 version and not the 360 one, correct?

Does anyone have any screenshots of the credits for the HD collection?

Maybe we can find some of the developers on twitter and get some feedback from them.

The 360 ports are bad ports too, but the framerate is better than in the PS3 version.
