Remaining battery life: 20%
Estimated time remaining: 1 hour
Time since last charge: 4 hours

Haha, and it was near full :p I do get pretty crappy reception here though

It's not doing anything as far as I can tell. There's nothing open, I even tried uninstalling some of the (very few) apps I have on there.

Signal is 4/5 so I wouldn't have thought it was too bad. Tempted to disable 3G as I'm guessing that would probably help.

As for selling it, no, I just want it to work like it should.

Set email to update every hour. Turn off facebook chat if you aren't going to use it. Go to the settings tab, and see what applications run in the background.

EDIT:Scratch the email bit, you've done it one better.

i think all we need to do is take the current ot and add lumia squares. (and some phones, which we can get off of http://www.microsoft.com/windowsphone/en-us/buy/7/default.aspx

Confirmed: Visual Voicemail is working! After going in and setting up the phone, and all the default VM stuff, there is a new "Voicemail" tab in the phone showing voicemails. You can then tap any call in the list to listen to them.

Yesterday no one went through the VM setup yet, so it wasn't active, thus my confusion. But yea, fully working as long as you have the feature on your plan.

great. can you confirm the white lumia? doooo iittt T_T

I'm giving up on trying to send mms. full 4g and it still fails. I don't know why I have so many problems sending mms on WP. same with my focus on att.

OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Now the big question is what happens to a non Lumia 900 that gets VVM enabled??? If this is a possibility I'm calling my corporate rep now.

Edit: Seems like you have to be on 8107 or higher. Damn you AT&T.

Just use MagikMail for Visual Voicemail. Been using it for a year and a half now, and will continue to until AT&T finally flips the switch. MagikMail can be spotty with the tile notifications, but you can set it to text/email you as well when there's a voicemail.

Yea sorry, WP as a whole is pretty foreign to me, so I don't know the answer to that one.

Also, I've been digging, and I can't seem to get any definite confirmation on launch colors. It seems Black and Cyan are certain, but anytime White is mentioned, it isn't with regards to launch stuff. I'll keep looking.

What themes Accent Colors are available?
Under "Settings > System" Are there any options below feedback? That's were manufactures can place there own custom stuff. For example my Titan has "Attentive phone", "camera modes" and "sound enhancer"

Where did you get the info about 8107 or higher? I have that firmware loaded up, I'd be willing to try getting it on here if there is a method online.

Does anyone here use GroupMe?

I have a group pinned to my start screen and when I click it and go in to type a message, the typing is a bit laggy.

There's like a second delay from me pressing a key on the keyboard, for it to show up on the screen.

Seems to only happen in this app, as messages/ie/facebook is fine. O__o

The only new Accent color is "Nokia Blue", which is just a darker, sort-of royal blue. All the others are just standard WP7 stuff. And the only thing listed down there in the Settings is "SIM Applications", but clicking on it just brings up a prompt that "No SIM Applications are installed" etc etc.

Have you checked out any of the Nokia specific software (e.g. Nokia Drive)?

Hello, experienced WP7 users. I've got four questions for you:
  1. Have you ever felt left out when it comes to certain aps available for other platforms but not for WP7? Do you sometimes experience a disadvantage in this area? How common of a problem is this?

  2. How customizable is the OS? I mean, I've seen some youtube videos that show you how to mess with the tiles so that they're not in a plain color and the likes, but it looks like you need to root/jailbreak/whatever the right term is. But out of the box the OS seems pretty bare-bones in this regard.

  3. What is the roadmap for the OS? When can we expect WP8? Or will we just get little gradual updates? And how future proof are WP7 phones? Does MS try to make sure that as many WP7 devices can upgrade later on? Or is that not feasible in such a quickly progressing market?

  4. What are the impressions on the Nokia Lumia 800. I've been messing around with it, and purely based on the looks (yeah, I'm shallow like that :)) and initial interaction with it, the device is mighty fine. But I'm not an expert in regards to smart phones. Is the Lumia 800 a competent phone? Or is there an obvious better alternative out there?

Thanks in advance, guys.

1. The WP apps are generally the step children of the bunch, iOS has a much higher quality of first party apps.

2. Customization is limited to your color (which is one of eight or so different preset choices, no color wheel type editing.) and live tiles.

3. Road map is Apollo in Q3/4 and we dont know a whole bunch about it. As far as new hardware goes OEMS are ... Waiting for Apollo.

4. Nokia Lumia 800 is amazing.

What's wrong with WhatsApp? I rely on it pretty much essentially for IMing and I'd rethink moving to WP if it's flawed in some way D:

2 but especially 1 is disappointing. Even though I don't know what I'd miss on WP7 right now, the idea that I will come across amazing apps for Android/iOS that don't have a WP7 equivalent is pretty off putting.

