The latest anime from Shinichiro Watanabe (Cowboy Bebop, Samurai Champloo) is making its way to Crunchyroll's spring lineup. Kids on the Slope (Sakamichi no Apollon) will stream on Thursdays, starting April 12 at 9:30 am PDT.

Kids on the Slope will be available in the United States, Canada, United Kingdom, Ireland, South Africa, Australia, and New Zealand.

Based on the manga by Yuki Kodama, Kids on the Slope features music by Yoko Kanno, and animation production by Mappa and Tezuka Productions.

Story:
In the summer of 1966 Kaoru Nishimi moved by himself from Yokosuka to Kyushu to live with relatives. Until then, Kaoru was an honor roll student who tended to keep to himself, but meeting notorious bad boy Sentaro Kawabuchi would change all of that. Through his devil-may-care classmate, Kaoru learns the attractions of jazz and finds the first person he can call a “friend”. He also discovers how much fun it is to play music with a pal. Set against the backdrop of a seaside town with a scent of American culture, this series is a drama about young people coming into their own, crossing each other's paths, and finding friendship, love, and music!

Note: This is not the OT for the show, I'll be putting that up on the day the show starts airing. This is a news thread to keep people informed that it will be simulcast in English for the western audience.

Wish Hulu was doing it instead. They're generally better about updating on time, and my tv has an app for that.

Good to hear that it'll be available legally. Can you turn Crunchyroll's subs off or are they forced on?

Dude, yes! I was seriously worried that I would have no way of watching this show, certainly not any time soon. This just made my day.

Crunchyroll doesn't ask me to sit through a bunch of ads during the show even if I'm a paying customer, and their subtitles are actually legible in full-screen mode on my PC. Hulu has a great lineup but a pretty terrible user experience!

I'm glad we finally reached the point where people stopped complaining about how Crunchyroll doesn't leave enough random words untranslated at least.

Probably because fans of Bebop don't overlap as heavily with general anime fans as much as most anime. There's plenty of "outsiders" interested in this too- like me. :p

I'm far removed from the scene but interested in the show. What is crunchyroll? I went to the site and it looks like a news site.. do you need to pay to watch these shows "on their schedule?"

You subscribe to watch the shows on time with no ads and in HD

If you don't then you gotta wait a week to watch the show in 360p with ads

Which, that isn't even that bad, really. I think the ads for Puella Magi Madoka Magica have only been at the very start and very end, so it's very unobtrusive compared to something like Hulu.

At least, my experience with them have been pretty nice. I only have watched a few things on the site, but yeah. I don't mind it.

Crunchyroll is only like 5 bucks a month. I think it's pretty worth it if you watch basically anything and aren't a thief.

Streaming site like Hulu, but mostly for anime (and J- and K-dramas too, I think). Used to be illegal, smartened up, went legit, and made licensing deals with JP anime distributors.

You can watch them 1 week ahead of time if you pay the fee for a premium membership, which is something like $6 a month iirc, but otherwise it's free with the delay.

Cool, thanks fellas! Price seems pretty reasonable.

So if I don't want to pay I can watch one week later on the 19th? Is it streamed only one time or can I watch it whenever on that day?

You can watch whenever you want and as many times as you want when the episode becomes available a week later to free users.

I think I'll give this a shot. I'm not much of an anime guy, but Watanabe and Kanno is a hell of a hard thing to resist.

Ok thanks. I haven't watched any new series in years but this has me hyped. I'm glad the industry has progressed to let people watch online legitimately. Now if only US tv shows could get with the times.

So I have heard that crunchyrolls subs are pretty bad, can anyone confirm that?
I feel they're hit or miss. It's very clear that each of their translators use different philosophies when translating (for example, some are heavy on the use honorifics and some aren't). But I think they're substantial in general.
