Star Wars Kinect was worked on by 10 teams, 200+ people

Girl got arse pubes.
Why are so many people down on the goofy Star Wars dancing bits? I love Star Wars and I find that stuff hilarious! It's obviously not meant to be taken seriously.

For the same reason people cringe at the Star Wars Holiday Special

Since it will probably sell plenty of copies (and Kinects) its money well spent as far as they're concerned.

They could have spent a fraction of what this costs and gotten a game of similar quality. Nothing about this game is well crafted at all.

Well I think that's what some of us want. After so many years, Star Wars has been made into a mockery when there was a time when Star Wars was an amazing franchise. Not only were the original movies classics, but there was also years of really solid video games being made for it. Games like Tie Fighter, Jedi Knight, Rebel Squadron, Battlefront. The only other Star Wars games we've gotten this entire generation are The Force Unleashed ones, and while the first game was ok...it was far from perfect, and the second one was a rush job, and a unneeded sequel.....what the fuck happened to the video games of Star Wars where we reached this point??

Good point. I figure they just don't give a shit any more.
It's a crime we haven't had a HD Jedi Knight game on any platform. They could have used some of that cool Force Unleashed tech and everything. I remembed reading about TFU when the very first details were out and I was so hyped thinking it'd be like a crazy Jedi Knight but instead it was just a character action game with lightsabers. Not horrible but not want I wanted.

I've given up on seeing a good Star Wars game again now though. Not tried TOR but from what I've seen it isn't really want I'd want in an MMO. At least this (well, the dancing parts) entertain me when I watch them.

It's the developer giving players what works and what's sold, instead of what they're imagining from the franchise.

A bit like a hypothetical Star Wars Wii title with a lot of bowling.

Sometimes I hate the internet so much negativity especially here on gaf. Sometimes standards are way to high and mountains are constantly made out of mole hills. But OMG I just watched the dancing Han Solo and now I truly believe I"m ready to kill myself.

The 10 studios/200 people makes sense for a mini game collection type thing. It was probably done in a short amount of time too. They also may be counting "working on it" as teams just handing over content from other games, no reason to make another set of laser sounds.

APRIL FOOLS :D

I honestly don't really believe it. I can't comprehend it being true.

Not that hard to believe at all, 200 people would average out to around 20 people per team. When you factor in outsourcing to CGI companies, Skywalker sound, voice over work, art asset creation, producers, executive producers, marketing, whatever, it quickly adds up. When you're working on a large property like Star Wars, there's bound to be a lot of parties involved.

It all comes down to how well these parties are managed. In this case the game looks like it was designed by comity ....

I never got the internets (and the world at large) fascination with star wars. Outside side of some amazing technical feats in the original trilogy (at least for the time) I always found the franchise to be pretty shit.

But this

and this

Is an insult as a gamer, a star wars fan, fuck it, anyone with common scene and a pulse.

This game is an abomination and every sale is the electronic equivalent or strangling a newborn kitten.

200 people? what were they all junkies?

THE FUUUUUUUUUUUUCK!

The better question is why Sony or Nintendo did not approach Star Wars like MS did.

That's what I don't get. Either of those would be perfect options, and they choose to make this game for the Kinect.

And all anybody has ever asked for since the inception of the Wii is a fucking lightsaber game. It might not have been feasible in the beginning, but with MotionPlus and Move there's just no excuse.

Because Microsoft said "hey, do you want all this MONEY". Look at their Kinect titles, they've gone after things people know. Disneyland, hole in the wall... Disney/Pixar.

I know, that's why I responded to it and said "the way MS did". A real lightsaber game would be really good on teh Move I guess, but if Sony does not care then don't blame the wrong side.

The wrong side?
We all blame Lucas Arts for this abomination.
It's an affront to human decency.

Holy crap, I knew this game would be bad but that is down right appalling. I'm not a fan of Star Wars but I cannot believe they have done this to the franchise.

Lucas is a damn money whore.

Isn't Lucas getting "only" money out of merchandise?

Not sure really, I think that Lucas has to at least approve most stuff. He approved the Star Wars Family Guy episodes and what not. I'd imagine with there being such a cross promotion with this he must get something.

Because the Wii lightsaber game that would sell is not the one you want. A core lightsaber combat game with deep and involving mechanics that requires some degree of technical skill is not going to sell to families, and if it is approachable enough for people to pick it up, it will be trashed by people on the internet for being dumbed down for casuals.

Trying to satisfy the hardcore seems unlikely to succeed, might as well go for the relatively surefire money from making a family-oriented title.

As much as it pains me to say this, I have to agree with derFeef on this one.

If I recall correctly, Microsoft approached LucasArts with the proposal of doing a Star Wars game for Project Natal (now Kinect). They've gone through a lot of trouble to get popular, well-known childrens' properties adapted to Kinect--Disneyland, Sesame Street, Nickelodeon, Pixar, and so on. If third-parties won't make the games, then Microsoft takes on the task themselves.

Sony has done some excellent work with developing great original games for Move. The problem from a marketing perspective is that they don't have any recognizable properties attached to them.

Kids don't want to play games with strange names like "Start the Party", "TV Superstars", "PlayStation Move Heroes", or "Medieval Moves: Deadmund's Quest". They want to play games with Mickey Mouse and SpongeBob SquarePants and the characters that they already know and love.

This spring, when parents go to the store to shop for a motion-controlled game for "family fun time", are they going to gravitate toward a game named "Sorcery", or a game named "Star Wars Kinect" (note the bold)?

This has nothing at all to do with game quality, just the pure marketability and brand name recognition. It probably wouldn't hurt Sony if they were to take a page from Microsoft's book, adapt one or more of their existing Move game engines, and "tack on" a popular license to produce a new and more marketable game.

I hate when people act high and mighty but fuck it. DO NOT BUY this shit masked as a game are you crazy? I mean if you can some how manage to have fun then that's great. But I don't know how anyone could gain any kind of entertainment out of this. Did they even fix the horrid lag issues btw?

I would rather go through a divorce settlement vs playing this. Even if I lost my best dog timmy.

This is funny until you realise of how many good games can be done with 200 people working during nearly 3 years.

It's no strange that the MS first party non-kinect lineup is so small, in the last two years. They have all the non-closed studios doing that kind of stuff.

200 people approved THIS ?

Oh jeez. That's so bad, it goes beyond "haha, its so bad its cool/funny/lighthearted/chilloutwouldya" bad, to plain old no frills what-you-see-is-what-you-get cannot-be-interpreted-any-other-way bad.

Bad. Not funny bad, or so-bad-its-good bad. Bad.