4. Yeah, the Lumia seems like a very competent phone in the current market.

I might impulse buy one anyway, but my gut keeps telling me that I better wait and see how healthy the WP7 market(share) -and thus the app library- becomes in the following months/years, before making the jump to that platform.

Hah, I'm in the same boat, but that UI and the Lumia's design is just too attractive :(

I'm not really sure how 1 is relevant, seeing that Android suffers a bit from the same issue, with apps on both platforms being a bit lacking on Android.

I assume the Android app library is multiple times that of WP7, with iOS obviously having the biggest library of all.

I remember skimming through a magazine that listed a whole bunch of "must have" apps. All of them were on iOS, the majority of them were on Android, and occasionally you saw the WP7 and Blackberry icon next to an app, but that was rather rare.

Granted, that magazine is from about 6 months ago, but the market position of the OS'es hasn't really changed since then, so I assume it's stil iOS > Android >>>> WP7/Blackberry in terms of library strength.

Not counting games, I don't feel like I missing out on much with regards to apps. Even when I used my iTouch a lot I just didn't care much about apps.

Apps are overrated, some of them are great, but most of them you never use again.

For me, I'm not missing any apps I actually used after moving to WP7, everything I want is there.

I think if you only have access to the Windows Phone marketplace, there might come a time when you'll feel left out. For example my brother who is in that position today asked me "Is Draw Something coming out for WP7, everyone is playing it?". There are however plenty of games to keep you busy, and I have an app for most of my needs (RSS Feeds, Podcasts, eBooks etc). I have an iPad though so I never feel like I'm missing out. For me, WP7 is without a doubt my favourite phone OS. But I think I would be missing out if I didn't have access to another mobile ecosystem be it via tablet, MP3 player or whatever.

Well, the Angry Birds Space situation doesn't instill much confidence though :/ (I know they've said it will come out later, but still)

It just feels slow and it doesn't appear as an icon on the lock screen which means I had to pin it as close to the top of the phone as possible in cases where I might have left my phone on my desk or something. I'm not sure how it performs on iOS and Android however. I've only used it on BlackBerry and Windows Phone and both have much better messaging options (BBM and MSN/FB). I really only use WhatsApp to communicate with people outside Canada.

I guess I should qualify my opinion by stating I don't really care or care for mobile games. So yeah, I could see how that would be a big concern with WP7.

BUT APOLLO WILL FIX ALL

  1. 1. As a pretty selective user of high quality iOS apps, the WP Marketplace is very lacking. I'm not talking about games, because I rarely ever play games on my iOS devices. There's no good Tweetbot, Reeder, Instapaper, or Dropbox equivalent. The WP equivalent of Facebook, Skype, and Youtube isn't as good. Recently, I've been using Readability and March Madness Live on iOS--there was no release on WP. I'm very specific about the apps I choose to use though, so these criticisms might not apply to you.
    2. Not very, though it's not really a big deal for me.
    3. Major new releases every year. Future proof is a crap shoot though, since Microsoft doesn't control updates.

Unfortunately there are deeper functionality problems than Firestorm has mentioned. It isn't the app itself however. A couple of IM apps have problems with displaying notifications of new IMs and when they do, you have to wait a while before it actually shows in your conversation; it is messed up. As other apps suffer from similar problems, it suggests a bug in the OS and one that has yet to be acknowledged yet unfortunately. But if WhatsApp is a vital tool for you then you should reconsider getting a WP7 handset.

This is a huge problem for me and the reason I'm already looking for another phone, despite only owning the HTC Titan for three months. I love the OS and it does pretty much what I want it to do and it does it smoothly, but the lack of apps is a disadvantage that's hard to overcome. It does to some extend depend on where you live, because Microsoft support is good in some areas. Not so much in Denmark, unfourtunately. Though we've finally been given access to the marketplace - we had to wait for a while - the apps are just not there. Specifically apps developed locally, but even well known apps like Kindle are still not available on Windows Phone here, despite being available for iOS and Android(for a very long time I might add).

So if you live in a non-english region and like apps, I would definitely take a closer look at what's actually released where you live to determine if it fits your needs.

The apps/games situation should improve big time after Windows 8 comes out, as it appears to be fairly easy to port between W8/WP and W8 will have a massive install base worthy of lots and lots of content.

So basically, #waitforapollo

This, this and this.

I find if you use the back button to open the tombstoned version, OR if you click the toast notification 9/10 the conversation will NOT update until you close the app and re-open it. So very annoying.
